I live in Canada and have the Nanuk 935. Phenomenal case !! I believe Nanuk has a US warehouse and shipping is free for orders over $149.00 Nanuk also has various case sizes and colors.

The camera insert it comes with make it a much better value than pelican.

Hi Scott. Good info. Im just starting to carry large glass (Nikon 500 fl ed f4). Recently I used the soft Guru Gear Kiboko 3 liter for this lens, a z9 & d500 plus the 500 pf. I went to McAllenTX and had to fly on small planes such as the Embraer with much smaller bin storage. United wanted me to check it at the gate but ultimately if it fit, which it did, they were ok. Being a soft case it had more play. It definitely adds stress flying on these smaller planes. Even on the 737 I wasn’t able to put my bags above my seat. So a hard case may be mandatory soon if we are forced to check in more often.

If your plane crashes in a shallow body of water they may be able to recover your camera case and your gear may still work. This is very reassuring.

trouble is that very often internal flights really screw one on the weight limits. I've come across as littee at 5kg! while I find 7-10kg is the average. International is very different, with business class offering on average 23kg. I have the Peli 1535 Air with the inserts, but I'be never been able top take it !

I swam with a Pelican case in the ocean... I was alone, I didn't want to leave my camera on the beach and I wanted to go swimming, so a rope attached to the handle and around my wrist allowed me to swim normally without fear 🤷

If you are pressing the case to close most likely the foam is getting pressured and any chock the case suffer will pass to the gear as the foam will have less effect to absorb it.

Not sure I would put my long lens attached to the body in the case for all the tossing around, foe it could affect the mount. I have three Pelican cases and all work great!!

Have you ever gotten in a situation where they say you can't take on anything. Must be checked. I carry 2 bags on. One soft and one hard. Works for me.

Sorry Buddy, just don’t understand the point. If I was checking a bag in… definitely a good hard case ( because we know how they treat luggage ). For carry on, well, I’m the only one handling the luggage. Why lose the volume by switching to hard case. I’ll hard case my check in, but soft case my carry on for maximum capacity.

One of the problems we've run into more and more, especially on the more exclusive airlines like Qatar, is they are getting super strict about weight of carry on, so they weigh the case and contents and if its' over you have to check it. Even in these cases I'm not checking in. Soon we'll be forced to fly business class with large glass even domestic I think.

You appear to be using force to close both the Pelican 1510 and the Pelican Vault V525. Won't the pressure harm the camera and glass stored therein?

This was likely the lens hood, not the camera itself...... this is one of the largest diameter hoods

Do you travel with a fluid head, that Leofoto bv-20 is staying home next time, way heavy.

I don't usually take it! Or I'd see if I can get it in a suitcase and check it.
