Thank you for all the support and kind words. After 6 months, I am just starting to get over imposter syndrome and a return of my breath. Onwards and forward to the next chapter. Enjoy the journey!

Great technique during the demo. So sticky on his back. Then while totally exhausted and fighting for oxygen he takes on that big black belt. The black belt was 2 steps ahead at every turn, he gave him some opportunities but he was just too tired to jump on them it seems. They made him earn it, and he did. Great job.
I'm a BB in BJJ and judo, but I get excited when a new Roy Dean video pops up on my thumbnail! Roy Dean is a classical individual, reflective with his students, manifested by their discipline. I felt sorry for the guy grading as his body is struggling for oxygen lol
Roy does such a beautiful job with these. When I saw the teaser come out previously I was eagerly awaiting this one and it did not disappoint. Congratz Abrie on Brown belt!
Congratulations to Abrie Kilian, for this inspiring and overcoming demonstration. Only those who train know the value of each degree, each injury, each belt, I feel blessed to see your promotion that drives me to continue. Congratulations also to Sensei Roy's great work, for his respect for students, appreciation for graduation in BJJ and dissemination of the gentle art. God bless them!
Congratulations few years back saw your blue belt test found it very inspiring as an upcoming practitioner. Now to see you have reached this level its awesome. Oss
Roy the jiu jitsu you teach is simply amazing...I wish I could be your student...such a shame I was born in Brazil. Your students know the techniques, it´s so beautiful and smooth to watch...I wish I had schools in Rio de Janeiro with this philosophy. Congrats..you're awesome!!!
Someone from Brazil wishing they were somewhere else to learn BJJ. Things I never thought I’d see lol Meanwhile I only have 2 BJJ schools within an hour of my house lol
He is not trolling. He is saying that the way Roy teaches is different. Roy has a pedagogical plan. That's the reason for it. Not just going there and rolling.
What a stunning display. Incredible perseverance and dedication even at high attitude. I can't imagine the stick sluggy muscle feeling he was going through the whole time from the limited oxygen. Thank you for sharing a small piece of an amazing day. 🎉

Congratulations on your promotion Abrie, your techniques section reminded me though of why I wish more BJJ practitioners did throws, judo type or otherwise. Excellent, precise execution. Well done!
Fantastic Grading Abrie. Great to see the journey and Embrace the Grind. Congratulations. Nice to see the Hanami Gi going strong. Maybe we get to roll in Canada one day too. Hayden Zwart
Absolutely love these videos. Inspires me to not only go do jiu jitsu, but to roll and drill with the absolute best of my abilities and clean technique in mind
I dare anyone watching Professor Roy, see how many times he has less than three balance points on the ground. Count! I bet you will struggle to find him (outside of standing) without proper balance.
I don't know what it's called, but basically he initiated an escape from half-guard, switched to a half-guard sweep, elevated the trapped leg, grabbed the free leg, pushed him over to that side, then did a berimbolo from the top. Not sure if I explained that well, but I hope that helps.
@@GrapplingAutist I'm guessing they make some exceptions in places like Wyoming where there aren't a lot of BJJ practitioners. Gotta spread the art somehow.
Zero disrespect meant by this but I thought the heel hooks were cranked on a bit for a demonstration Also thought he struggled with the blue belt Only my opinion though
Thank you, Jay, for your comment. No disrespect is implied. I did struggle against Nick, as he is an absolute martial artist. (3rd degree Judoka) In fact, it was Nick who gave me a black eye earlier that week. He was awarded his purple belt about a month later and it was well deserved. Enjoy the journey.
There are two variations: plain red (for assistant instructors) and red with white borders (for head instructors). However, this distinction is rarely enforced or regulated. The rRed bar would also refer to independent club ownership.

Roy Dean makes a jiu-jitsu video look and feel like a car commercial.
purple belt. there is no substitute.
😁When Roy Harris gives it back to him it’s amazing, knowing how good Roy dean is👌

I give this credit ! That whole thing was a battle and a half!
Heel hooks in the gi.... perfection!
Don’t be too concerned. I like heel hooks in the gi. The guys in this video have smooth and effective Jiujitsu. It’s good to watch.
These crucible videos are so beautiful and well done. It makes me emotional watching these. Jiujitsu is so hard and humbling.

I felt his fatigue through the screen, so good on him being able to complete the test. Would never have gone for a double being that tired though.
Roy Dean and his students have such a sophisticated jujitsu language.
Roy Dean I want to say thank you for improving my game sincerely 🙏🏽

Bruh- the damn music making me feel all kinds of ways. Beautiful art. Beautiful edit. Ossss
He kept fighting. Very inspiring
That blue belt was awesome. He wasn't ready for that heel hook in the GI, but he was dominating
Yeah, how do they allow that? Maybe if he had like 3 or 4 stripes....
It seems like no matter the belt collar, Roy Dean students are all black belts at heart. Totally amazing.
Love Roy's light and floating style of passing and the fact that he'll apply pressure when needed. Best of both worlds!
Always very humbling to watch. Ballet on the mats and a solemn occasion.
Congrats brown belt. 🥋

such art, an amazing martial art. Congratulations, Abrie Kilian.

Beautiful demonstration! Congratulations Abrie Kilian, OSS!
Another great video Roy!
Congratulations on the promotion! Heel hooking white-belts in the gi, where do I sign up?😋
😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂
I think he only heel hooked the blue belt outside of the demo.
@@kommisar.During the takedown portion the uke was a white belt.
@@jaredmackey4511 It was for a demo though. That's very different than doing it during sparring.

Awesome job my brother!
This was a blessing to watch…you’ve earned my follow brother in Christ 🕊️🤍✨
Congratulations brother! ❤
congratulations, did awesome
I just got my purple belt last month, was cool ,now digging in deeper, lots to learn, stay strong 💪.
What an exam! So structuted! Honestly, more like Judo and less like the typical BJJ system.
I wonder if it's expected that the "10 move combination" would have to be different at Black Belt for the same person?
The white belt deserves his blue for having to endure all that from a purple belt 😂

He got it last November. He's a good man.
Even the taps sound majestic here

Awesome
ive never seen such dramatic mat slapping before, and im no newbie to bjj
The judo subfloor enhanced the slapping, unfortunately. Kind regards.
is heel hooking in the Gi allowed at your school? seems like a lot of your students do it in demos/tests

Yes bruuu

Is this your lineage of BJJ? I thought there were no formal tests in most BJJ schools? Is this more common than I thought?
He tapped out Prof Dean! 😅 N

Imagine how good his pressure is if he can tap you by makura kesa gatame.
Great video. Whats with the red band around the belt? Isn't that reserved for black belts? Or is it somewhere specific to Roy's students?
Perhaps a teacher?
Just guessing but it probably indicates that he owns and runs his own gym.
Red bar denotes a head instructor of a gym. Some lineages do it, some don't.
@dillonzolkavich7619 Makes sense. That's the first time I've seen a red band on someone who wasn't a black belt.
