This advice is actually fantastic for a new college student. I graduated high school early and went straight into engineering and realized I hated it, wasted a year and now I’m on a business pathway. Loving it. Make sure you really think it over before you choose what to do in college. It’s expensive, and even more expensive to start over !!
I went into college immediately as well and I regret not taking a year to myself. Now I’m finished but still feel too young and not sure exactly what I want to be. The advice is good, a gap year is useful.
I held off for a few years and im so glad i did. I had no idea what i wanted to do but now im going to school to become a stockbroker after meeting a few people who taught me some insane technical analysis.
honestly it'd have been better for me to have worked some entry level job for a year, earn a bit of savings and pay my parents some amount of rent/my own expenses and figure out what I wanted to do with my life in the meantime, but now I basically have a college degree that's been wasted because it's no longer something I'm interested in. So I'm now on my way to complete a professional degree in a field that I've seriously looked into.
Baus is one of the only streamers/youtubers that I give what i call "free marketing", the man is so chill and down to earth that is difficult not liking him and laugh with and at him, he's funny guy.
That's exactly what I did. After graduating senior high everyone's going into college but I'm having doubt because I didn't like our education system here(philippines, negros island) and didn't like the idea of spending 4 whole years, 8 hours a day 5 to 6 days in school. So I told my parents that I would like to stop for a year and plan out my life who and what I want to be and it went great. I had come into conclusion to just self study since I have internet connection and good to high quality study materials are available in internet plus I get to control my time and as of now I'm currently taking Google Data Analytics and it's going good considering I'm a complete newbie regarding Data analytics.

Mister Baus, any decent hotel in South Korea has a desk with a PC that has games such as League of Legends preinstalled. They have a TV channel over there that shows reruns of old competitive games. In the worst case you have to make a request to have a desk with League available in your room when making the hotel reservation. What will be harder than streaming League from the hotel will be getting a Korean League account, since you need a Korean social security number to open the account, a temporary visa will not let you do this. So either you need to talk to Riot or ask a friend that doesn't play League to make one for you (at least that's what it was like when I was in Korea 5 years ago).
Yeah that is true. I live in the Philippines which is a 3rd world country and a place wherein MAJORITY of the time you won’t make it without college education. I also regret going straight to college. I ended up wasting 5 years in my course of Medical Technology as my premed course in pursuit of trying to be a doctor, specifically a psychiatrist. I only realized after a while that what I wanted to be was a Clinical Psychologist, not a psychiatrist (Yes there is a major difference between them). Looking back taking 1 year off would have been great to sort things out, and I wouldn’t have had to waste 5 years. I understand not everyone can take a 1 year break due to various factors like your family financial status or maybe the nature of the country u live in, BUT IF U CAN THEN I HIGHLY RECOMMEND U DO. On a good note, I am now applying for a masters in clinical psychology. Thankfully my parents were nice enough to let me pursue it. They just told me to finish my premed and get the lisence as a backup in case anything happens while I am taking my masters
But remember: You can be too smart for college. Nowadays universities are a complete disaster. Employers are realizing how worthless degrees really are, so you don't need that shitty piece of paper anymore anyways.
Man i like this guy mentality. You did well my friend. I was 100% sure but I've seen people who weren't, they had bad time, very ad Time. Talking from engineering prospective, this is root u cam take if you really WANT, or u are doomed.
Honestly, I went into college straight after high school and am currently in the middle of realizing that what I want to do after graduation is not what I’m taking classes for so I think baus’s advice is really good - also I’ve found that just because you’re in college, it doesn’t actually make you smarter you just learn to sound smarter lmaoo
Whenever i (i'm belgian) introduce myself to people and explain them that i dropped out of school at 16 they are usually baffled, in their minds the longer you go to school the smarter you get, but i did not stop getting smarter even without educational system.
You do get smarter but you also get humbler. College comes with a healthy dose of imposter syndrome that never leaves because you meet so many smarter people that you were never exposed to in high school. You ARE smarter, you just have less of a ego about your own intelligence than you did before it so you underestimate what you got out of it. Very common situation
advice at the beginning stuck hard. went straight into medicine after HS and feels like I dug myself in a massive hole I ain’t gonna crawl out of if ur in the USA you have to do 4 years of bachelors before going to med school, but in my country u go balls deep into medicine right off the bat. one hell of a difficulty jump I’ll tell ya, one year your chilling in HS and the next your buried under a fuck load of info u gotta take in for exams by the next month. and I can’t exactly quit my major either, doing that is essentially social and economic suicide. I’m in limbo I mean wpgg solo bolo poggers!!
Where I come from I could just say fuck it and take years off (you dont need to take out loans or something here), but I felt that (and my parents also told me) if I would have taken a year off, I would've lost the "studying" vibe. That like, doing nothing for a year would just ruin your motivation or ability to study (I feel that would have been true for me). So at the very least, if I were going to take a gap year (was doubting going into medicine), I would have had to get a job in the meanwhile. Instead, I went into medicine anyway and I think it was a good decision for me. I'm still not 100% sure if this is what I want to do with my life, but it's the most fitting for me so far. It's taught me to take care of myself (undiagnosed ADHD, woo!) and to grow socially (used to be more of a loner). So, for me personally, I think I really needed university/college to grow into an adult.
I asked mine for 1 year to figure things out, and the compromise was I have to go to university but in free time I can try and succeed at video games. And ofc it didnt work, even that free time, with 4 hours a day was too much video games, which then they made me take pills cause Im sick apearently, so that pills can help me feel happy without video games. But then when I studied like 8 hours a day for 5 days in a row, and passed 3/6 tests, which ended up ammounting to 1 exam and part of second exam. Then it was my fault for not studying hard enough. Then I came to a conclusion that studying wont make them happy either, and I dont wanna live anymore, I inted this life so much, let them end ff pls, go next.
I went into economics university immediately after school because of pressure from my parents and my country (we have obligatory 1 year army service for men unless you're a student). And I regretted it super hard. Went into depression and dropped it. Two years I just thought about what I want to do in life and went in a culinary college and I'm happy for first time in my life
I went to university just as I turned 18. I personally did not regret my decision because I've known for over a decade that I wanted to do aerospace engineering, but I'm going to give your advice to my sister who is unsure whether she wants to study medicine or art. Also, having a year off would've been a nice break ngl.
that's how I ended in the Army, studying to become an Officer. Now I'm just 6 years from becoming 2nd Lieutenant haha. I don't regret it at all, love this Career
Your opinion is really good and I 100% agree, I’m doing an exchange year rn right after high school and thx to this year, I found out the studies I wanna do when I come back in my home country, but what if I would’ve jumped immediately in something else
I've seen a lot of these comments about regretting not taking a year straight after hs. I went straight to university here in sweden and its probably the best decision I have ever done. I love it here. Courses are great, fellow students are amazing and the student life is incredible. I don't know what I would do with myself if I didn't go straight to uni. Just wanted to say in case anyone is doubting going to uni straight after highschool.
It really just depends on your situation. If youre sure going to uni is what you wanna do, do it. If you have doubts, especially if its very costly for you and your family for you to go, itd probably better to take a year to work things out, maybe save up some more money, etc.
I have strick parents even tho I am not studying because of them and good at it. If your parents are strict don't do what they want you to. If you make a bad choice you'll be there for yourself it'll be your fault and if you make a mistake and you were doing what your parents told you to you'll just hate them for the rest of life depending on your fuckup scale
I got pressured into "making something usefull with my life" aka study something does't matter what. Yeah I had to stop one semester away from bachelor because I got severe depression and isolated myself. Three years wasted for nothing. Fucking hate myself for letting others rule my life. To the young people: Don't let anybody tell you what is right for you, they just envy you for all the choices you can make and they have none.
I didn't have that luxury of waiting before going to college cause of parental pressure, but I goddamn wish I did. Despite having finished my major, I felt and still feel miserable.
My dad always gave similar advice about college, but out of my 5 brothers the only one who actually listened was the youngest. I started working for his business and at some point admitted that he was right I should have waited, and asked how that made him feel to have one of his kids finally admit he was right. He said "I get no pleasure from watching my kids suffer when they could have succeeded." He also really did talk like that.
Depends on your country but I think going to Uni at 18 is still a good option. Even if you don’t know 100% your goals, it’s a good environment and a halfway house to transition to being an independent adult.
"Higher education" is the type of gamble that drives a lot of good, smart people mad, broke, or down a dangerous path before they so much as find decent work. Even if you can get it paid for, it often becomes a near-pointless endeavor if you dont find something that you enjoy and are skilled at, and the grind towards the paper at the end takes its toll in other ways. I dont think it's a good gamble for most people, especially those without a clear, well established path to work, or without the money to maintain it. Of course theres reasons to consider it, but it's all of the joy of the meatgrinder in hs multiplied by constant stress- that definitely doesnt go away in low or high pressure schools.
Baus, i just got to korea 2 weeks ago! They have a mandatory 7 day quarantine which you can do from government, or you can use private services (i used enkor and it was really good and they bring you food). You need a covid test to get in, another covid test day 1 of quarantine, and another one on day 6.

Yeah I had to stop one semester away from bachelor because I got severe depression and isolated myself. Three years wasted for nothing. Fucking hate myself for letting others rule my life. To the young people: Don't let anybody tell you what is right for you, they just envy you for all the choices you can make and they have none.
Sadly in my country if you finish highschool and don't enter college inmediately you're going to get drafted for the military, unles you have children
"Babussy" - Baus 2022
I didn't have that luxury of waiting before going to college cause of parental pressure, but I goddamn wish I did. Despite having finished my major, I felt and still feel miserable.
My man ignored the healing reduction against the cancer champ
10:57 that was actually a good yoke in the dono
actually a good advice.
Babus sweetest boy 🥺
1 year break after high school before college is called gap year. I had it on my english lessons recently bruh
I was laughing hard when Baus thought Illaoi is ,,dick esay" matchup

Does anyone know the song that plays in the background of his videos? "Something something burning something"
This is the correct take on college. Do not go right away unless you have a goal
