Damn, son. Almost every time I watch your channel, I end up spending money! I don't know whether to stop watching or talk to my wife first. Oh well, I know I am not going to stop watching. This is timely for me, I have a bunch of small trees sprouting along my driveway at the edge of a pond and this looks like just the ticket. Woo hoo.
😂
My wife already asked me to stop watching TCT! 😂😂😂 Not gonna happen!!!

I invented and built the “ log arch “ . I thought I might become very wealthy from it and was very pleased with myself . Soon after , somebody with the internet showed me 1000’s of them ! Bugger ! More than 20 years later my prototype is still in regular use .
Frustrating, just when you think you hit the Jack-pot someone bursts you bubble. Oh well you know you had a good idea.

A Indian Tribe in Northern California makes a tool similar, we call it the weed wrench. Works really well on scotch broom
Steve it seems there are 3 major companies that make a tree puller. Weed Wrench, Extractigator and Pullerbear. From what I can see all are well made.

Great idea, how well does it work in heavy soil like clay?
There are several factors, first what species of tree are you trying to remove. An oak has longer tap roots than a pine.
You’re always better off working after a good rain.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
@@TonysCoolTools Excellent news, if there's one thing we have plenty of then it's rain. It never stopped from July 2023 until the first week in May. Thank you 💚🇮🇪☘️
White Pine won't sprout from a stump when you cut it - it just dies. Pine is not particularly rot resistant, so most of the roots will compost in a year or two. Why bother yanking them up when you can just cut them off? This is true of most trees and shrubs by the way. The only reason I can see for pulling the roots is if you intend to grown a garden or plant some new trees or shrubs, and then you need only pull those that are where you want to dig the hole. Unfortunately Tony doesn't show us how big a root-ball you can reliably pull with this tool. The ones he is pulling are between 1" and 2" diameter I think. White pine would be pretty easy to pull, having fairly shallow roots, but pulling something that has a major tap root like oak or walnut would be very difficult at this size I would say. (A tap root is a single large, long, root descending straight down from the center of the tree trunk. Tony is mistaken: White Pine do not have them). I've seen some pretty cool, unique hand tools for digging up fairly large, established trees to in order to transplant them though, with root-balls up to 48": Tripple Brook Farm:

Nice demo. But wouldn't a chain saw be about 10 times quicker than mucking about with that tool?
Cal, In the case of pine yes a chainsaw or HD loppers would probably be a better choice however for many of the invasive trees and bushes if you saw or cut the trees they grow back thicker. Total removal with as much of the root system is the best method.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
That white pine makes a lot of white pine needle tea
ha ha well then I have enough to supply all of Wisconsin 😂
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
Do you sell your excess white pine seedlings on eBay or Etsy?
Since you’re uprooting them, they should be find to transport somewhere else, right?
Well I mostly give them away to anyone who asks. We’ve made multiple attempts to transplant but without a fence the deer eat them almost as quickly as we plant them.

@@TonysCoolTools thanks for the response!
I bought one of these a while back to help pull some small cedars. There is a potential hazard when using this tool. When pushing down to remove one of the small cedars, the trunk suddenly snapped. This resulted in my body suddenly goiing down towards the ground. However my head did not keep up and was jerked backwards relative to my body.. Essentially a whiplash type situation. Fortunately no injury was sustained from this sudden movement. Just something to be aware of.when using this tool.
Sad truth is that could happen if you were trying to pull out a small tree and it snapped sending you falling backwards.
It’s like any tool you use you have to be cognizant of potential hazards.
Thanks for watching, commenting and supporting my channel.👍TCT
That's not on the tool. That's on you.
Did you ever try to break free a stubborn lug nut, only to have it suddenly give way and send your knuckles and body smashing into the pavement? Yeah, there is a potential hazard when using a wrench. We learn to brace ourselves when applying a great force so that we can minimize or avoid a violent follow through when something gives way.
Thank you for sharing what you painfully learned so that others may learn without the pain. However, pain is the most common and effective teacher.
@@davidsnyder3799 I think for most people, if you are pulling back on something you are prepared for the possibility that you could fall back. The usual stance is to make sure one leg is behind the other in case you fall backwards.
The situation of rapping your knuckles using a tire iron generally happens much closer to the ground.
For the situation I was in, my body was between two and three feet above the ground. A much larger distance to suddenly lurch forward and cause my head to snapback the way it did.
It is also a failure mode that I expect a lot of people may not anticipate and also probably can't brace themselves for compared to a pulling back situation.
It is situation that people need to be aware of when using the tool.
@@davidsnyder3799 David, thanks for your comment 👍TCT
@@googacct Tools are dangerous, in the wrong hands. It is important to use the correct hands.
It seems to me like you were using the notches on the foot backwards. The initial pool I would think you’d want the fulcrum as close as possible then the second pole move the fulcrum away giving you more throw and less leverage right? But again a cool tool I’ll have to figure out how to make one because I can’t find it on Amazon.
Glad you enjoyed the video. I was setting the notch on whatever I could get the most leverage then repositioning again.

I use a winch with a chain wrapped around the sapling. Very little effort required and most of the entire root comes out. I've used this method with pulleys to take out up to 60' trees with a bad lien and 4' circumference.
Thanks for sharing, I know there are multiple ways of removing trees, and bushes. Thie Extractigator is only one way.

What’s the chances that I came across this video the day after I struggled for an hour to remove the roots of a vine-like bush with a heavy duty crowbar and some 2x4s? My only consolation is there was nothing much above ground that the Extractigator would have been able to grab onto.

Is there any disadvantage or restriction from using the "big daddy" model on small diameter trunks?
Either puller works great, the Classic is a litter lighter and automatically opens so it’s a little faster to use initially on small diameter trees but with practice the Big Daddy would do the trick as well. It all depends on what you have on your property.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT

would it work for chain link fence post that are not set in concrete?
I’m really not sure? unlike the T-post that has nubs every inch or so a round metal fence post doesn’t have anything to hold on to or grip.
I would suggest contacting Extractigator and asking Shawn the inventor his thoughts.
