@@lesbubka I sincerely appreciate that. I follow your channel as well and all the amazing work you do, including the Karate for Mental Health. I have to read Anxious Black Belt.
This has been one of the best interviews with Iain Abernethy that I have had the pleasure of listening to, kudos Martial Way, very great content, a lot of great information was shared here.
Nice and thoughtful discussion, loved listening to it.👍 Just a small note, bunkai means disassembly, not analysis 🙂 I think there's a distinction there.
I give credit to Abernathy, and his approach to pragmatic karate. Myself i value kata and the search for the intended application. The value in such a discovery allows us to critique what has come before, grow from the knowledge that has been left for us in kata. The isues i see in the world is the exeptence that the intended applications are hidden from us, and that even if we did find them how would we know they were the intended applications. What i want to get to is where we can create new karate kata with the methods of the old kata. To pass on new information. I want to search for what the old masters were searching for and to do that i need to get to where they got to. I am on a search for intended applications, but who else is.

What do you get when you take kata out of karate, answer you get kickboxing just go learn kickboxing people you cannot learn what you do not understand THE END.
Kata deals with more than punching and kicking, it’s also a great way to train solo skills, anyone who doesn’t understand them should watch some of Iain’s training videos.
Spot on mate, understand the kata and train them the way they were intended, nothing wrong with doing them for historical or competitions but understand the difference.

MMA ruined traditional martial arts.
