Great Vid Jeremy!! I'm very glad I found your site!! I'm going to check that Tele! Yeah the poaching gig is really low class!! Lot of people without a clue. I'm from the old school and I'm very particular too! Most of my friends use a different term which I think you can figure out! LMAO. I'm following the Casino guys too. Nice to see good people doing this stuff. I really enjoy your playing too Bud! It's the stuff I was fortunate to see live like CSN and sometimes Y and the other people. It's come to be a magical time for me and it's starting to get hard seeing all the people I loved to see and hear! Keep it up your doing a great job 👍. Sorry to be so long winded!!

    Awesome Tele!
Poachers suck. Some people really don't understand store etiquette. At the 2nd-hand store I worked at we dealt with a lot of guitars (and appliances, tools, etc) and a lot of poachers. The best way we had to explain it to both parties was that you can't sell burgers from a food cart in Mcdonald's, nor can you set up a burger stand in their parking lot (as to your parking lot reference). We also reminded them that all the things the store guaranteed, so the poacher risked being ripped off or SOL if it didn't work (like appliances & tools), or if the item was stolen there was no recourse there, either. If they didn't back off in the store they were both told they were could forget doing business with us again, and since we were pretty much the only store of the kind in the area, and most people were repeat customers, they were pretty loath to not be able to unload their stuff or find deals.
It was nice to hear that Ray didn't appreciate the poacher. That's a stand-up guy right there! Thanks for your service, Ray! My dad was in the Army Air Corps 8th Air Force (WW2, pre-"USAF").
Love the 30-year-old strings! Shades of Eddie Van Halen and his love of dead strings.

Actually, the "poacher" story was not quite true. The store offered Roy money, he declined their offer. Phil was there, waited until it was clear that Roy was not going to accept the stores offer. Then Roy let him play the guitar, and when Phil said that he'd love to own it, Roy asked him what his offer was. In the end it wasn't enough, but the way the video guy described it was just wrong. He didn't jump into their deal, and Roy asked him for an offer. He wasn't uncomfortable.

@@danielletourje3049 If it's inside the store it's still uncool. This is also one side of the truth triangle. And, regardless, poachers still.suck.

Roy bought the guitar from a music store in Winchester, Va. the store was closing and liquidating its inventory. They had brought it down to Harrisonburg. That’s what he told me that day in the store.
    I’m the wretched “poacher”
For any concerned I will be glad to explain how it really went down. I don’t think he was “uncomfortable” when he said “YOU should buy it” and asked what my offer would be. Also missing is how I told him that this internet guitar expert would likely get him good money for the guitar. The author of this video knows it damn well too.
I’d just sold my Jeep. My offer was real cash. More than I’d ever considered paying for a guitar and I probably have no business owning one that expensive. Probably never forget that day. Probably better for my marriage that he didn’t sell it to me. That is the only vintage tele I’ve ever played. It is a killer guitar too.

I worked in a factory in the Midwest in the early 1970’s and would get paid then trade guitars and amps regularly. Oh boy, yea, I had an early 1960’s tele and an early 60’s Gibson 335 and one of the early first Mesa Boogie amps. It was shipped by plane to where I was living. I saw a tiny ad in guitar player magazine. Bought it on a whim. Yep, sold it years later.

When you had a "guy" trying to poach this deal. You made your 1st mistake with Roy not taking him to the back of the store to discuss the price. You got another customer involved and made Roy feel uncomfortable. He did come to see YOU!!! Do you think Norm (Norm's Rare Guitars") would discuss price in the public with a client?

Closest telecaster you can get to this without calling the custom shop is the reissue Japanese Telecasters. I got mine, I love it, better than the American Elite I had. The tone, neck playability, make it so precious Ill never sell it.

Umm... Care to amend your internet anti- poaching bravado? That was not how it happened. Roy told him he ought to buy it. Asked him what he would offer. Does that sound "uncomfortable " to you? He literally just sold a vehicle for $6,500. That was all he had to spend, and for some crazy reason he thought to offer all of it to Roy. Point was he waited until your offer was turned down to say anything.
It's all well and good to play holier than thou on your internet pulpit... but when you misrepresent facts and smear people.... especially a local person that has been spending money at Hometown for YEARS... You should be ashamed of yourself. Bad business. Local musicians cross paths all the time. Distorting the truth about someone to get more clicks and comments is a bad thing to do in a small town.

Sounds like sour grapes on your part about not having enough money to make a realistic offer, you're also showing a lack of empathy for the fella that made a better offer, would you feel like you would have been out of bounds if you were in the other guys shoes? Are you really helping Roy if it doesn't sell for 6 or more months?, it's the old a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush thing and Roy must need money now or he wouldn't be selling it.

I think it’s bad etiquette to jump in on a deal that you’re not part of. It’s best to wait to see that it’s not accepted and then approach later not just offer $500 while the original people are still in negotiations.
