    op de eerste plaats complimenten voor de geweldig mooie ne leuke filmpjes! Leerzaam en interessant. Graag laat ik mij telkens weer meenemen op jouw mooie reizen! Wat ik mij afvraag , ik zie dat jij vaak op een motor vaart, ik heb ook een schip met twee motoren, mij is altijd verteld dat je op beide motoren moet varen omdat anders de keerkoppeling van de motor die niet draait geen smering / koeling krijgt en dan warm loopt.

      Dank je voor het compliment en 'welkom aan boord!' Deze vraag wordt inmiddels zo vaak gesteld dat ik een standaard antwoord heb. Die luidt:
      Adding a 2nd engine cost 100% fuel burn (at least 10liter @ € 1.85/liter as I write this) per hour extra, but only giving 25% more speed. So the calculation is simple. I only use two engines for maneuvring near bridges and in port.
      I run them seperately to keep the running hours in balance.
      There are drives which heat up during 'freewheeling'.
      I have "Velvet" drives and the manual states:
      Freewheeling: "It has been determent bij tests and practical experience that all Velvet Drive Marine Transmissions can be freewheeled without risking damage in sailing or trolling applications. Caution should be taken to be sure that proper oil level is maintained during freewheeling as well as normal running. Freewheeling one propellor on a two engine boat at trolling speed will not cause damage to the transmission connected to the freewheeling propellor."

    • @MVLadyLiselot
      @MVLadyLiselot  2 года назад

      Ja dat klopt. De vraag wordt regelmatig gesteld, en daar heb ik een antwoord voor opgeslagen, die zal ik hier plakken:
      Experience learns me that adding a 2nd engine cost 100% fuel burn (at least 10-15liter in a non-current water way @ € 1.85/liter as I write this) per hour extra, but only giving 25% more speed. Hoi Henk-Jan, wij kijken met veel plezier naar de video’s. Wij zijn wannabe’s voor het reizen en wonen op het water. In een van de video’s geef je aan maar 1 motor nodig te hebben. Nu vraagt ik me af wat het moment is om de 2e bij te zetten. Voor het langzaam manoeuvreren is het wel duidelijk. Maar in welke omstandigheden laat je beide lopen tijdens het varen?

    • @MVLadyLiselot
      @MVLadyLiselot  2 года назад

      Hallo Michel, wat leuk dat ook jullie plezier beleven aan de video's. De gulden regel die ik hanteer is: zodra ik niet meer hoef te manoeuvreren, heb ik ook geen 2e motor nodig. Manoeuvreren met 1 motor is een ramp op dit schip omdat beide schroeven ver naar buiten zijn geplaatst. Om de gang er lekker in te houden hanteer ik een snelheid van 10km/h maar in veel kanalen geldt een limiet van 9km/h. Nou is het niet zo dat ze met een lasergun langs het water staan, maar het scheelt wel veel in de golfslag, en dus houd je (in heel veel gevallen) rekening met andere vaarweggebruikers of -bewoners.
      Een deel van jouw vraag is al een aantal keren gesteld, waardoor ik een standaard reactie klaar heb staan. Dat is deze: adding a 2nd engine cost 100% fuel burn (at least 10-15liter in a non-current water way @ € 2.05/liter as I write this) per hour extra, but only giving 25% more speed. So the calculation is simple. I only use two engines for maneuvring near bridges and in port.
      I run them seperately to keep the running hours in balance.
      Er zijn ook mensen die dan zeggen: "Ja maar de keerkoppeling moet toch voldoende smeering hebben (wat in een aantal gevallen alleen gebeurt als de gekoppelde motor draait) en daarop heb ik ook een standaard antwoord (je ziet, als ik in de gaten heb dat die vraag vaker gesteld wordt, dan slap ik het antwoord op, dat werkt sneller...) :
      I have "Velvet" drives and the manual states:
      Freewheeling: "It has been determent bij tests and practical experience that all Velvet Drive Marine Transmissions can be freewheeled without risking damage in sailing or trolling applications. Caution should be taken to be sure that proper oil level is maintained during freewheeling as well as normal running. Freewheeling one propellor on a two engine boat at trolling speed will not cause damage to the transmission connected to the freewheeling propellor."

    • @MVLadyLiselot

      Neen, helaas. Eenmaal ter hoogte van Hotel NewYork bleek dat de MicroSD card van de camera in de stuurhut al vanaf de entrance of de Nieuwe Waterweg (zo ontdekte ik later natuurlijk) in kleine letters meldde "Disk FULL". Alle communicatie met Maasmond Entrance en de tocht door de Nieuwe Waterweg met diverse schepen vanaf zee en de Nieuwe Maas zijn niet opgenomen. Zonder die coverage vond ik de andere uren filmmateriaal niet zo zinvol. Ik kom er van de zomer nog wel een paar keer door heen. Inmiddels is de camera in de stuurhut vervangen en werk ik met losse 1- en 3 TB schijven zodat me dit niet meer overkomt. Maar... je moet dan wel op [rec] drukken anders heb je nog niets aan al die dure spulletjes, zo ontdekte ik laatst. ;-(

    Henk, recently you asked, "how can you improve content?" First, your presentation style is compelling, so no change needed there. Would like another camera (or two) in your wheelhouse to give more viewing angles. Maybe the occasional split screen to show details of your chart-plotter whilst continuing with main view? Would like more details of your navigation system. You don't appear to have RADAR, why? Would like to see more of your engine room and have more details of your engines. Would also like to see more of "Lady Liselot". Thanks for the recent addition of text translations on-screen of your conversations on the radio in Dutch, very good move. Keep-on-vlogging.

      Hey Terry, Guess what? I added extra light in the wheelhouse so when starting early, I can at least light out my face, so you do not look into a black room. Radar did not came with the boat, but I will add it soon. (Remember me to open a Patreon account to raise the € 3,000.- it cost - hahaha)

    Hi Henk ... you make that close quarter maneuvering so smooth and precise also departing from the mooring ... alas now my Mrs (Tracy) is watching she will expect me to try the same haha🤣🤣... slow and smooth is always best.
    We so very nearly bought a Trader 535 sunbridge a few years back but unfortunately it was just a little to big for the waterways we are on ( a few low bridges that don't open) so ended up going smaller..
    As of now we are awaiting 2 storms to smash through the UK over the next couple of days so no boating for us this weekend...

    • @MVLadyLiselot
      @MVLadyLiselot  2 года назад +1

      OMG What have I done? ;-)
      Hi Tracy and Steve! I must confess that whilst being in the buying proces I noticed the height of Lady Liselot of 5.4m with mast down. I then did some prep routeplanning and found out that most fixed bridges are 4.8m, here. So I had to choose, and you know my decision. I realize I do miss many many nice Dutch waterways, but I had searched for almost a year and the rest in the market was not my type of boat. Perhaps I join smaller boats for a trip and create extra footage that way.
      On the maneuvring in the Netherlands we have an expression when we have to do something very carefully. We say "as careful as hedgehogs". According to tradition, these animals would also handle certain matters cautiously. ;-)

    • @stevegreen3355
      @stevegreen3355 2 года назад

      @@MVLadyLiselot like yourself we searched for a boat that we both liked and had everything we wanted but had to compromise as our waterway would have been very restricted and only having weekends and occasional week or 2 to use it we decided on something that could give us more choice of routes/destinations... however when retirement comes along and less restrictions on our time to use it then our original plan will be to get a trawler style yacht.

    Nice video. I love this kind of content. Is there any option that the harbor controls won't give you permission to leave and why?
    By the way, running a twin engine boat on only one engine might ruin your gear box, beside the fact that it's more save to run on both engines.

    • @MVLadyLiselot
      @MVLadyLiselot  2 года назад +1

      Hi and thank you for the compliment.
      .1. Since Scheveningen is a seaport which often has both outbound and inbound commercial barges and fishing vessels. During those moments portcontrol will ask you to wait. Like with Dover years ago when you had to ask permission before entering, since a hoovercraft or fast cat could depart.
      .2. When engine 2 is off, the gearbox (and shaft) spins a little because of the water flowing by.
      .3. As fas as I know most vessels have only 1 engine. Why do you think it more save to run both?

    • @allaboutyachting
      @allaboutyachting 2 года назад +2

      @Sailing MV LadyLiselot Thanks for the reasonable answer. Concerning running a twin engine boat on only one engine, there are some things to consider. Some boats are hard to stear, others behave well. But two things are critical in my opinion. Normally gearboxes need a certain oil temperature and pressure to distribute the oil completely. Slow turning then leads to very high wear and damages. My ZF gearbox manual clearly says that this is a nogo and should only be done in emergency situations, when one engine is dead. The other point is that I would suspect that if you had an accident whilst working only one engine you could be accused of not maintaining full control of your vessel. Think about an emergency situation where you suddenly need full power, or maneuverability. An emergency stop for example and you first need to start the second engine. If you're lucky it costs you only seconds. If you have bad luck, may the second engine won't start immediately. Consumption wise I only would save about 20% of fuel on my boat. But this differs from boat to boat. Wear and safety are the main reasons not to drive with only one engine, if you have two 😉

    • @MVLadyLiselot
      @MVLadyLiselot  2 года назад +1

      @@allaboutyachting Adding the 2nd engine bring 100% extra fuel burn and only 25% extra speed.

    Is that your autopilot making all the noise at the very end of the video?

    • @MVLadyLiselot
      @MVLadyLiselot  2 года назад +1

      Hi Martin, the two tones your hear is my autopilot solenoid. It’s in the cabinet behind the steer. The EV1 is on the fly because of to much electronics and magnetic fields in that cabinet causing a lot of SB-BB corrections due to movements of the boat. Would love to reduce those corrections. Besides that you also hear my heater.

    Hi Henk hello from Ireland and very much enjoying your videos 👌please could you stop off in Hellevoetsluis as it is a beautiful harbour moated town, I lived there twenty years ago and fell in love with it's community and made many friends. Just thought I would ask you Henk thank you for your great videos 👍👏

      Hello David, John already got that right. I have a remote for both thrusters, so that when I am loosing a line and the boat floats away towards neughbours or even further I can maneuvre her. There are (€ 12k+) remotes who also give you control on the engines. So then you can maneuvre the boat with all engines. This system came with the boat and it works fine for me.

    The harbour master said you were ‘allowed’ to leave. Are there any reasons when he would say you are not allowed to leave harbour?

    • @MVLadyLiselot
      @MVLadyLiselot  2 года назад

      Hello Anton, yes there are. Because the commercial fishingvessels also use the same entry, they have higher priority. Or when other commercial ships from sea arrive, they ask you to give room or (even) wait a while to depart.

    just one more please, why not run both engines together, one engine alone must be more stress on it.thank you.

    • @MVLadyLiselot
      @MVLadyLiselot  2 года назад +2

      Adding a 2nd engine cost 100% fuel burn (at least 10liter @ € 1.85/liter as I write this) per hour extra,
      but only giving 25% more speed. So the calculation is simple. I only use two engines for maneuvring near bridges and in port.
      I run them seperately to keep the running hours in balance.

      @@MVLadyLiselot I don't know what kind of lubrication system you're using for the prop shafts, but in commercial ships they commonly lock the non used shaft. Otherwise it starts spinning because of the water passing by and without the engine running, there isn't any lubrication. Could be something to look out for.

    • @MVLadyLiselot
      @MVLadyLiselot  2 года назад +2

      @@denwillem You have a good point. The non-used shaft does spin. Not fast, just as if it's in idle. I have grease lubrication. I will ask around, what to do. On the racing sailboat we had a foldable prop, so we always stopped the engine and put it in reverse so that it would fold. Perhaps I must also put the non-used shaft in gear, to lock it. I'll check that.

    • @denwillem
      @denwillem 2 года назад

      @@MVLadyLiselot It should be ok. As long as there’s enough grease of course. It will only depend on how grease is being pumped to the shaft. If it’s a system that is triggered by the engine running, you could modify it. Lots of options! :)

      I did a holiday job in an automatic lubrication company in Rotterdam when I was about 16 called Schmeertechniek BV
      They did work on ships and the Euromast. If they're still going I'm sure they can sort Lady Liselot's lubrication issues out 😁
