- Entering the Den next are Dr. Ganesh Rao and his business partner Tim Harwood to pitch their non-surgical cosmetic services 'Treatment Saver', an online health comparison site but their composed pitch falls short as they're questioned over website traffic.
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

Duncan needs his own show where pitchers get 1 min to give their speil before either getting a large wad of cash dropped on them or jettisoned straight into a vat of rancid haggis. It will be called Dunkerty Dunk and I want at least 15% of all proceeds.
The image you created in my head with this description made me laugh out loud, thank you
You could get funding if you pitched it to the dragons.
brilliant comment ! ..rancid haggis ! Hahahahahahahahaha
Duncan is so tight only dogs can hear him fart.
I’m out
"If I start a website I will get 25 000 visitors a day"
Well Peter. You are a celebrity, not a rookie entrepreneur.
Peter tries to each these people reality
Depends on the sector too. Has he launched any sites in this specific sector? AND he probably has paid ads and promotion, PR etc. Just trying to flex as usual.
I think Peter's statement was a challenge to see if the entrepreneurs recognized their inability to scale and their need of a Dragon to do so. IMO, "That's why we need your help" was the correct answer to that.
And dies his hair
@@kalanord Yeah, it was but they had no substance. As soon as Peter challenged, they didn't have an answer. I am sure part of it was editing but there were plenty of things they could have said in defence such as the 25K were targeted uniques and not simply unsolicited hits.
"The price is irrelevant"...spoken from a man worth £300 million.
Caustic remark
Surgery is one of the few areas where I'm not necessarily looking for a steep discount.
He's wrong to say that it's irrelevant, but his point is that it's not the primary factor. For elective surgery, like laser eye treatment, there's always the option of just not having the surgery. People only going to get the surgery done somewhere that they trust. You're not going to go somewhere you don't trust just because it's cheaper, and if you don't trust any provider that you can afford, you just don't get the surgery done.
Dunkin' Donut Ballatyne is my favourite. He always has that permanent stinkeye
“I don’t care about reviews, I ask for recommendations from people I know. I don’t consider price at all because I’m filthy rich!”
@@benhaas4537 He's right, though. "I'm concerned about when I walk out, am I able to see--not the price!" That's exactly why I haven't gotten it done. There was an economical option I could have afforded. It was a quarter the price of major competitors--competitors that a couple of family friends had used with great results. But, I wasn't going to trust my eyes to a discount price point. In some industries, price is indeed a lesser consideration and elective procedures involving critical functions (like sight) are definitely up there.
He's a criminal and a fraudster

Debra: "Unless you're about to tell me you've got £500k in your back pocket..."

Them: We get 25000 visitors a month
Me: Wow, fantastic numbers! I'd love t-
Peter: Those aren't good numbers.
Me: Yeah, true.
The thing is his websites aren't about laser surgeries or any other surgeries. Also when he starts a company he throws money at it to advertise and bring those views to his site. They are not paying for those views, and majority of people aren't looking to book surgeries couple of times a week.
It's like comparing apples to oranges - Peter is a known name, with a huge staff behind him. Of course he'll get more visitors.
@chris brady yeah, oranges and apples make a lot more sense
@chris brady ...are you serious?
Lol
This is a great example of "Don't give up your day job."
Absolutely
He got £250000 from a venture capitalist. He later left that and now runs a tennis booking app.
The medical booking business is named WORLDWIDE MEDICAL LTD and isn't doing much.
Lol that’s some heavy research. Love it

Who is the subject of your sentence? There are two people presenting here, yet you write “he”. To whom are you referring?
Txs
Thanks. Came here to see if someone knows how they're doing
Do people really choose laser eye-surgery and cosmetic dentistry on price rather than reputation? Have to agree with Duncan there, 100%.
It’s a combination of both. But if you have two clinics both with great 5 star reviews but one costs £1000 and the other costs £100, I’d go for the £100. It depends on your personality too - some people always think if something costs more then it is better.
@@dazediss6629 it is better that's why it costs more
In America, sometimes yes
Of course Duncan says that because he has a lot of money but normal people who don’t have that much money have to check prices and most likely would go for cheaper because we don’t have a choice
Duncan raises a good point about having eyes done properly and not at a price. I wanna make sure that I walk out being able to see clearly.
Duncan has millions of dollars of course he is not going to do much price comparisons.
All the people going to Turkey for budget teeth says otherwise.
Peter: “I will launch a website and get 25,000 views in a day”
Most people are not wealthy and famous entrepreneurs
But their competitors probaly are
"Why would I invest in you to make money if I'm already rich? What am I doing here? Where's my silver spoon? What's my name again?"
Exactly. Prob the STUPIDEST thing I've heard in a while
I don't get it, it's not like the websites he launches have his face and name all over the front page and in the URL and whatnot. It's not like google spits it out saying 'Peter Jones's website right there, he's a celebrity dragon dude y'all know so you'll click right?'. Who even knows who's behind some website or even if he's an investor in the company of said website until you really do your research? At which point you are already doing exactly what they want you to do - take interest. That's the point and that's why his argument is quite solid.
Websites aren't perfumes, you can't slap a celebrity's name somewhere on it and call it a day, expecting it to market itself from then on. Unless it's their actual official website or they're the face of the whole thing or whatever, but certainly not for some random product that the person is just invested in.
@@NatsumiMichi well if you have 10 websites and you want 11th and gain traffic, you jsut slap ad on your other 10 websites. Not only that, his status would result in some media coverage where website would be advertised once again - for free. an unknown entrepreneur wont get press exposure for starting a new project, someone like Peter Jones would.
numbers are relative. 25,000 visitors looking for a laser eye surgery is NOT the same as 25,000 people looking for a good deal on pizza... or 25,000 people interested in spending a minute reading some trivia about Peter Jones.
I wished these guys gave this response, it would have shut Peter up
Yes you’re right
He meant it focused on that area.
Also, it's not particularly relevant whether it's good for the website's area. The question for an investor is whether the business is going to make any money, and Peter obviously feels that 800 visitors per day isn't enough to make money, regardless how good it is for an elective surgery price comparison site.
25k organic traffic is insane, even back then
Yeah these “dragons” know nothing about SEO.
@@iosonoi.7132Uhh. 25k is pretty bad.
Duncan saying people don't care about the price because he didn't when he had eye surgery, well mate I can tell you most people do care about the price, I recently had eye surgery myself, and I went to the cheapest place around here. All options had great reviews so the price was really the biggest difference. Couldn't be happier with my choice. Not everyone is a millionaire
Most people wouldn't want to go cheap on something as serious as their eyes.
@@lray4437 money doesn't always equal quality. Plus, when you have the backing of multiple good reviews, I think the risk is an acceptable one for a non-multi-millionaire
@@rohilthomson Yeah but didn't you watch the clip? Ignore Duncan going for the most expensive that is beyond most peoples reach... You go for recommendations from people that have had the surgery, keep going on about seeing in HD lol and obviously people that haven't lost their sight since... going for online reviews... there is no way a site making £50 per referral (or more) is going to allow bad reviews, and no way a company will allow your website to show bad reviews to damage their brand... so the truth is the site is to promote the services as an affiliate... as a potential customer you don't know anybody posting the reviews, chances are they are all fake (at least until lots of genuine positives come along!)
Most people won’t go cheap on their lasik. I went under the recommendation of my doctor
@@lray4437 Most people go abroad to do this kind of operations, dental and hair plants in Turkey and Egypt , wonderful skilful doctors and very reasonable prices . The UK is full of clowns from all over the world. Price is very important of course maybe not for me and you but certainly is for most people . I did my eye lasic and dental work in Egypt and I had amazing and professional work done for fraction of the price in the UK.
6:44 "robbish, robbish, robbish Tim, robbish, complete and utter robbish" :D
doncan is boss
Peter has lost perspective on the real world. I help run a business in the automotive industry and we get around 15k-18k PAID (ads) visits per month to our website, which generates ~30k in sales. If we didn't have to pay for the traffic like these guys (40% of costs!!) we'd be swimming in cash. Targeted traffic is what counts though. 25k visitors for free is a good place to start, even in 2021, Peter's just being an arrogant millionaire.
No, he's a millionaire because he understands how this kind of business works. And notice the arguments made in this pitch. Medical isn't the same thing as cars.
I'll never understand how people either worship the rich, or despise them. It's not like he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.
25k a day is ludicrous for a new website
George thinking eye medical websites is the same as car websites shoes how much he's lost his perspective on the world. And since he hasn't prove that his website is the same service has these guys, he can't actually prove he knows what he's talking about. We call those people trolls.
@@Argumemnon the problem I have with the argument comparing the two business models is that you’re ignoring the fact that their website doesn’t just show the cheapest options. You can view the cheaper options that include good reviews. The website would allow you to find the best for the cheapest.
@@poojamukherjee9628 Not if you're Peter Jones. Heck there are hundreds of thousands of youtubers on here who get that view count in a day.

Don't look to multi-millionaires for advice on how middle class folks make medical decisions. Sure, the doctor must be reputed, but price is also a factor.
Price does matter but I think you’d want it done by referral rather than looking yourself on Google. Would you just go for the cheapest option?
@@davidgraham8058 The site not only has the price but also reviews.
middle class?
Why does Peter need to flex on small entrepreneurs?
Saying he get's 25000 visitors per day, lol. Big whoop Peter! You're an established guy, with an established team behind you, as well as free publicity on every new venture, and you're also probably paying a lot for SEO, SEA, PR, Copy, Graphics, Social Media etc. etc. Add to that, he's usually in completely different markets than healthcare, and his 25,000 per day figure is completely irrelevant.
Peters a don that’s why
@@sonxgoku7555 Nah, Duncan is the Don. Peter is a rookie. Look at Jessops.
you have a good point, but Peter might just be trolling to test them a bit (how they stand up for themselves, how confident they are about the business, can they think on their feet etc.)
oftentimes he's belittling entrepreneurs even when he does make an offer eventually - it's a strategy to drive the price down. not a nice strategy for sure, but pretty efficient.
@@ifwecouldvote peter has way more money than duncan
It's because he's been there. He started with absolutely nothing and fought his way to the top. He is telling them the hill they are climbing is no hop skip and a jump to success; there is going to be hard times even if you do well. It's a reveal of how hard reality can be.

What is Duncan on about? People look at online reviews, not asking around. I think he’s still stuck in the 60s
This was recorded in 1969..
The website looks it was made in 1998. What season was this!?
3, I think?
@@JustMonikaOk Absolutely not season 3, Piers Linney didn't join until Season 11, so it's at least that.
Well Peter flexing about his website doesn't hold. Let's forget about marketing budget, number of developer etc. Still the traffic on a medical website will always be less than general websites. How many times do you need surgery in a month vs how many times you book a plane ticket. Also how many people need surgery vs how many travel. This can't be compared.

As an average joe, I agree with him actually. You can’t put a price on health. Unlike car insurance, you won’t want to save money on this
@@j.j.714 He's right though, when it comes to health no one is going to get their surgery done for a cheap price at some dodgy place, they'll save up as much as needed to get it done by a trusted professional source.
@@houdini5538 Cheap doesn't equate with a back ally job FFS. There are still a number of things medical professionals have to qualify before opening a legitimate business - and patient reviews would form a huge part of that. And as someone who often financially struggles and lives with chronic disease, I have had to go with the cheapest option many times because I have had little choice.
It seemed like a good idea.....not sure why they received the treatment they did. Duncan calling it 'rubbish' and Peter saying that "we get that many visitors in a day". Strange! The comparison doesn't need to be on the pricing only, it could be on the ratings and reviews of the clinics too. And the branding could be worked on as they get more established.

I tried just now and it is a pretty lame system. I used their default postcode and got Optical Express. No reviews, prices, alternative options... I don't know why people wouldn't go direct, however, the branding itself isn't too bad.

How very short-sighted of them
These two may have made a few mistakes in their pitch or design of their site and idea, but they clearly had inroads into large businesses and came up with a decent idea. I think the Dragons tore them apart for no reason. Often times people will come on here asking for what seems like a small amount of money (like 75k) saying they need marketing help and well get investment just fine so idk why the amount asked was wrong to ask for help with marketing.

Rofl last I checked eye sight is really important why would you scoff at the expense and save money when you risk your sight in the long run
Totally, you are not going to care if you saved a few quid if they bodge the job. You need to know they have creditability
You underestimate how much some people struggle with money. As someone with a chronic disease, I have had to go with the cheapest option many times because its all I could afford and treatment was urgent. I don't know if you realize this, Duncan, but you're actually a multi millionaire. Of course you don't need to worry about price, but don't think for a second that your experience can be generalized to your average consumer. Not saying I'd back the pitch, but that is such a bad argument.
They're so out of touch sometimes, but the pitchers have to understand this before they go on and tailor it in a way they understand
It's not a bad argument at all. We're talking surgery here. Duncan didn't say that people go for the highest price. He said people consider reputation more than they do price. Which would be true when it comes to surgery. Hotels, holidays might be diferent but surgeries is something else.
It's actually amazing how many thick people in the comments misconstrue dragons comments as though they're smarter than them. Dunning-Kruger in full effect here.
But eye surgery is several thousand pounds, most people aren't getting it anyway, so maybe those that are would be careful.
@@stonecold6521 The pitchers said that 6 out of 10 people consider price as the #1 reason for choosing one provider over another for eye surgery. I'm assuming they have actual numbers to back that up as opposed to Duncan's anecdote. If they don't, that's fine and I take my comment back.
