- These are some of the mistakes I made along the way in film photography that really held me back. Realising that a lot of the noise doesn't matter at all can really help you to focus on the stuff that does matter!
I think your point about editing your pictures is key. I'm happy with my lab. They do a good job, but I don't care much about the scans. The important thing is that I get my negatives back so that I can save and scan them myself. The labs scans are just a preview to me.
The single worst mistake modern film photographers make: scanning instead of printing. If I want to view and edit photos on my computer, then I shoot them with a digital camera and avoid all the hassle of bad quality scans
How do you print without scanning?
@@DevonMiniFlicks you can develope the old fasion way in the darkroom (that what he is talking about) or you could buy a printer and print.
@@Gulfmannen90 Develop colour prints at home!! Wow that would need some very expensive equipment and skill I don't think many people do that now days
@@DevonMiniFlicks B&W developing is not that expensive and complex. But you need to be lucky to find used things the the secound hand market.
@@Gulfmannen90 Yes you are correct but lots of people use colour film and they have little choice other than scanning and printing.
I Nikon FM and a 50 mm is one of the best combos out there! Great kit to start with and many use that today, myself included.
Absolutely! In context it’s very basic, like the K1000 etc. but I loved it and still love it! I’ve moved to the Nikon F100 for the AF but I think the FM, FE, FM2 etc are great. 👍
There are no mistakes. Only learning experiences.
I learned long ago that the most important part of the camera is the 12 inches behind the viewfinder.
Nice video. I fully agree with it. That its analog, doesent mean, that you cant edit it.
To save money in the long term, ive scanned my negatives by my self since 11 years. And every scanner has its advantages and disadvantages with certain film. So you cant scan it with default options, if you want best results.
Cost of the film cycle is keeping me from using my Olympus SP 35 and long with time to see the image files. I would like to experiment with different film brands. I might need to get a good scanner. For now, I'm using my Fuji digicam with various film simulations...
You mentioned books - anything you can recommend?
Try to develop and scan your own film. It's not hard and will open up avenue's of creativity that can't be had from lab developed film. You will zero in on your own processing methods which will help your work stand out from the rest who are all using the same labs. What you learn about developing processes will inform you camera work. It's a feedback loop! I've been shooting developing and printing from film non stop since 1971. I didn't wholly convert to digital and abandon film because digital didn't give me what I wanted.
Can I do it in my apartments bathtub?

I im nikon guy, but i also own alot of other brands. They all each there own, and i take that camera that inspires me that day. But you cant go wrong with a Nikkormat FTN

Agree.....change highlights and shadows and maybe add a little dynamics or even crop. If you are happy then great.....but at the end of the day it is subjective.....to a point. I like to know what inspired a photographer to take that photo. Was it emotion, a magic moment in time or was it a "I could take a great pic of this pile of old crates in a back alley" which would be meaningless to all but the photographer and a handful of pretentious art critics? Food for thought. By the way, what does "messing with your funk" mean?
