  • Roy Rogers was the biggest star in Hollywood in the 1950s. See: www.amazon.com... This video takes you to his old home, etc. At the Victor Valley Museum; here are the clothes and artifacts at the Victor Valley Museum worn by Roy and Dale. Nudie Cohn designed many rhinestone costumes for Elvis, Elton John, and Roy and Dale. I was in Nudie's western wear store in North Hollywood to put up a square dance class flyer on their door. Elvis was in the store at the time.
Roy and Dale were professing Christians members of the Hollywood Christian Group which had many movie stars as members. My sister was secretary of this group. My sister Gladys made a big impression on him; she served Roy coffee, accidentally spilling it on him. Next time he met her he said, "No coffee, thanks." Roy was a shy man, one time someone asked him a question and my sister said, Dale answered for him from the kitchen. But when he was alone he was the star of the show. I saw him at the Eiler's (member of the Hollywood Christian Group) cabin at Forest Home Christian campground in Forest Falls near Big Bear. He was driving a Jaguar sports car.
Then in the video I take you down the road to Roy's original home on Highway 18, bought in 1965 and lived there till 1980, (When they acquired a ranch in Apple Valley on Roy Rogers Road. They are buried here). They added a large garage for limos, a workshop, stables, corrals and a practice ring for horsemanship on the outlying property. Visitors can see the storage rooms where Dale hung her costumes, the wagon wheel and tack Roy placed in the front yard, and Roy's central sound system with instructions in his handwriting. The current owner bought the home in 1990 and has kept the original antique and western décor. The owner has also purchased items from sales of the famous couples' belongings, including costumes, furniture and other memorabilia.
I show you the corrals and a horse that still lives there. Be sure and bring carrots!
Then I drive by the shopping centre next to the 15 freeway where the Roy Rogers Museum used to be. It was torn down. The spot is now occupied by Gold Strike Lanes bowling alley in a huge shopping center.
Then I take you across the freeway to a restaurant. This is one of a chain of one of my favorite restaurants in Riverside and Moreno Valley: Spunky Steer, and Steer and Stein (Steer and Stein make me feel oh so fine!). When I stopped there I said to myself, "If I were Roy Rogers, this would be one of my favorite restaurants." Bingo. The manager showed me the autographed pictures.
July 6, 1998 Roy Rogers in 87 movies 1940s to 1950s and 1950s television series, died in his sleep at his home in Apple Valley, Calif. He was 86, and had been ill with ailments including congestive heart failure. Dale Evans - his wife of 51 years - Rogers didn't smoke. He didn't drink. He didn't spit. He didn't say any curse word stronger than "shucks. " He didn't kill the bad guys. He would shoot the gun out of their hand. Or shoot a chandelier down on their head. Or he beat them up in a fair fight. And he'd sing. He owned a chain of Roy Rogers fast food Restaurants which was bought by Marriott Corp.

Lexsi Houseman , those are not weeds, but natural Mojave’s desert plants. Some are chaparral, some mesquite.

My grandmother lives right up the street. The house directly across the highway is where an elderly couple was murdered in 2016 😪. Their killer got his comeuppance just a few days later in Torrance. 😎

The horse's name was Suzie and she has now passed and the dog was Beast, who has also passed. If anyone wants to see Roy and Dale items and learn more about them, please visit the Apple Valley Legacy Museum. The lady who lives in the house you filmed opened the museum in March 2015.

Interesting to know about the big game animals that were murdered, stuffed and displayed. Glad I missed that.
