    This routine is before or after the training ?

    • @Kumofan
      @Kumofan 5 месяцев назад +2

      I can’t speak for the presenter, but *after* is generally best practice.
      There are no tangible benefits to stretching before exercise rather than after. In fact, it can be a bad decision for a couple reasons:
      1. Static stretching without having warmed up enough can cause muscle tears. A quick warm up is not enough for this level of stretch.
      2. Stretching before exercise can decrease performance.
      3. Static stretching before something like karate may be dangerous, as it can allow you to overextend in a kick.
      This all said, a dynamic stretching routine might be fine as part of a warm up, but this static one would be only advisable after your training session. It also serves as a cool-down period as an added benefit.

      If you want to hurt yourself and be out of training for ages, maybe even end up in hospital, then yeah, go for it. A guy at our dojo ended up in hospital and is in a wheelchair for the foreseeable future because he didnt want to warm up. If you really must be lazy, whether you just dont want to warm up or you dont have the extra time, it only takes a few mins to do something simple, a few burpees, or even just some star jumps to get the blood flowing, then some light range of motion strecthes to get the muscles ready. Probably take you two miniutes. Even if its not a full warmup, its better than trying to stretch cold muscle.

      If you are talking about standing up while rotating your hips in a circular motion one direction then the other, it's actually to flex your spine helping to keep it in alignment. This is why it could help relieve the pain of stretching.

    • @james777ko2
      @james777ko2 3 года назад

      I'm 60 years old and these stretches do indeed still work for older people. I first took Taekwondo at age 25 and due to military commitments I had to stop. A couple months after turning age 60 I started up again. I've only been doing these stretches for a couple of weeks and the improvement is really something. I still have a long way to go but my kicks are easier to do and are higher.

    • @waltmorton1190
      @waltmorton1190 3 года назад +1

      @@james777ko2 Sure, stretching in some form improves flexibility at all ages. Not everybody is built the same. If you can do these stretches at 60, count yourself lucky. Out of several hundred karate black belts I know, a large percentage get hip or knee problems as they age. Hip and knee replacements are common. I trained for a while with Hideo Ochi (9th dan) who was phenomenally flexible in his 60's (he's 80 now and still flexible.) But he is one of these rare exceptions. There are definitely genetic variables in flexibility and skeletal construction. Also, possibly Ochi's ability to be so flexible owes in part to him stretching every day, never missing a day, for 90 solid minutes.
