My first encounter with a BTS was on my way to a friends house as a kid, I was riding my bike and noticed something chilling in the mesh fence on the side of the path I was riding down; as I got closer I realised it was a blue tongue lizard, and I got close enough to touch it before that thing jumped off the fence and piss bolted faster than I've ever seen a lizard move like, ever. Anyway... I'm delighted to inform you through watching all your videos, I've made my decision to get a northern bluey to be my second reptile - my first being a rescue childrens python. It will be a little while before I have everything set up for him... but honestly, living where I do in the NT? setting up a good enclosure for them is more expensive than the actual animal, which is roughly $100 from my local breeder. I also have a wild one that lives under the fridge outside, and working at a pet supply store I occasionally grab some short dated stock of superworms ect. It's got to the point where I can hold one in my fingers and you'll see his little tongue and snout pop out while he sniffs it... and he very, very gently takes it from my fingers and wiggles back underneath the fridge LOL.
In Australia we call them Blue Tongue Lizards not skinks. A skink in common Australian parlance is a much smaller lizard. Between the ages of 8-11 I handled over 12 wild blue tongues and was never bitten. They hiss and wiggle for a few minutes then relax and take to being held.
Any videos on Mites? Not sure if I have wood mites which I know are harmless to Draks the Destroyer thats my northern blues name. Or if they are actually parasitic mites. No other reptiles in my home so must have came from the pet store.
I don’t have a video on it yet. Reptile mites are black, they are like little round specs of pepper. Wood mites are typically red or white. When you smush a reptile mite that has been feeding it will have blood in it. The skinks scales will be raised up in places like when a dog’s fur gets ruffled.
I know this is kinda old but, I’m doing research to see if I can get a Indonesian blue tongued skink. Would this be a sufficient diet? Grain free dog food Carrots Watercress Bell peppers Berries (ie blueberries, raspberries) Banana This dose not include the calcium multivitamin supplements.
Yes, they need clean water at all times. Some people want to put "fresh" water in everyday but their definition of fresh water is sterile water which doesn't really exist in the wild per say so I usually will change any visibly dirty water immediately and put new "fresh" water in every other day or weekly at minimum if it hasn't been soiled. Biofilm (bacteria) can form so even if the dish is poured out and refilled it needs to be disinfected first. I just replace the bowl with new as I use recyclable deli cups. And yes, some substrates can be replaced sooner than quarterly. I replace top soil and aspen chips every 6 weeks or so. I replace sphagnum moss ever month if possible as it just seems to feel dirty to me. Bioactive substrates are a different story though. They really need to be in place for a long time to be effective.
Great video, TC. I just picked up the F10, but bought the bottle that is already diluted. Cost a bit more, but I'll be trying it out this coming weekend in place of bleach . Do you think that F10 is as good as bleach? I too take everything out of the enclosure 4x a year. I really sift through her entire enclosure only on the days that the feces is not visible. 90% of the time, Snowy has gone in one of two places. Such a tidy little skinker. :-)
I hope you like the F10. I liked it better than bleach because it is safer once dry. I wish my skinks were tidy like snowy. I have one that is but the rest either burry their poop like a cat or slide through it like a slip-n-slide. Lol crazy little dinos.
Did your channel is Awsome could you check out my last few videos of my bluetongue I'm still wondering if he is meruke or tiligus gigas GIGAS hes only a year so I can't tell by size
As a new owner, your advice (that they're hardy) is soooo reassuring!
Hello your How to videos have taught me soo much I hope I can a skink in the future!
I hope I can get one too
I have been researching them for about a month and next year I am gonna get one

How wonderful! I'm excited for you. Thanks for watching and sharing those fun stories! :)
Chargrilled awwww that skink hiding under the pride sounds so cute 💖💖
Holy crap the longest comment ive ever seen
Why not use apple cider vinegar to kill bacteria? The good diy stuff?
Vinegar doesn’t kill all bacteria.

do they eat everday or 2x a week
1-2 x wk
What kind of heating bulb are you using and watt?
I currently use 39watt PAR20 halogen bulbs
Great video
I am completely in love with the blue tongued skinks, but since I live in Sweden, it's a bit hard to find any breeders...
I can imagine that is true.
I’ll just keep looking until I find one!
Same in Latvia (from the Baltics) :(
Come to Hamm
Same bro. I found one that sells for roughly a thousand dollars.... I’m tempted to get one though...
What sizes are the tubs
3ft x2ft
Where would I find these ?
Ace hardware
How much do they poop?????
As much as you feed them. Every few days to once a week.
Where do you get the tubs you keep some of them in? Would you suggest using them over traditional terrariums?
Ace hardware. I don’t necessarily recommend one over the other. They both serve the same purpose in different ways. 😊

good keeping protocols! i do similar things
Thanks Coop!
Great video!!!
Thanks!!
For lighting do you put a UVB bulb in or could you use a normal bulb
+Paintball SKILLZ just for light a normal bulb works
distilled water? so no minerals?
No, I misspoke. I meant to say dechlorinated. Good catch 👍🏼
How many times do u feed the blue tongue skunk each week
+Brayden Green babies daily, a few months old 3-4 times, subadults 2-3, adults 1-2.
Thank you
@@ReptileMountainTV how much should I feed it, just to start? I can always raise or lower the serving size depending on the animal’s weight
What is the wooden rack called and the tubs I would love to buy it
I have a video on how to build it
loved it
Billy Trim Thanks man appreciate it

Grain free dog food
Carrots
Watercress
Bell peppers

Banana
This dose not include the calcium multivitamin supplements.
Sounds pretty solid. I would add some leafy greens that are high in calcium. There is a list on my desktop view care guides.
ReptileMountain.TV okay thank you. I added kale to the list. Would that be enough?
Dog food is bad for their livers!!!
@@petermccaffrey5898 skinks thrive on a wet dog food diet. As long as it’s not kibble and it’s grain free wet food your good
@@petermccaffrey5898
Premium dog food and cat food. A lot of dig and cat food are bad for cats and dogs, lol.
awesome
Thanks!
Can you do a video of Corentine a animal and things to pay attention for

Does water not need doing daily? would you say the quarterly cleaning depends on which substrate is being used?

thanks TC makes sence. ill stick to changing when feeding so as not to disturbe too much and check for poops. i do everyday anyway.

That is humid it is 6% in monsoon

You have an Indonesian (Tiliqua gigas gigas). Be sure to keep the humidity above 60% (80% is best).
