I am an Ashkenazi (Eastern European) Jew, and just listening to the clarinet intro to this video, it is clear how much our folk music, Klezmer, is Balkan. I've always wondered why this is, since we were mostly in Western and Eastern Slavic countries in which the folk music is a lot different. It would be interesting for an ethnomusicologist to provide an answer as to why Jewish music is more Balkan than say, Polish or Belarussian/Russian/Ukrainian. We had a whole Klezmer set at my wedding. Our dancing was not nearly this good, though! Except for one of my brothers, who is actually a good dancer. Your dancing, Mr. Petropoulos is amazing; you must be in amazing shape! I first starting watching your videos when I coincidentally came across one of your Assyrian dance medleys. I speak Assyrian Neo-Aramaic, in addition to my family language, Hebrew. Greetings from Connecticut, USA.
I mean Balkan music itself is an mix of ancient south European music and oriental Anatolian middle eastern music… it’s hard to say why but probably because of the influence of Arabic music in Spain and the roots of the Jews
You see, this clown has no respect for democratic values and of signed treaties referring to the Prespa agreement of the name North Macedonia. so true, nationalism is mind-numbingly moronic. there is no such thing as a "legitimate state" because national borders are all just made up. it's sad that people let what governments decided in the past dictate their sense of identity, and use some false idea of ethnic superiority as their source of unearned pride. i wish the chauvinists would realize that none of this really matters today and they can simply enjoy the rich history and folklore of this region without dividing people based on stupid fascist propaganda.
Every region has its own dances which the region is known for, the costumes are easy to distinguish too. Every city/town/village is unique but it shares the same Macedonian spirit. Are you from that region?
It depends on the region. Eastern Macedonia has a lot of Slavic influences from Bulgaria and Serbia and they mainly use the accordion, drums, flute, and bagpipes. Western Macedonia where I am from has a lot of Muslim influences from Macedonian Muslims, Albanians, and Turks and we use the zurna, drums, clarinet, and flute. South Macedonia ,including bitola and ohrid, has greek influences and uses a lot of clarinet and drums. Central Macedonia also has a lot of Turkish influence and they are famous for Macedonian Chalgija music (very Ottoman sounding music). Skopje is a mix of everything PLUS Romani influences (Gypsy music) and Turkish influences. Basically, Macedonian music is the perfect representation of all Balkan music in one.
@@petergriffinmk2884 thats so true@,,,!! I as a serbian loooove and adore macedonian music. it makes me happy and sad at same time....peace to my north macedonian people
That's because you've stolen all our Macedonian dances and folklore, most of your "Bulgarian" songs/dances come originally from Macedonia, otherwise Bulgaria has very poor folklore and dances in general
Same as with the language, the Bulgarian pagan tatar tribes that moved to the Balkans with Khan Asparuh spoke Turkic language at first but later stole and adopted the Macedonian language, alphabet and culture

Amazing macedonia well done 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Can all of you stop bringing in politics and enjoy no one is pure everyone in the balkans are mixed
so true, nationalism is mind-numbingly moronic. there is no such thing as a "legitimate state" because national borders are all just made up. it's sad that people let what governments decided in the past dictate their sense of identity, and use some false idea of ethnic superiority as their source of unearned pride. i wish the chauvinists would realize that none of this really matters today and they can simply enjoy the rich history and folklore of this region without dividing people based on stupid fascist propaganda.
Very true!!! Our cultures are similar because we are all mixed. Love from Greece 🇬🇷
Yes offcourse. We all the same.
Bravooo. Super

❤❤
😊
Bravo Vasilis
Thank you!!:)
These dances are completely different to the ones in Macedonia (Florina and Edessa). Not sure why they think we are the same?
I as a serbian loooove and adore macedonian music. it makes me happy and sad at same time....peace to my north macedonian people
@@petergriffinmk2884 All the balkan muzic and dances came from the antic pelasguian--thracian muzic and dances.

Fantastic
Thank you 😊
Good job 😎
😍thanks!
So similar to ours, I love it!
Efkaristo- Thank you for this
Blagodaram 😊
No difference from Bulgarian folklore :) And the songs in Bulgarian :) And a little Greek folklore :) Bravo Vasilis :)
Very difference
Bulgarian music is Tatar not slavic
That's because you've stolen all our Macedonian dances and folklore, most of your "Bulgarian" songs/dances come originally from Macedonia, otherwise Bulgaria has very poor folklore and dances in general
Same as with the language, the Bulgarian pagan tatar tribes that moved to the Balkans with Khan Asparuh spoke Turkic language at first but later stole and adopted the Macedonian language, alphabet and culture
@@Hris1234 what world do you live in?🤣
Прекрасно! ❤
Amazing.
🇲🇰❤️🇬🇷
What's the dance on 2:07, I tried to find, but I found this entire 15-17 minute long performance, but I need the part at 2:07 only. Thank you Vasílis for making me go for a deep dive into Balkan dancing, and even try some of it myself!
me encantó, muy bien me suscribiré
