We used to make our jams and jellies and always used paraffin to seal the jars. Mom and I were talking about that last week while junkin, it's truly a lost art.
My Mother always use paraffin wax to seal her jams and jellies, she had everyone with babies save Gerber jars for her and those were her jelly jars. We picked wild fruits from local fields and woods, too. It was a real budget operation. Delicious results, though.
@@nanvolentine9110 wild strawberry jam oh yum ! Picking those little buggers - the best ones were in long grass or hay.- but oh so delicious! We used baby jars and paraffin also,! A lot of the old practices are now condemned by the health departments - but are still done in other countries with no problem!
Michael you are so humble and it’s such a pleasure to watch and enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing your passion and kindness at a time where we desperately need it. Good feels.
I have never been the first viewer before :). Good morning Michael. That autograph book is wonderful. My Mom was one of 5 girls belonging to a single Mom. When they were old enough she sent them to work in the coat room of a classy hotel back in Springfield Ohio. She also gave them an autograph book. (Her hope was they would meet a successful man to marry.....sad but true). Anyway the book had Frank Sinatra, Lucille Ball, Bob Hope among others. I am not sure who in the family has it now but I sure wish I did.
I'm seeing a lot more people making traditional/homemade dishes and preserves. I've been thinking of making homemade pickles, in a big crock, that I inherited. Gotta wait till next planting season, to grow pickling cucumbers, tho. My sister in law has chickens and wants to try making 100 year eggs. The old erasers brought back memories. I can still smell them in their big plastic display bucket. There was a little corner market that sold them. The owner hired my sister and I, as a grocery delivery girls. (Aged 9 at the time/my sister was 10). We would get a call to come pick up and deliver bags of groceries, to a lot of the old widows, in these wonderful old apartment buildings. (Some buildings still had functioning dumb waiters, to save you the struggle of carrying 2 full bags up 5 flights of stairs). I worked for tips. These old gals were from a different era and some still wore the long black victorian mourning dresses. Some were very sweet, some were pretty salty, but they all had stories to tell and were very frugal. They would get out their little black snap purses to give me a quarter or, if I was lucky, two quarters. On sundays, they sat together in the back pews and sang in their trembling vibrato. Sometimes, they would hand out those round pink mint candies, that taste like pepto bismal.
The snowberry on green is my most favorite Roseville-the decoration is so simple that is pushes it up the beautiful list. So comfortable for you to be back home too. 3rd coffee & sit down worthy. Elizabeth
I love how gentle you are with the vintage and antique epherma and glass. there's a couple u tubers I love but sometimes cringe when I watch bcuz of how rough they are. I know the mic picks up noise but it's so obvious how gentle and careful you are so thank you. it's always a pleasure
You are the first video I watch in the morning before I get ready for work. Yor have inspired me to start reselling some of my collections in an antique mall. Hello from Sacramento, Ca.
Michael, Thank you so much for all you do! You bring so much happiness with every video you post! So glad you show things above resellers budget because you still give us the knowledge ❤️
Postcards!!!!! I could pick through them forever!!! And I especially love the ones that have writing on them. The post office used to pick up and deliver mail TWICE a day! So, a note could be sent across town quickly. Some of the stories written on them are hilarious and a few are so sad. I got some really cute postcards from the 1900’s and never stopped to read them. I sat down at my kitchen table to read them and sobbed. One was a postcard sent to a friend that her baby had died. Infant mortality was a real thing and tragic.
Oh, the glass with the Universal Monsters. Amazing display! Thank you for the wonderful video. You’re such a pleasure to watch and listen to. Prays for success in all your sales and endeavors.
Rollermills is my favorite antique shop in Lewisburg. Wish I could get there more often. My favorite booth is all the glass. The tall pink vase would come home with me in a heartbeat. Love your videos!
The erasers! Memories are such a motivator. Your voice is so soothing...or cracking me up! The laugh! The salt and pepper shakers...where were the sales? In the housekeeping book you bought on the second page of the table of contents there was a chapter on the Discoveries of Children...grabbed my attention. Always a pleasure spending time with you. 💜💜
Oh. Michael - I adored that blue Fenton hand vase - living near the Fenton factory and priding myself on knowledge of all things Fenton, I had never seen it - sure wish you had got it. - you could very easily have a market for those things - ME!
Seelng the cookbook made me think about my mom and grandmother. I had old cookbook in Maryland at my daughter house. I just hope they are still at my daughter house when I g fr a visit
29:12 hey I still have the mold from when my son got braces. You telling me they could be big bucks in about a hundred years? 😂 just kidding with you! I thoroughly enjoy your videos!!
Amazing LE Smith pink opalescent moon and stars. I have the same one along with other various glass LE Smith pink moon and star pieces. I bought mine for dirt cheap (10 bucks or less). People tend to pass on the pink. Personally I love antique and vintage pink glass. I love decorating with it in the spring.
Wow I'm listening with headphones on, never quite realized how soothing your voice is,,u could do NPR radio 📻 💖,,love everything, always that roseville! Wow 👏
Hey Michael. Keep an eye out for miniature things for me. I sent you a comment not too long ago about it. Not really a dollhouse fan. More unusual things like the vintage wood matchbox puzzle I bought from Misty or the very very tiny vintage celluloid salt and pepper shakers also bought from her. Just so you know. Great video. Thank you. 😊
That Fenton hand vase is EVERYTHING. That stunning Roseville piece was 20% off the $70, so a couple chips could have been forgiven with 20% off, I think you would have made your $$ on it for sure. I love it! Awesome video Michael! ♥♥♥
I forgot all about those little squishy eraser things!! It was a delight to see them again. Loved how you described how they feel !! Had a ball shopping with you !! Never fails that I am sitting on my couch chuckling away at your great sense of humor 😄🤩😛
Hi Michael, I loved everything you picked up today. You, Dagney, Jocelyn, Misty, George and Jeffrey are entertaining me through a very dark season in my life. I have a rare kidney disease that is very painful and has me tied to my bed for most of the day. I also buried my Dad on Memorial Day and held the hand of my best friend when she passed away last January. My heart hurts from missing them so much. It’s nice to watch your videos and see such beautiful things. Thanks for keeping me company. That bag of postage stamps was huge. Good for you! It’s not easy to break out of our comfort zones and try something new. I’m sure you will triple your money on them. Break them up into one pound lots and they will sell quickly. Best of luck with your reselling them 😊
Illnes is so hard to endure. I'm happy that you are getting some enjoyment from these wonderful thrifters. Also I'd like to suggest Peggy and Norm from Crazy for Retro. And Scott from the Old Curiosity Shop.
I grew up learning how to make jelly and jam from grapes in our own backyard - with the wax on top. Brings back lots of memories. And I LOVE the Roseville! I would have found a place for it!
Michael, my favorite thing you bought was the dental impression. I think if you break the postage stamps into lots people will definitely buy them for Christmas gifts.
Waw... whats that dental appliance story Michael? I love this video so inspiring, the post card with embellishments, the shoo shoo scarecrow and several things that inspire me to create But my fav thing is that 69 ellie smith, gosh I love how it shift colors when you play with it. Gonna re-watch this video for sure Thank you Michael
I really enjoy your videos, the blue hand vase was great I've never seen it before. The wooden box was wonderful too, that's something I would have picked up I think we both have very good taste.😊
Wow the Roseville pottery was a great beginning price PLUS and discont on top of that, im in oklahoma and the prices here for Roseville it double the price if not more at all of my antique stores its crazy how prices are differently priced all across the United States.
Even if you divided those stamps up into small craft lots, I think you'll do well. I thought for a minute that the $12 was for BOTH pinecone elves and I was thinking, "GET IT, MICHAEL!"
So much fun watching your videos. Love the Roseville. I have a few pieces and hope to keep my small shelf displayed with Roseville throughout the year using different colors and patterns. The shelf only holds 2-5 pieces so it’s doable in the future! Thanks again.
Ok Michael WHY aren’t you in Radio, Voice Over, TV Commercials, that voice is EVERYTHING!!!
I'm disabled and semi housebound. Your videos help me feel like I'm out looking at all. These beautiful things. I truly enjoy it. Thank you. 😊
That Jaru piece looks like C3PO from Star Wars.
The gold Jaru looks like a sexy cp30 ...I can't unsee it , lol
Love very old recipe books!
Love,love,loved the pink opalescent piece.

@@starrlacey2505 Yeah, we're still living, so I don't see a problem with it.
My mother used it too. She had many Mason jars with the seal rings and caps but jam went into smaller, repurposed jars with a wax seal.
Michael you are so humble and it’s such a pleasure to watch and enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing your passion and kindness at a time where we desperately need it. Good feels.
