    After watching this, I feel that the most proper comparison of what QD OLED brings to the table will be the A80k vs the A95k. Same processing, just different panel and a heatsink that's not really being used. That's when we'll see the advantages of QD OLED vs WOLED. It appears that WOLED has set such a high bar and the upgrades are smaller than we'd think without artificially bumping brightness up. Times have changed from when Quantum Dots came out in 2013 and simply looked night and day better than LEDs without them.
    And to everyone here, run and watch Top Gun Maverick - you're welcome!

    Watched this on my 5K 27 inch iMac in full screen and the A80K comes out as most natural picture of the two. Samsung color looks a bit cartoony but the Sony is always natural and easy on the eye. Just need to take a look at the Sony A95K before I make a final decision but right now the 77 A80K is at top of my list. You are doing such a great job this year working with value electronics to make choosing a new TV a pleasant and exciting process.

      If you can, check out the S95B on Filmmaker mode on Firmware 1211.2, it will look completely different and is more accurate than the A80K and A95K on Filmmaker mode believe it or not. No cartoony colors as people say and is very very natural looking (not just my opinion, see what Vincent at HDTV Test and others said after the Firmware update). This is why we’re hearing a different tune about the S95B now. This comparison doesn’t show that with the update, so we’re only seeing “old issues” here.

    A80K versus A90J would have been more interesting to be honest, do you feel the new EVO EX panel makes a huge impact compared to last year's Sony models ? The A90J still has the Heatsink so it would have been interesting to see if it still gets brighter.

    Hey Brian, few questions. I have a C9, bought in early 2020, awesome TV but I miss very impressive (HDR) brightness and the S95B seems to be what I need. However I was told that if I really want crazy peak brightness I need QN95a or QN90B. But I would be going from OLED to a tech that apparently STILL has blooming and Shadow detail becoming grey. Is that true or can a OLED owner go for that tech too? Plus how significant is the brightness difference between that and S95B?
    Also, Digital Trends says the S95B is a bit of a hassle to setup for console gaming. Often had washed out picture because of how DTM can't be disabled, and this is while the Xbox expects the TV not to interfere when you use the HDR calibrator thing on it. Did you have this too?

    I feel like the WRGBs always push too blue even when their white point is dialed in. The S95B has a nice neutral white like an LCD. 13:11 Some may like the A80ks colors more due the temperature but look at the hills on the S95B, its looks like there are way more types of green in the scene that are just missing on the A80k.

    I love sharpness and seeing details. LG doesn't givr me that, Samsung is a bit better, but you can't mess with Sony here. Regarding colors, Sony sometimes seems to be too cold (blue) when showing white and Samsung sometimes seems to be too warm (red). I think I will wait another year and hope for a A80L in 77 inch having a second gen QD OLED display... 😎

Except at 8:30 not sure what happened with the samsung picture it dimmed or something. But like you said it depends on the scene your viewing. I cant fit a 55 inch on my living space im probaly gonna wait till black friday and pray the a90k hits 1100$ maybe a 1000$ by a miracle but a 1000$ for the a90k would be a great deal but on some scenes the a80k has more accurate colors which do you prefer? oleds are amazing. Anyone thinking that the color and accuracy is off on the S95B needs to see Filmmaker mode on Firmware 1211.2. That will completely change this comparison as it’s more accurate than the A80K or A95K (again in Filmmaker mode). Also the S95B is so bright, it looks blown out and etc on camera vs the A80K having a capped nits presentation at or under 1,000 nits in virtually any mode. You can still get the crazy colors on the S95B in other modes, but clearly this is just an OOTB comparison with no Firmware updates and etc.

    Can I just say that grey exists in the real world. Neutral grey either in the shadows or highlights. That is what gives an image photorealism. The Samsung appears to be unable to deliver a neutral grey. Highlights have a warm yellow tint and shadows have a similar warmth. Elephants are yellow. This warmth might be what you want but I think such colour casts should be used sparingly by the artist, not permanently on everything displayed on the TV. Sony win here. Colour when colour is required. Neutral grey when light purity is an asset. There are also very few 100% blacks in the real world due to bounce light, so I'm not all in on this inky black trend.

    I'd like one of those fancy reference monitors and see if both TVs can be calibrated to look as close to reference as possible. In isolation, both TVs will look great, but compared to each other, it's really hard to tell which image is more accurate to real life. Does snow usually look a little blue? or does it look blue because of the direct comparison to the Samsung that looks pinkish? or is the Samsung actually more accurate and just looks pinkish because it's next to the Sony's more blue hue and vice versa. They each have their own color projection and heck if I can tell which is more accurate to real life.

  • @kadajawi6567
    @kadajawi6567 2 года назад

    I sort of disagree with updates changing image quality. Yes, for reviewers it sucks, for consumers it might, sometimes, too (makes it harder to research), however for me these updates that change the picture are what turned the TV from something I would not touch into something I might actually buy. Now if they added DV and gave us a way to completely defeat their optimization algorithms... (i.e. if I turn it off, it should be OFF and not sort of on... if I wanted it to be sort of on, I would select that setting!).
    Now I do think that Samsung should give users the option to keep the old presets if they like it. So there could be a Filmmaker enhanced or Filmmaker plus that is essentially the old Filmmaker mode, before it was accurate.
    I'm looking forward to the A95K... maybe it's a S95B done right. Not a fan of the price tag though. I wish there was a cheaper variant that just did without any speakers (well, any that cost more than a few cents) or smart TV functionality, as those things I don't care about at all.
    Also, I kind of like that Samsung messed up so bad in the beginning, cause that's causing the price to drop harder than it should (IMHO IF you are willing to spend this much on a TV, then you're probably a bit of a purist. As such, the S95B was junk in the beginning.) Now that it is fixed and people are finding out I am afraid the price will go up again... not sure if I should just pick one up now, or not. I feel like people are holding out to see how the A95K will perform... if it is significantly better, then the S95B will drop in price, if the increase is just slight or it's even worse, then the S95B will become hot. I'm in the same camp... S95B or A95K... or just stick with the old plasma, cause it is still very, very hard to beat (LG OLED panels can't).
