  • The first account of the life of Jesus of Nazareth very probably came from the pen of Mark, who appears to have recorded the memoirs of the Apostle Peter. His fast-paced narrative presents Jesus as a man of action and compassion. Mark highlights the authority of Christ, and the crisis provoked as Jesus challenged the status quo of established religion in Jerusalem, setting in motions events that would inevitably to the arrest, trial, and execution of Jesus in Jerusalem. Mark probably wrote his gospel during the early days of Nero's attack on Christians, and he therefore not only intends to give an account of the most remarkable life in human history, but also to encourage the people of God whenever they face times of trial and persecution.

    I took my own advice and stopped skipping videos I felt "I already get the idea" or "I already know what the book is about."...and WOW! This is WAY MORE than just an "intro"..I had some questions about the original source of the work itself...I got that answered and immensely more. MUST WATCH. Bruce is my scripture and history canon. How do you do it? ...the world is missing out.

    kinda stated a few days a go mark was the son of Matthew I realised I watched this video and my brain must've scrambled the moment you mentioned Peter stating he was his son with the previous introduction to the gospels and Matthew. I hate getting things wrong but it's not an easy thing to regurgitate. God bless thanks for the info

    The 4 symbols for the gospels (man, lion, ox or bull, eagle) also show up in Rev. 4 and Ezek. 10:14 (modified) as well. Astrologers/astronomers (and perhaps ancient peoples) immediately recognize these as symbols for the 4 fixed signs of the zodiac. They appear to be linked to celestials beings, like for example cherubim, engaging in praise and worship.

    • @GoreBruce
      @GoreBruce  6 лет назад +1

      You are quite correct. The major signs of the zodiac appear on multiple occasions in biblical texts, especially in the Book of Revelation. The Bible disallows, however, any legitimate worship of such heavenly powers.

    • @patriciabailey6803
      @patriciabailey6803 6 лет назад +2

      I was trying to say the celestial beings seem to lead others in praise of He who is on the throne-not that they should be worshipped. (I probably didn’t communicate that well.)

    These presentations are quite a blessing for me; this one is no exception. Do you believe Mark included the boy fleeing naked story to describe what actually took place in Acts 13:13

    • @GoreBruce
      @GoreBruce  3 года назад

      Yes, I misspoke on the Greek name for John (I had James in my mind at the moment, I believe). I do think the young man of 13:13 is Mark's 'signature' as I mention when we cover that text. Thanks for the feedback.

    Do you have a video about the dating for writings of the new testament? Some hold a view that much of it is either before or after the fall of the temple. Obviously if Paul and Peter were martyred in the persecutions during the 60s then their writings are before, but I'm more interested in the gospels. I think John's gospel and the apocalypse are the only two that seem likely to be after, or maybe all of John's writings.

    • @GoreBruce
      @GoreBruce  9 лет назад

      +Matthew Thomas The question of dating new testament documents, and especially the Gospels, remains fairly controversial. Liberal scholars tend to argue for a later date, conservatives for an earlier date. There is a fair amount of consensus, however, about the date of the writing of Mark's gospel. I don't have much other resources on the Gospels, but do cover the question of dating Paul's letters and also the book of Revelation in my treatment of those New Testament documents.

    According to Claude Tresmontant (5 August 1925 - 16 April 1997) a French philosopher, Hellenist, theologian and Sorbonne professor, the originals of four Gospels were notes written by the disciples in Hebrew during their walk with Christ. Professor Tresmontant documented his research and conclusions in the book “The Hebrew Christ: Language in the Age of the Gospels”. You can read the French version of the book here: books.google.com/books?id=6YICDgAAQBAJ&pg=PT10&dq=claude+tresmontant+christ+hebreu&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjluq-Tif7kAhUph-AKHQU9CCEQ6AEIKDAA#v=onepage&q=claude%20tresmontant%20christ%20hebreu&f=false.

    Bruce, at 22:00 you say John Mark's name of John is from Yacobos. Don't you mean Yochanon? Yacobos or Jacob ended up being translated James, not John.

    I love your teachings but I have to disagree on this one
    Ezekiel 1:10 is the only book in the Old Testament that gives a clue about the four faces of the Gospels
    Matthew: The Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Messiah King, meaning the Jewishness of this Gospel
    Mark: the Ox, a beast of service, YHWH servant. Mark never pauses or rest (straightway, and then, after this). Mark goes straight to the matter, a Gospel of action
    Luke: the Man/ Son of Man. Shows CHRIST’S humanity as was Luke the beloved physician. It is said that when the destruction of Jerusalem in the year 70, Christians escaped the siege of Jerusalem and escaped to a city called Pella, because they paid attention to CHRIST in Luke 21:7-36
    John: The Eagle because of its majesty. The eagle is a majestic animal that that can see from far away, just like John saw the future and only mentions the Kingdom of GOD, not the Kingdom of Heaven
    Much blessings!

      Bruce Gore something else Bruce if it helps...
      I am sure you know that since Matthew was a customs official( tax collector) he was required to use shorthand writing skills. The Gospel of Matthew seems to be longer than Mark’s but it’s really not the case, because Matthew explains more than Mark in such events
      Thank you for responding

    Just a thought. Since Eusebius ( the propagator), most scholars without evidence accepted the earthly ministry of Jesus as about 3 years.... those who subscribe to this propaganda will never be able to understand or crack the prophecy of Daniel 9:24-26. (The Church Fathers before Eusebius said it was about one year, and they were correct).... From Baptism of Jesus to Pentecost, it is perfectly 70 weeks. (John 2 Passover; John 5 Pentecost; (John 6:4 is unauthorized insertion); John 7 Sukkot; John 18+ final Passover when Jesus was Crucified. One year. Take Baptism (January/February) plus 40 days (fasting) plus a few days, then Passover (John 2), to next Passover when Jesus died as the Lamb of God, to Pentecost = 70 weeks.
    Daniel 9:27 is still future. A prophet recently said the future Lawless Man (antichrist) will arise from Berlin and will bring peace between Arabs and Jews, but will betray Jews by entering the new Temple (future) as god himself (future).
    Highly respect your teachings and learning tons. Thanks for the lectures.
