"This was, sort of, stepping out of our spacesuit and coming down to Earth and putting on a pair of Osh Kosh and digging the furrows ... we would have to bring the music in, to support the texts: Hunter's Holy Grail" - Mickey Hart
The three-CD set featuring the original album with newly remastered sound, plus an unreleased complete concert recorded on February 21, 1971 at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY.
The show was mixed from the 16-track analog master tapes by Jeffrey Norman at Bob Weir’s Marin County TRI Studios and mastered by Grammy® Award-winning engineer, David Glasser, along with restoration and speed correction by Plangent Processes.
If it's vinyl you're after, the WORKINGMAN’S DEAD: 50th ANNIVERSARY VINYL PICTURE DISC, limited to 10K, and Dead.net exclusive colored vinyl has just 2000 copies available. Both feature the newly remastered version of the original album.

Today is 29 years since Jerry left this world. What I want to know is where does the time go?
That was one of the few days San Francisco stopped in its tracks. Jerry Gone? We couldn't fathom it. People literally stopped and stared at the newspaper racks, blocked the entrances to MUNI. You could hear a pin drop on Haight street.
That weekend the Dead came to the park and played a send off for Jerry worthy of the gods. RIP Jerry, and thanks Joel for bringing back that memory.
This was my dads favorite song. I remember as a little kid when he would blast this in the car and roll down the windows. Yelling every lyric. There's no other dead song that makes me cry. Love you dad
so sweet
Such great time travel song...
It's Cherry 🍒
I wonder if Bob Weir and Joni Mitchell ever made love together. Please don't get me wrong-----No voyeur here, it's just that it's a beautiful notion.
long live Jerry Garcia 😥😭
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This song is perfect for the beginning of the slacker. Before drugs 💊💉more humans worked & after drugs 🛌less worked. The working man truly died in the mid 60's .😀😆
Am as stunned tonight listening to this as I was the first time as a 12 yr old in 1970. Deadhead for life!
My all-time favorite Dead song. Hard to choose from so many great songs.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Both my favorite song and favorite album of theirs
There's no denying the clarity and definition, the separation of instruments and vocals are a joy to listen to.God , how I love this music.
Precisely! I’m on public transit at the moment and listening for the first time with Bluetooth earmuffs. 😂 First thing I noticed was the separation and clarity. After listening hundreds of times before. (~):}
One of my favorite Dead stories, as best as I can recall it:
When sessions for "Workingman's Dead" began, the band wasn't very confident that it could do a good job with the vocal harmonies. As it happened, Crosby, Stills, and Nash were also in the studio, starting work on what would be their second album (which turned out to be the great "Deja Vu" album) . They knew that the Dead were nearby, and one of the guys went to Jerry to ask if he'd be willing to play Pedal Steel guitar on their new album.
Jerry - affable as always - quickly agreed to do the track, and asked if CSNY would, in exchange, do the Dead a good deed by helping them to work out the vocal harmonies.
I suppose that neither one of those seminal albums would have been the same without those collaborations! Ah, the good old days!
The remastering is so clear that you can hear someone in the band breathing at the start of the song!
Such a great song, yet still there are negative comments.
One of my three favorite Dead songs. And I like the remastering they've done!
Robert Hunter is pictured with the gang on the album cover. He later decided to not appear in band photos because he wanted to "own his face" and not be recognized wherever he went in public.
Timeless !
goddamn do I declare!
Love... this song always fills my heart...
Beautiful....
Oh ho, what I want to know is, are you kind???
The hippie stoner masterpiece, highlighted by those Dead harmonies, that dovetails into Jerry Garcia's living of folk and country and western music which has always routed through him.
I only regret I was born too late to see so many of the greats. I wasn’t even 10 when Jerry Garcia was taken from us. But I’ve been a Deadhead since birth. My sons 17 and now a deadhead too
I would say less stoner more acidhead
I was about 15 years old and had previously learned this song from the album, and there was a small group of my musician friends and I hanging out in the Mt Diablo foothills, so I busted out the guitar and played/sang the tune. None of them had ever heard it before because the Dead wasn't really their thing, but they went apeshit. They thought I was going to be a big star before I even turned 18! Haha! But I had to tell everyone the sad news that I had not written it and it was from the great minds of Garcia and Hunter, et al. We all laughed but just for those few fleeting moments I had my brush with greatness. What a song and what a band. I miss Jerry a great deal. I'd pay a lot of money to go back to those days.
Holy freaking s***, I can't believe there's not more likes and comments on this video!;; what's wrong with people these days, I don't have to lift a finger to type 100 words a minute, and people are chained to their keyboards. I USE VOICE TYPING
Well the first days are the hardest days, don't you worry any more
'Cause when life looks like easy street, there is danger at your door
Think this through with me, let me know your mind
Woah-oh, what I want to know, is are you kind?
It's a buck dancer's choice my friend better take my advice
You know all the rules by now and the fire from the ice
Will you come with me won't you come with me
Woah-oh, what I want to know, will you come with me?
Goddamn, well I declare, have you seen the like
Their wall are built of cannonballs, their motto is don't tread on me
Come hear Uncle John's Band playing to the tide
Come with me, or go alone, he's come to take his children home
It's the same story the crow told me; it's the only one he knows
Like the morning sun you come and like the wind you go
Ain't no time to hate, barely time to wait
Woah-oh, what I want to know, where does the time go?
I live in a silver mine and I call it "Beggar's Tomb"
I got me a violin and I beg you call the tune
Anybody's choice, I can hear your voice
Woah-oh, what I want to know, how does the song go
Come hear Uncle John's Band by the riverside
Got some things to talk about, here beside the rising tide
Come hear Uncle John's Band playing to the tide
Come on along, or go alone, he's come to take his children home
Woah-oh, what I want to know, how does the song go?
Come hear Uncle John's Band by the riverside
Got some things to talk about, here beside the rising tide
Come hear Uncle John's Band playing to the tide
Come on along, or go alone, he's come to take his children home

GOD FORCE ACTIVATED 🔥 🔥 🔥
Tis GOD FORCE indeed sir!!!!
Little guitar by Eric Clapton
Goddamn do I declare !! My motto is DONT TREAD ON ME!!! TRUMP MAGA 2024💀🌹🙏( I may be a dead head but I ain't no goddamn hippie!!!
🤮🤢🤮
Modern liberals are the exact opposite of the true hippie movement. Back in the day there were lots of lies in the MSM about hippies but the true hippie culture had nothing to do with politics. They were pro America, pro freedom, and the dead explored that more than any other band IMO
And was there a reason for you to bring politics into the comment section of a non-political RUclips video?
@@superthings1238 He stated MAGA - which means MORON, we all know.
❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
Kinda a terrible recording
I wish they would STOP remastering all these classic albums.. Leave it as it was intended..
Daveyboy It would be super easy for you to ignore the label trying to expand Grateful Dead’s audience to new listeners and meet new technological audio advances. You are also more than welcome to continue listening to the original master and avoid any remasters... there’s no need for the pointless negativity.
No one is making you listen to them are they?
I wish people would STOP hating on old music for being remastered. Go listen to the 1970 mix then.
This wasn't remixed. It was remastered. It's the same mix as 1970.
Not every remaster does the original master a disservice. This one sounded as alive as the original. It's not an over compressed remaster, like I've heard other labels release in the past...
Will you Come sleep in Uncle John’s bed!?
