@@abrahamrangel2326 yes you have good points, but I think they are overshadowed by objectively nice features. A) it makes sense that a dragon would fly most of the time (the 2 dragons from ds 1 and 3 have been recently crippled by the player, that is why it also makes sense that Midir and Khalameet use a lot of "regular" attacks) B) Sinh combines a standard MH dragon fight, with the use of elements (like quelaag w lava) to create poisonous parts of the arena that restric the players' movements. That alone is great. C) his hitboxes are slightly better than Midir and Khalameet's ones, but that is my impression (I did a no dmg of the 3 dragons, so it s not that I don't have any experience about their hitboxes). D) they should have added a cooler music for the fight, but that is what happens in ds 2 unfortunately, with some exceptions. Never fought Placidusax though, I am currently in Leyndell in ER.
I can understand why a lot of people prefer Placidusax over Midir: a lot of spectacle, cool moves, not too easy nor difficult Midir on the other hand seems like a insurmontable mountain: extremely difficult, a giant healthbar and on top of that the way the game suggests you to play is new for dark souls (more like the normal dragons in ER), but once you master the fight it becomes so damn fun
Placidusax is just dope asf 💀💀. He is living in the past present and future, he has 2 heads but had 3, lighting attacks that are fire. His lore is pretty cool too. Hes just fire
Nah I find Midir easier than placidusax (due to a fuck ton of experience and SL1 runs), I preferred Placidusax for a while due to recency bias, but nowadays I prefer him because he's just cooler; wish he was as mobile as Midir throughout the entire fight, as it stands phase 1 Placidusax is worse than Midir but phase 2 is just a slight bit better imo.
Midir is much easier because Placidusax has many moves where it's much harder to tell when you'll take damage so correct rolling is harder and there aren't many safe approaches while Midir's attacks are always consistent with dodge timings and even if you can't dodge, you can run away from basically all of his attacks because the indication of an attack always gives you time to run away.
Placi is the quite opposite of "but once you master the fight it becomes so damn fun" This was surely a NG+7 Midir and we saw 2 weapons and 1 spell and the fight was 4mins. In ER NG+7 placi is a snooze fest for fun weapons and spells. though I like Placi nuke attack one of the coolest boss attack for sure.
Finally, a perfect Midir fight that showcases what this boss should look like to fight. Beautifully done. Been trying to find a video actually showing off the perfect dance you enter with Midir for ages. Best dragon/beast boss by a mile, only one which feels just as much like a dance as the humanoid enemies.
I just love the way he literally fumes from the mouth after doing that huge beam attack. Like even he's recoiling from it's power. Feeling like a boss is making a final last ditch effort against the player makes the fight feel like an an actual exchange.
The way Midir is introduced earlier in the dlc was brilliant to me. He's already a frightening danger to dodge and avoid, then you think you kill him on the bridge, only to find it sets up the real fight deep below.
Midir's head being overtly reminiscent of the Xenomorph Queen from _Aliens_ as well as the clear _Shin Godzilla_ homage at 1:41 is why he'll always be the best. I love your fights because they always show off the beauty and design of the bosses like they're a showcase of them in their entirety. This one is exceptionally well done in that regard!
@@dirt_dert_durt Well, I'll gladly present the evidence for you, then! (I've been researching the design evolution of Japanese adaptations of Western Fantasy for the last several years, so hopefully the following tl;dr makes for an interesting distillation of these two elements). The story in _Aliens_ is primarily about Ripley vs. the Queen, because they're both maternally protecting children against the other (James Cameron adapted his script for a different film called "Mother" to make _Aliens_ ). Even the original _Alien_ is about a lifeform that literally is born from the death of the human that darkness is implanted into and turns them into more of those monsters. That theme is why _Alien³_ has the Queen egg planted in Ripley's chest, and that whole film refers to the Xenomorph as "The Dragon" as well as why _Alien Resurrection_ focuses more on Ripley's horrible hybridization, in the same way that Miyazaki does with the relationships between Humans fusing themselves with or using Dragons throughout the _Souls_ series. The Caryll Rune "Beast's Embrace" in _Bloodborne_ is a depiction of a Facehugger, and the unused boss, "Great One Beast" utilizes the multiple teeth rows that Miyazaki started using with the Dragon God in _Demon's Souls_ along with Wolf features. That lupine element draws from the "Beast of Darkness" from _BERSERK_ like the "Watchdog of the Old Lords" boss as that's a central visual design theme for that inner darkness. Those fantasy-centric links to Dragons & Wolves are what we still see in the designs of the Ancient Dragons & Wolves of Radagon in _Elden Ring_ while the themes about parasitism and absorbing darkness within yourself that typically builds off of the _Alien_ series visual design are still present throughout (like the Albinaurics being artificial humans having white blood like the Synthetics). Suffice to say, those influences are VERY consistently utilized by Miyazaki throughout his games, but he's not alone as when _Aliens_ came out in 1986 it massively influenced the Japanese gaming industry with countless games having a Giger-like boss near the end as a final threat or secret boss, which is still used all over. It's that same darkness portrayed on a cosmic level, which is why _Bloodborne_ marries that symbolism to Lovecraftian elements. The underlying theme of absorbing darkness & pain into oneself causing a monstrous corruption that Miyazaki focuses on is why Midir matches the core theme of _Shin Godzilla._ In the scene that I mentioned this fight references at 1:41, the film's background music is a lament titled, "Who Will Know" which plays during the massive destruction of Tokyo. The lyrics convey the emotional darkness & existential pain that Godzilla experiences in his seemingly immortal existence, and why that is what escapes in the destruction of him just fighting to live. That theme was linked to the core of Japanese depiction of national suffering with Godzilla is now iconic. That matches to what Miyazaki is portraying with Midir and given that _Shin Godzilla_ was a critically acclaimed film in July 2016 when it released in Japan, and the "The Ringed City" DLC came out in March 2017, that's nearly impossible to overlook as directly tying those themes together, and being maintained with the Dragonlord in _Elden Ring_ with the attack called "Placidusax 's Ruin" following those same motions. So, those factors are why the fusion of the themes with the Xenomorph Queen from _Aliens_ and breath attack from _Shin Godzilla_ are central to the depiction of Darkeater Midir. The head design with hidden eyes and a huge crest is overtly to the silhouette of the Xenomorph Queen, especially with the spine-like protrusions. The conveyance of that inner pain being translated through the attack motions of Shin Godzilla, especially as that final attack is the one Godzilla makes in the film before being exhausted and falling to rest is how to translate those themes without the use of words. Midir was a descent of the Ancient Dragons tasked by the gods to eternal suffering as he's consuming and fighting back the darkness in exactly that type of inhuman pain that is a reflection of all the themes that Miyazaki's games are about, and how he's continued using and evolving those design motifs in his work. It's easy to see things that aren't there because just similarity of patterns doesn't mean that they are linked, as correlation ≠ causation. That's why I hope you'll appreciate that I wanted to emphasize that there is a veritable mountain of evidence that those references are things Miyazaki has used before & since, and my observation here was more than just speculative guesswork.
I might just have misread that but In case I understood correctly that you called midir female im pretty sure the girl behind the door In the ringed city Who has A ton of dialogue that you cant listen To because of the ugly bastards that walk up the stairs called midir him

Firstly, using the Ringed Spear weapon art to dodge and then attack immediately was just beautiful 👌. Also, unless I'm mistaken, you are attempting a Radagon cosplay here. I need to fight the Elden Ring dragons again to be sure, but Midir is definitely one of the best bosses in Dark Souls 3 and is certainly worthy of his title as a true Everlasting Dragon whose race was wiped out by 3 of the 4 original Lords of Fire. Midir is one of the very few things in the Souls universe who has retained most of its glory whereas most other things and people - including the original Lords, have degraded or become just a shadow of their former glory.
@@are3287 They both looked cool. Midir was great for a DS3 boss, but if you fought him now, he is just too simple-fire, melee, and runaway. The Placi fight is just boring, chipping at his tail for 10 minutes, but gameplay-wise, Bayle is far more mechanically engaging and complex. And with Igon, it's not even close.
@@godfather140 Placidusax moveset was unique in that you had to pay attention to his head and position accordingly. If they added back part cutting his fight would've been 100x better, imagine cutting off his remaining heads. Even better turn his head into a ballista weapon and now you have a fucking laser cannon.
@@ratman4910 I mean, that would have been cool, sure, but they didn't do that. The music and the spectacle of the fight were all phenomenal, but it still doesn't change that his fight is just chipping his tail, then running away when he kicks you out.and there is nothing you can do about it ,you Just go out of the hitbox with a sprint for 5 sec, then come back and resume the chipping. When he turns around, you just circle him and go back to your tail chipping like nothing happened. Phase 2 is more of the same, you will just have to dodge until he is done with his teleportation and settles down for you to find his tail. There is also baiting him to the end of the arena in his last landing so you can get behind him and avoid his bs laser beam. If you count that, Bayle on the other hand is more dynamic. You face him head-on with more immersive, varied move sets with different dodges and timings to figure out, and super optimal and satisfying punishes before, during, and after his attacks. I fought both at RL1 with an unupgraded grafted sword, and Placidusax made the 18-minute grind as insufferable as he could ,what a terrible boss.
Back then, when you actually could land hits on enemies instead of rolling around them until their 10 hit combo finishes to get in one light attack. Two lights are well to greedy...
I agree, making the head takes "double damage", instead of every other body parts taking "half damage" really changes the dynamic and how players perceive the fight. The only thing missing is the ability to cut off its tail, and gets rewarded for it.
Dark Souls 3 will always be one of my favorites because of battles like Midir, Friede, The Nameless King, Soul Of Cinder... This video just reminds me of that Awesome battle, Clean af ! 👌🏻
The way you use the weapon skill to dodge or close in distance is just amazing. Also as always you try to make it theatrical by letting the boss do his whole moveset. Amazing as always.
The best challenge run I ever did was to level faith only and use the Nameless King's Swordspear (with required str/dex of course). The buffed charge attack would chunk off a satisfying 900 or so damage. I also had to fight Nameless with basically nothing as well, and I made it a point to get to him as soon as possible anyway. Good times.
Wow, I forgot how amazing the music for this fight is. Definitely in my top 5 From bosses, I’ll never forget the dopamine rush I got the first time I beat him.

@@kun Placi doesn’t follow the normal dragon design traits. He’s pretty much just a wad of meat that swipes at you and shoots lightning. YES! For the amount of times I’ve been pounded into ash by Midir there wasn’t a single time I wasn’t having fun. The music, the arena, the moveset, and just the story behind Midir made this battle a 10/10 in my eyes.

Midir is rhythmic, he’s balanced, he’s ferocious, he’s unique, he is the best dragon From ever produced. A lot of Dragons in Elden Ring use him as a baseline, but none of them quite nail what made Midir amazing. The Ancient Dragons were something new but they paled in comparison to all of the inherent designs and mechanics of Midir’s fight. They became a nuisance while Midir remains the best.
@ONGBAL would be nice of you to have some video(s) to talk about your approach to fighting bosses, strategies etc. I know a lot of practice goes into this but you could still teach us the WAY!
Midir is sick, but seeing/fighting Placidusax for the first time was one of my best Elden Ring/gaming moments ever. He's easily my favourite ER fight and the best Dragon fight imo
Midir is probably the reason why I wasn't enjoying the dragon fights as much. I noticed early, that like Midir, they were getting more damage on the head compared to the rest of the body. So my impression was that the fight was supposed to be similar, with you waiting for the head and then strike. But the time the dragons leave their head down was so short that it was often not possible to get a hit in. And because the game also punished you for staying under them, I was a bit frustrated and just used Moonlight Greatsword (or whatever the name is this time) and sniped the heads with its ability. Took like 4-5 hits for the dream dragon. Now I know that dodging the lightning strikes isn't as difficult if you have the timing down, but I still feel that Midir's design was far more polished (well except for the fact that the camera is still a problem when you stay locked on).
Gorgeous fight, love how clean it looks with no hud. Still my favorite fromsoft dragon of all time. Lore, design, music, it’s just incredible. I don’t think I’ll ever fight him solo again, now I prefer the chaos of random rng of a full co op raid to keep me guessing
He is the best and will always be the best. The background music, the story, the balance of the fight, everything makes this fight the greatest dragon fight every
As someone who played Monster Hunter for about 8 or 9 years at the time, i didnt find Midir to be very difficult, but your spacing and timing in this video is an absolute masterclass.
Midir had the crown, but I think Bayle takes it now by a hair. This doesn't mean Midir is an easier fight now. Bayle's attacks are flashier, but Midir is still just as tough of a fight. That said, the whole mountain trek while being bombarded with lightning, fighting dragons along the way, Igon's epic dialogues, Bayle's design-missing all but one limb, one of Placidusax's heads on the neck-it's just incredible. Then the fight itself, a mechanically excellent boss fight. Chef's kiss. I am truly glad Miyazaki and Fromsoft exist. They outdid themselves. Nothing lasts forever, so enjoy these masterpieces as long as this team, led by Miyazaki, is still here.
Gael, Midir, Nameless King are the best bosses of this game. But Midir has the best build up, definitely the best DLC boss so far unless Elden Ring pulled out another magical stuff from nothingness.
Haven't done this one yet. Finishing up ds3 and ds2 and I'll prolly play dlcs and then the first one. Elden Ring sent me down the from software rabbit hole and its great
I felt like he was easier than Agheel but that’s probably because I can never dodge the breath attacks in Elden Ring because they have massive AOE. I mean I beat Midir first try when I first ever fought him and it’s never taken me more than 2-3 attempts. Though I am usually base level when fighting him.
I played the game many times before ever doing the DLC and Midir was easy after over playing Elden Ring and fighting it’s Dragons. Never played the DLC until last summer.
@Nines I have it uploaded punk. But yeah have fun I don’t care if you don’t believe in miracles. I spent the first half of the fight attacking his legs because I didn’t know that it did almost zero damage unlike Elden Ring Dragons. I wish you a fortuitous day.
The first time I arrived to the Ringed city, I defeated Midir on my second try and all of the other bosses on my first try. Now, I'm sure that didn't happen because they were easy or me being too good, but because I spend the previous 5 hours getting destroyed by the Lingering will from KH 2.5 and after that pretty much everything else was moving in slow motion.

I can understand why a lot of people prefer Placidusax over Midir: a lot of spectacle, cool moves, not too easy nor difficult
Midir on the other hand seems like a insurmontable mountain: extremely difficult, a giant healthbar and on top of that the way the game suggests you to play is new for dark souls (more like the normal dragons in ER), but once you master the fight it becomes so damn fun
I've been killing him with Farron's sword so healthbar wasn't that long)
Midir is much easier because Placidusax has many moves where it's much harder to tell when you'll take damage so correct rolling is harder and there aren't many safe approaches while Midir's attacks are always consistent with dodge timings and even if you can't dodge, you can run away from basically all of his attacks because the indication of an attack always gives you time to run away.
I watch all your videos and I'm still blown away at how you have everything calculated down to the last centimeter. Really well done!
I just love the way he literally fumes from the mouth after doing that huge beam attack. Like even he's recoiling from it's power. Feeling like a boss is making a final last ditch effort against the player makes the fight feel like an an actual exchange.
Still remember the first time I beat Midir; Midir is Legend!
The way Midir is introduced earlier in the dlc was brilliant to me. He's already a frightening danger to dodge and avoid, then you think you kill him on the bridge, only to find it sets up the real fight deep below.
BAAAAAYLEE!!!!!!!! OOH VILE BAYLE!!!!! TERROOOOOORRR ENCARNATED!!!!!!!!!!!
Midir is unmatched.
I genuinely think you're just seeing things that aren't there
@@dirt_dert_durt Look up shin godzilla atomic breath scene.
@@dirt_dert_durt you have a tiny frame of reference to draw from
I might just have misread that but In case I understood correctly that you called midir female im pretty sure the girl behind the door In the ringed city Who has A ton of dialogue that you cant listen To because of the ugly bastards that walk up the stairs called midir him
That was an absolutely stunning boss fight. And the music still hits JUST as hard.
Bravo Ongbal! Once again a beautiful performance of skill and style
Anyone else ADORE Midir’s phase 2 theme? Like it goes so fucking hard, 100% the best soulsborne soundtrack ever made

I like the violin at the beginning of his theme. It’s chilling.
Midir phase 2 theme is my favorite ost in all souls, that goes way too hard !

Not anymore, Bayle now takes the crown
Midir and Gael will forever be 2 of Fromsofts masterpieces. Genuinely perfect bosses.
THANK YOU, seriously how do you continue to be one of the realest people in the community it's unreal. Best FromSoft dragon without question, this is simply fact, great content as always.

Have you guys heard about Bayle yet? 👀
Bayle has taken the throne now!
Cuuursse youuu bayyyle , probably midir right now.
Midir's still way better tbh, and Bayle loses out on Placi too
@@are3287 They both looked cool.
@@are3287 you are just wrong
Midir's laser is too cool, such an amazing fight. nice work as always
Dark Souls 3 will always be one of my favorites because of battles like Midir, Friede, The Nameless King, Soul Of Cinder...
This video just reminds me of that
Awesome battle, Clean af ! 👌🏻
Love the DS3 content!! I didn't think you'd make more videos of it again!
And I gotta agree, Midir really is the best Fromsoft dragon.
Beautiful fight.
Best Midir fight i ever saw.
Chapeau!!
Good times.
Perfect gameplay! This was sooo satisfying to watch!
Very true, Midir is legendary, as well as your work
Ongbal really knows how to show us just how awesome these games and bosses are. Midir's desperate dark laser combo is amazing.
What an insane fight, awesome stuff!

Can't believe how beautiful Midir's laser attack was. Never had them before and it's absolutely gorgeous
No other game has nailed a giant fight like this so thoroughly for me. You face him head on the whole time. No chipping at the ankles
I love watching this guy play. The craft and cleanliness of his runs are amazing.
HOLY SHIT I AM ALIVE RIGHT NOW-
Honestly. There's 'rare gameplay footage', and then there's someone who's really good at the game just picking an unoptimized but cool-looking loadout and showcasing just how amazing a bossfight can be. Hitless with no HUD, adding to it.
ONGBAL as usual. Man, I'll just never get enough of this game.
The startup when he unfurls his wings and roars always gives me goosebumps
BAAAAAYLEEEEEEEE!!!
I agree, Midir is still the best dragon boss in FromSoft history
How about now @ONGBAL?
Remember, the trick to fighting most FromSoft dragons is to be brave and stay within a few paces of their face
Not Elden Ring dragons where you just whack at their toes and their rump in case of Placidusax.
@@kun Placi doesn’t follow the normal dragon design traits. He’s pretty much just a wad of meat that swipes at you and shoots lightning. His heads aren’t that large at all and aren’t the focus of the fight. Meanwhile all the other dragons in ER follow a more traditional design, encouraging the head as a weak point. He’s more of an exception to the rule.
@@nono-lz9qr even the other dragons be it the agheel types or the lanseax type i find it so much easier to just stay under them and whack at the legs. They don't punish you at all for doing that unlike Midir. It kinda feels like most of them are faster but less tanky version of DS2 ancient dragon.
@@kun Lanseax is strange. It very much has the head as it’s weakness, but they modeled the damn thing wrong so it’s hard to hit it. The agheel’s are meant to be whacked on the head though, it does more damage and allows you to riposte them
@@nono-lz9qr Yeah and they do a lot of frontal attacks too. Sure the agheel types have advantages to whack the head it's just that unlike Midir, staying under them is a lot easier and you still do pretty good damage so i dont find a lot of incentive going for the head.
Midir's laser at the end is what I was waiting for and it was right on time to be his last move. Satisfying as always, Ongbal!
Beautiful as always
*The* Dragon bossfight.
You know it's a hard boss when it takes Ongbal 4 minutes to kill him.
YES! For the amount of times I’ve been pounded into ash by Midir there wasn’t a single time I wasn’t having fun. The music, the arena, the moveset, and just the story behind Midir made this battle a 10/10 in my eyes.
Epic performance as always! 👏
The most majestic boss.
You clearly don't know what majestic means 😂
@@BlueBirdsProductions Trust me, I been defeated enough to feel fighting Midir and winning eventually so majestic 💪
I have discovered Midir always starts with that rampage move and if you do nothing after dropping to the area, he gets very close to you without damaging you so I'd just wait for him at the start of every attempt.
Mr Ongbal sir, lovely work as always. Can you do some elden ring bosses with Godfrey's Axe, the moveset is awesome, I'd love to see someone with your skills use it.
the most impressive thing in these vids is the spacing, and its especially noticeable in this fight

The end where he seemingly gathers all of his remaining power for one last beam attack. After he's spent he just lays down in defeat as you execute him... perfect cinematography through gameplay.
Don’t worry Midir, your OST is the thing that Bayle can’t even compare to
Dont worry midir your ost is way better than Bayles(Bayles ost is still a banger)

Not only is he one of the best dragons done by fromsoft, Midir is one of the best dragon bosses ever, period.
He tops even ones from specialized series like most MH 5th gen elder dragons, et cetera
Just a masterwork in terms of design
Fatalis from Iceborne was the best for me. Midir still the best from soft dragon boss.
@@Cilanad Fatalis was amazing
Fatalis and Midir are both bosses and dragons peak of perfection you can get. (well I sure died to them enough times to suffer hahaha )
Safi'jiiva and midir have some similarities, laser breath and massive size.
@@Cilanad Other than Fatalis, i also love Alatreon fight especially soloing him, if only they don't cripple his fight with that elemental check then playing with other people would be much more fun, responding to SOS Alatreon is always like playing dice..
Good fight and very nice Radagon Cosplay sir !
The music...aww the music. Those dissonant strings sound like a dragon screeching ...so perfect.
the music with the fight just fits sooo well

His theme song is also probably still my favorite in all of Fromsoft's games
Gorgeous fight, love how clean it looks with no hud. Still my favorite fromsoft dragon of all time. Lore, design, music, it’s just incredible. I don’t think I’ll ever fight him solo again, now I prefer the chaos of random rng of a full co op raid to keep me guessing

@Nines I have it uploaded punk. But yeah have fun I don’t care if you don’t believe in miracles. I spent the first half of the fight attacking his legs because I didn’t know that it did almost zero damage unlike Elden Ring Dragons. I wish you a fortuitous day.
