Guaranteed they don't use actors. They use editing. Don't forget, my friend, sometimes real life is stranger than fiction.

This did not seem natural. Definitely scripted like the phone taps and second date updates.
@@mikes1342 If they used actors, it would've seemed natural. Real people are nervous on the radio, actors train for years to sound natural.
I work in the entertainment industry, and it makes much more sense to use real people. The trick is editing, and recording a lot of Awkward Tuesday Phone Calls, many of which never get aired. I even heard them say in one of the Second Date Updates that they do calls that don't get aired because they're too boring.
In a city of 4 million people though, you're bound to find some interesting stories. Also, the call might have lasted 45 minutes, then they picked the most interesting parts and cut it down to 15 minutes. That's another sneaky trick they could use.
There are many tricks that are used, but hiring actors is the least likely. Finding the unexpected (which is available anywhere) can be much more interesting.
