CRT scores are so satisfying because they often require so many different factors all coming together for it to work out. BTW, the extra component in the back and S-Video in the front are pretty sweet.
Even though i don't see the appeal of old box tvs, i still enjoy your videos on them. Your really passionate about everything you make videos about and I can appreciate that.
The appeal of CRTs: 1. Zero input lag. Modern flat panels have some degree of input delay due to upscaling and other digital processing. This is especially bad for retro games since many of them depend on fast reflexes. 2. Proper aspect ratio. Games prior to the PS3 era were made for CRTs and thus have 4:3 aspect ratio. 3. Light guns only work on CRTs. You cannot play Duck Hunt on a modern flat panel. 4. Image quality is better for 240p and 480i resolution. Flat panels upscale low res content and the result is often a smeared, pixelated ugly mess. Pixel art is rendered beautifully on glowing phosphors. 5. Excellent black levels. CRT black levels are superior to all LCD panels and are just now being rivaled by OLED, which is still out of reach for many people. 6. Scanlines. For 240p content, scanlines are a natural “effect” of CRTs and add a particular texture to the image that makes it more visually appealing than the no-scanline look of a flat panel. 7. Analog inputs built right in. No need for adapter. Plug and play. Simple. 8. Sound. Get a 27” or larger name brand CRT and you’re guaranteed to have killer built in sound with no need to buy a separate sound system like most flat panels require. The sound of Sony CRTs like the 310 are especially good. 9. Nostalgia/cool factor. Intentionally listed last since many people think this is the only reason hipsters like CRTs. CRTs are definitely cool to some people as old tech can be, but there are practical reasons to own one if you enjoy older games. The nostalgia is just icing on the cake for those of us who are old enough to remember growing up with them in our homes and in arcades. (Oh, and they are still relatively cheap, if not free. Lots of bang for your buck!)
I found a 32 inch at a goodwill for $10. I was like HELL YEAH!!!! It didn't have the remote, but easily found one Amazon or eBay can't remember, but I did find the matching remote.
I love my 310 with matching stand. It's a great set and 27" is the perfect size, not too big and heavy to move around. I got it free just had to drive 90 minutes and later I paid $15 to buy the stand from a guy selling his FV300 with stand. Then a year later a gamer dude in my area was selling his 310 with stand for $100, he accepted $80 which I thought was totally fair. Yeah I went crazy with CRTs 4 years ago but now I think it's time to start getting rid of them and only keep my 20" PVM and the 310.
Is the difference between the 300 and 310 actually noticeable? The main thing i found was that the 310 is the only CRT I've used where you can crank the picture all the way up and the geometry wont suffer. Things stayed focused. Other than that, your 32 inch 300 should have better black levels because the 32 and 36 inch variants of these Trinitrons use a darker tube than the 27 inch versions
driving home i saw this tv outside on a curb for free and something about it made me drive back to pick it up . As much as i struggled to pick it up and make it fit in my car on my own, it was worth when i actually looked it up and seen everything about it

@@theconsolecollector That's a good point! The only reason I say that is because I have a 34XS955 hd Crt. It's. Great but every time I see a menu that's supposed to have straight lines it's glaring obviously it's not.
If you're comfortable, it might not be a bad idea to take the back off of it and remove as much dust from the inside as possible. It would help the longevity of the set.
i consider my 60 inch projector CRT home theater display for only $3 from good will to be the holy grail. i rented a u hail to transport it. they retailed for $3,000 back on 2001 now i got it for 3$ haha
