- Eastport, Maine, once a bustling sardine-industry city in Washington County, is making a comeback.
In this episode of Chasing Maine, meet two of Eastport's newer residents - Richard Fulghum, a former college professor from Denver, and Joan Lowden, a native Californian who left a tech career in Silicon Valley.
Despite the challenges of long, cold winters and small-town life, they both made quality of life decisions to exit career paths and move thousands of miles to make Eastport their landing spot.

should go up to Aroostook County and do a piece up there.
Your production on this is awesome! Need to apply your techniques to my channel. Great job!
Lovely! What an extraordinary piece on one of my favorite places in Maine, and thus the world.
Love Eastport. I also work with Rich at the Waco
Rich is such a wonderful person! Glad to have met him. And he's terrific on camera.
Rich! Good to see you, neighbor. A sweet clip of a great town filled with the very best people. It's a unique place in both nature and people 365 days a year. Both solitude and activity if one chooses.
Thanks to the Second Saturday String Jam houseband MICE (Moose Island Contradance Etc). Alice Schuth-fiddle, Susan Luthin-octave mandolin and whistle, Joan Lowden-bass, Kara McCrimmon-guitar, accordion, whistles, vocals, Jim O’Neil-guitar, banjo, fiddle. Guests: Nadine, Robert, Andy, Stephanie, Sineidin. Join the MICE for a contradance at the Eastport Arts Center on January 28th.
Fun video! So nice to see Rich's familiar face from the very beginning. My partner and I travel to Eastport twice every year, in February and August. It's really cold in February, but the air is so pure and to see the sunrise over the water every morning is heavenly. An extraordinary and lovely place to slow down, recharge, and spend time with friends we've made over the years.
Terrific video!
Just wonderful. Eastport is a very special place.
I havent been to Eastport in decades.
Both my grandparents are from the Eastport/Lubec/Machias/campobello area
What a change in the hometown......
I love my second hone!
Thought it would show more of the town, not just one location...
What a lovely clip!
Great video. Thanks for sharing. My wife, Christina, and I absolutely love it here on Moose Island and the easternmost city in the USA, Eastport.
You have waited on me and my family! You are a really nice person! I will make a point to introduce myself the next time I am home. WELCOME!
Been in Maine a year, love it, nothing but positive things to say
