    I think Stroll has some real potential, but not for F1. Put him in an endurance race like the 24 hours, and I think with time and training he could possibly get some nice results. Main reason I'm not a fan is his personality, the incident in China between him and Ricciardo and how Lance reacted to it is the perfect example. He gave F1 a fair shot, and for that he has my respect just like I respect all other drivers. But I feel like he should could his losses, retire, save face while he still can, and open up a spot for someone like Liam Lawson, Felipe Drugovich, Oliver Bearman etc... I hate to say it, but at this point he's just holding back the team and other talented younger drivers :/

    When people cite his F3 championship, they forget two things:
    1) It may be a 'spec' series, but you're mad if you think all teams/cars are actually equal, and stroll was well financed to get a good seat
    2) Winning F3 even on merit doesn't mean you're good enough to take the step up to the elite level. Some people simply have a ceiling.
    Stroll has his moments, and he's a particularly good starter (although some of that may reflect poor qualifying performance), but one of the traits of an elite performer is consistency, and his only consistency is underperforming. You can't live off a pole and a couple of podiums forever. There's ability in there in fits and bursts, but mad mistakes and collisions more frequently.

Only one of those I thinkd stand out in f1 is palou the rest of them after a couple of years’d struggle to be better than a backmarker and would be driving for such teams. The big difference is, he's actually in a good car and is dragging them down when they could be doing so much better. I am just shocked it's been 8 years!

    It’s what any father in Lawrence’s position would do. Lawrence is a terrifying businessman and people do what he wants. Most people in his position just throw money at the problem until they run out of money. He not only bought a massive entity(a formula one team), he also bought a luxury car company, one of the arguably greatest drivers ever to perform as a stop-gap/mentor for his son… TWICE(vettel/Alonso, Alonso being the GOAT candidate), then courted Honda back into the fold. He’s created the platform to provide his son an opportunity and has done what’s needed for lance’s ability. I personally don’t think lance will ever be champion, no matter what his father provides BUT… in the process, he’s providing incredibly well paying jobs for thousands, drama in F1(which runs on drama), new life into Aston Martin as a car manufacturer who, let’s face it was on their back foot, and the thing that every devoted dad wants for his son- the best opportunity to surpass himself possible. I don’t know of many people who can even drive an F1 car to its limits, let alone faster than Fernando F-ing Alonso(probably not his middle name) on occasion. I hated it at first too, as a fan of F1 for 30+ years. Then I looked at it objectively. When I did that, it was fascinating. This is the stuff movies are made of.

    • @ChristopherWoods
      @ChristopherWoods 4 месяца назад +1

      This is a pretty fair and rational analysis. I know people I simrace with who would likely be faster than Stroll, he just gets a doting (hopefully?) father to enable his attempts at proving he can drive fast. It would be very interesting if a team did similar to what Nissan did and fielded a candidate selected from professional eSports on a rotating basis, if only the superlicence terms could be fulfilled more easily.

    When Lance hot lapped the Aston LMP1 car, he had instant talent behind the wheel, setting an already competitive time. He is objectively a good driver, and like many of the great drivers of history, his skill lies outside the realm of open wheel racing.
    This tenure behind the wheel of the AMR F1 car is serving no purpose other than to *completely dismantle Lance Strolls reputation as a driver of any calibre.* If he genuinely wants a career where every man and his dog isn’t sniggering at him when he walks past then he needs to slap some sense into Lawrence and retire from F1.

      I dont think that a person uncapable of handling 4 wheels and an engine would make it to Formula 1, regardless of money and ownership. He has driving skills, but as you say, those skills are not best used in Formula 1. He should leave F1 and try and make a career in LMP or other categories. Marcus Ericsson is another example. Left a lot to be desired in F1, but smashes Indy Car. Stroll could probably do the same.
