    Just did this to my Shishigashira, kept a lot of the longer new main shoots but there was a ton of the little sucker shoots flying out everywhere, cleaned all of that up.

      Sadly, I had a few messy cuts, it was hard to get a clean cut with some of the angles... hopefully thats ok...

      Yes, that is a very dense growing tree so don’t worry if you feel you had a couple of messy cuts. More important to open it up and let the air flow. Every tree you prune will build your confidence.

      @@maplesandmusic I feel like Shishigashira is the toughest tree I’ve ever had to prune. It’s so dense and the shoots are just flying out in every direction. My Osakazuki was easy and so are my little Mikawas. But Shishigashira is such an amazing tree, I could never be without one.

    How old is the plant in the video? How fast does it grow?

      That is an acer palmatum "pixie"
      It is over 40 years old. It is a very slow growing variety in general. Container growing reduces the growth rate even more
