New York Jets Bolster Depth Claiming Brenden Bates, Adding Lewis Cine to Practice Squad

Cutdown day has come and gone in the NFL, but the New York Jets are not done making moves. The team added to its tight end room by adding Brenden Bates, an intriguing tight end prospect, off waivers from the Chicago Bears. Bates had a strong preseason. The Jets also filled out their practice squad. The biggest name there didn't spend camp with the Jets. It is former Vikings first round pick Lewis Cine. Cine's signing generated buzz, but it might be good to keep expectations within reason.

Did you not watch the video? this was all explained in the first 5 minutes.
Unless something happened that hasn't been announced then Ruckert is TE2 behind Conklin. Yeboah was put on IR which means he will miss 4 weeks. Bates will likely fill that TE3 role and most likely in blocking situations and will probably be gone when Yeboah gets back.
Rodgers and Hackett like to run 2 TE sets, so they needed a 3rd TE and thought Bates was the best fit over Firkser and Kuntz on the practice squad.
