Great video. Diving can be nerve wracking. It is the only place you are actually living in 3 dimensions. OF course it can be wonderful and that is why we do it. I was 16 when Jaws came out, and I lived near where it was filmed! You two are brave and I think with some practice you will love diving. I am sure of it. Good luck!
Wonderful, what a confidence builder. So glad ya'll had such a good instructor. I have heard horror stories that were much different. Sounds like he is a fantastic instructor. Thanks for the video. Dee and Deb
Unfortunately he must be a shit instructor taking open water students to 28m on their first open water dive which has a maximum depth of 12m lol someone needs to report this guy to whatever association he teaches for
I think as you dive more you will find that it is necessary to go hunting/ searching for, sharks, and other strange beasts and that they are hard to find. Although I personally have not had any interaction with crocodiles, documentaries about the Nile ones in Africa and Salties in the ocean, show that they don't have much interest in things in the water, as their hunting technique is pull land animals into the water and drown them. The best part for both of you is that you are in the part of the world some of the best scuba diving ever. Try to dive with Mantas, and Napoleon Wrasse before you head off across the Indian ocean
I'm so glad you're both enjoying the diving. Wrecks are a Mecca for the fish and of course other species, including scoobedooers, and even in poor vis, can be special. @@peterkoller3761 thanks for pointing that out I don't dive or sail. I just enjoy watching their story and seeing the beautiful pictures of the places they visit.
I went on my first night dive a couple days after I saw Jaws. I swam straight to the bottom and hid behind a rock until my tank was used up. When I got on shore I noticed it was still one third full!
It's amazing to see you both develop & acquire new skills which in turn will lead to better experiences, fair play to you both for overcoming the fears in order to progress. Looking forward to the next instalment. Fair winds & good luck ⛵️⛵️🤞
I so remember my diving course.. Amy had the same thing i did, diving in mercky water... But like her i over came it... It is an awesome sport.. And i know you will both " LOVE IT "..
My dive master insisted on a dive in the Black River in SC. Freezing cold, wet suits, 0 visibility, Torches tied to our wrists, going down on the anchor line; I suddenly was face to face with a huge fish that appeared 6 inches from my face! PADI makes you do things safely, I was certified in 1979.
Great shots......I love that you are taking us through the process of diving. As a teenager (a good swimmer and raised near the water, and out of curiosity) I picked up a large rock to sink myself. Once I got to murky I decided it wasn't for me....hah!. I should have tried a little harder. Good on ya!
Loved this - I had the same fears as Matt on my first few open water dives, that feeling of claustrophobia and that 20m under the surface was not somewhere people should go. This video has definitely made me want to face my fears and do more adventurous diving - as soon as we can travel! (I admit though - I laughed when you said "stunning anchorage after stunning anchorage" - there my sympathy was bit lacking!! Glad you've found a great way to use the time you're stuck!)
Hi, I've been following you for a long time and everything in your videos has always been spectacular. The sessions are great, the quality is fantastic... this channel is absolutely brilliant and you helped me a lot with the majority of my curiosities about sailing and scuba diving too, thank you so much. Anyway, I would like to make a suggestion (if it's not a problem): I'm convinced that you can add a really funny video on your channel to show some of the funniest things happened while scuba diving or even during other water activities (like swimming or anything else), it can be something like a "oops and bloopers" compilation. For example, you could make a compilation of all of the times where you and, of course, your friends get "caught" on video while peeing in the water (my uncle relieved himself in a surfing session while he was waiting for a wave and that was hilarious, he always says there are 2 types of surfers, divers and swimmers: those who pee in the water and those who lie), you can also include those moments in the future videos just to keep having a bit of humour on your channel, you can use both old and new clips, what do you think? I know it sounds weird, but, for me, it's the funniest thing about divers and swimmers. When a diver pees in the water or in his wetsuit, I think he demonstrates to be someone who is not afraid of consequences or to be judged. I think it's something that can come out great! I'd be so so happy to watch it, let me know, have a great day!
Incredible! Love your attention to story and the importance of keeping people tuned in. The underwater world is going to add such a massive dimension going forward and the experience will help keep Florence's hull from getting too foresty down there! :)
There is going to be a big scrubbing session for Florence underwater before we set off from here in May. Otherwise it will be a very slow trip to the Seychelles! Once there we will finally be able to paint on some new antifoul!
I'm sure you'll be relieved to have her out of the water for a proper look. Looking forward to that crossing for sure! Hope you're both safe and sound.
Shipwreck diving can be a bit spooky - But its kind of like going to a haunted house at Halloween - Spooky but you like it. Just like the beaches and anchorages started to look alike - so will coral reefs eventually - BUT - you can dive the same wreck over and over and you will always find something new....storms and seas are constantly exposing and covering different parts of the ship!
Thanks for another beautiful video you two. You’re both so thoughtful about sharing details that you know you’re audience might ask questions about. I was sitting here going “ooh, what shipwreck will they visit?” And you told me :-)
I never tried scuba diving and may not be able to as I have a small part of my skull that did not grow back from an accident, the water pressure mY very a problem. If I were to try Marco would be the instructor that would be great as he does not miss any thing.
I recall learning and getting certified. Did it over vacation on Grand Cayman 25 or so years ago. It was a dream come true. Unfortunately never dove again.
Very glad to see you are taking scuba to the next level. Low vis or zero vis can be a little nerve racking, but trust in your gear and recognize that although you may not be able to see, your gear is functioning as it should and all is well. It's easier said than done and can only be overcome by diving in zero vis waters...... or blacking out your mask. There's an idea. Lol
Just think, if you'd done your open water in the UK you'd have been in some freezing cold duck pond doing your 'out of air'? How amazing you're seeing turtles?
Looks like an awesome diving course, like you said, it's good for you skills when you practice in more difficult circumstances. Good for you skills and confidence, it makes you a better diver. I know for sure you will pass, but can't predict who will "win" :P
If I was diving 28m in good visibility I would set up my gear with a 3 litre bail out cylinder with its own reg. If I was diving where visibility was likely to be an issue I would use fully independent twin cylinders with spare direct feed for the bcd. Breath each cylinder down 50 bar before changing regs to the opposite side. The extra equipment weight comes off the weight belt, so no real change there, but massively safer. For independent diving, away from medical facilities on shore, you really need a decent O2 kit on your own boat. Stay safe and love your diving.

Diving in water with such poor visibility and depth is needless if ink on your stamp certification not even had time to dry. Practice in better conditions and slowly try to thinking where to put diving compresor on Florence. Crystal waters of the Red Sea is waiting...
Hi Jan, The red sea is unfortunately still looking a bit dodgy for us so we are planning to go around South Africa instead. Maybe another time. As to where to fit a compressor? Something else will have to go to make space!!!
FYI, your training apparently violated the standards of the PADI course based on you stating you were going to 28M during your OW course (which exceeds the maximum depth for the course and recommended maximum depth for the OW certification level). Your instructor should not have had you at such depths during training until your advanced open water course and could get in trouble with PADI for doing so. Also, as much as your channel relies on video I'd caution against doing much video work while diving until you get your buoyancy and trim to be second nature. It's easy to accidentally damage the reef, hit some fire coral or a venomous stonefish etc. when you're still new to diving. Diving is amazing, and I'm glad to see you two learning how to see and experience so much more of the ocean you're traveling now that the area below the surface is more accessible to you. My retirement plans are to buy a sailboat, put a compressor on it, and go sailing and diving the world full-time. So maybe in a few years I'll run into you at an anchorage :)
