  • Thousands have marched in Brazil against increasing attacks against religious minorities, two weeks before a heated election. Polls have largely shown that right-wing President Jair Bolsonaro is trailing behind his rival, former left-wing President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Bolsonaro has run a divisive campaign and has questioned whether the electoral process is flawed.

Now are you going to talk about Qatar, Aljazeera? Qatar is just a very wealthy country, an absolutist and hereditary emirate ruled by the House of Thani since the mid-19th century. The most important positions in the country are held by members or groups close to the al-Thani family.
A Muslim country that applies Sharia.
Sharia is the main source of the country's legislation under the Qatari Constitution. In practice, the legal system is a mixture of civil law and Islamic law.
Sharia law is applied in cases concerning family law, inheritance and various criminal acts (such as adultery, theft and murder). In some cases Sharia-based family courts consider a woman's testimony to be worth half that of a man, or they do not accept it at all. As a matter of fact, women are treated as objects, property of parents and then husband.
Islamic polygamy is allowed in the country for men.
Flogging is used in the country as a punishment for drinking alcohol or for illicit sexual intercourse.
Article 88 of the Qatari penal code states the punishment that adultery is punishable by one hundred lashes. A Filipino woman was sentenced to 100 lashes for adultery.
From 2010 to the present day more than 100 people, men and women, mostly foreigners, have been sentenced to flogging (between 40 and 100 lashes) for offenses related to "illicit sexual relations" or alcohol consumption.
Another form of legal punishment is stoning. Apostasy is a crime punishable by death in Qatar. Blasphemy is punishable by up to seven years in prison, while proselytizing of any religion other than Islam can be punished by up to 10 years in prison.
Homosexual relationships are also punishable by death.
Female tourists are advised not to wear leggings, miniskirts, sleeveless dresses and short or tight clothing in public. Men are advised against wearing only shorts and undershirts.
In a country like this, the requirement for a gynecological examination as reported by the press is not surprising. It causes indignation, like almost everything that is affection for women who live under a feudal, tyrannical and boçal regime.

There should be religious tolerance in Islamic countries.
They all should become secular countries and allow all religions to practice.
They should build Synagogues, Churches Temples, Fire Temples, Buddha Vihar, Jain Temples in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and 53 other Muslim countries.

    • @hellothere1656

The situation in Brazil isn't even remotely comparable to Muslim countries not having Jain temples or whatever. Plenty of Muslim countries have churches in them, and those other faiths you mentioned are more comcentrated in different geographical areas. For example, Jainism in the area of the Indian subcontinent, and Buddhism in more eastern regions. Saying that Islamic countries are intolerant because they aren't building temples for religions that aren't widely practiced within them is stupid. It makes you look pretty intolerant.

Saudi Arabia is the birthplace of Islam. not an exact comparison for brazil. Secularism never guarantees freedom of religion, here we are in Indonesia even though we are not a secular country, but we have a stronger religious tolerance than so called secular India.

To disagree with someone's belief, philosophy, policy, is not to be intolerant.
Most Brazilians do not care about these African-based religions. So much so that they are practiced by about 3-4% of the population. It is a minority religion that arouses little interest. They suffered some attacks from drug dealers and the media made a huge proportion of this by giving the image that everyone in Brazil hates these religions. Most Brazilians don't care. In my opinion, of course! In my day-to-day experience in Brazil. Until today I have not seen anyone in Brazil being arrested, persecuted, physically attacked for their faith. Of course, some Christians have intolerance, who verbally offend other religions, but this comes from ignorance and a minority.

What are you talking about? most brazilians do care! You're talking about a country where people vote for polititians based solely on religious agenda, recently the first lady called candomblé practitioners demoniac in her public social media. Many Christians are intolerant here (specially evangelicals), and they are not ignorant at all, they know exactly what they are doing and will proudly say to your face that people of those religions worship demons and must be converted to christianism. You are clearly out of touch with reality.
