Minor correction: on the boss, there is an instant mode down IF AND ONLY IF one of your bases gets hit. Otherwise a missed missile just adds to the mode down meter as normal. (I've found the trick with the boss is to remember the patterns, and be prepared-remember on wave three, for instance, that the first beat will come from the side.)
been playing this game since it came out and still play it all the time. This is the best level. There are 2 notes that I almost ALWAYS miss and don't know what I'm doing wrong. Other than that I get perfect. Everyone is always astonished cause of how hard it looks. Just takes practice
Man, I really wish there was someway to download just the little checkpoint jingles for each level, those always sound awesome and would be great alert/message sounds on a computer or cell phone.
I actually spent an hour looking for something that could map the arrow keys to arrows+space before I remembered I had a USB controller. All I could find was complicated macro software that I didn't understand. There probably is a way, but I don't know how to do it.
The gameplay always felt like they were supposed to be just directions with no firing. I assumed they make you fire to prevent you from spamming the d-pad at the harder parts. it really does make the game more fun, and I still have trouble on harder difficulties so it doesn't break the game or anything. Thanks for your speedy replies by the way, including the one about how the music doesn't advance if you don't get all the glowing squares. I wasn't aware of that. :D
Some beats have multiple chances of getting hit. When one of the "bases" gets hit, it counts as multiple misses. Losing all 6 won't always cause Game Over. Sometimes, missed beats explode away from the "bases."
This is from the wii version. The PC version is kind of unfortunate because you really can't beat a d-pad from a nintendo controller, so honestly your best bet is connecting a wii remote via bluetooth or a usb SNES adapter or something.
i'd barely call that cheating because the developers themselves have said that they wish they had made the controls just directions with no firing. i personally use a 360 controller on the pc version but you should probably get one with a decent d-pad because otherwise it's miserable.
what do you think the flashing rainbow beats are, really? if you miss one it seems to rewind and doesn't progress the music or background, and it could have some symbolic meaning, but i'm stumped
If you download joy2key, you can rig the d-pad of a usb controller to the arrow keys on your keyboard, then any button on the controller to space. If you want to be a dirty cheater, you can set the d-pad to "directional arrow + space" so you only have to press the direction. I'm a dirty cheater. :(
Sometimes when I play this level, the music doesn't change at the fourth part. I always notice because those very first pixels (dancing yellow ones) match up with the music change perfectly and it's my favorite part of the level, so if it doesn't change it throws me off.. Does anyone know why this is? Is it a glitch, random, or is it based off how well you're doing on the level?
Man, I'm trying really hard, but those parts where you have to change directions quickly always get me. What controller are you using? Because clearly, the keyboard doesn't quite cut it. Or I'm just bad, that's always an option.
when you say this is the part where things get fun, do you mean fun in the sense of you just set you friend who rages alot up on the hardest difficulty of a game and its fun to see their reaction?
Core was my least favourite out of the saga. Probably because I suck at it but y’know. I loved the soundtrack for core so much though! Edit (March 2021): Now BEAT's my least favourite.
If you still care enough to read this, it can be used to destroy all the beats shown on the screen, but it can only be used once throughout the entire level.
I am a huge fan of the bit.trip series
@Luigistudios45 Essentially, yes.
The boss is based off the old arcade game Missile Command.
Presumably, the orange things are 'cities'.
I still jam out to this! Love rhythm games, but that looks fuckin difficult
I feel like my heartbeat is synced up with the music
Damn, I don't know how you manage to remember all of those patterns
This game is brutal. You wrecked those bit squares!
So so skilled.
i love bit trip
The water flowing noises in the background of the music remind me of old DDR max songs

The boss is insane !

Exploration is based off Growth, They share the same tempo and go together beautifully.
Hey, you're right!
Michael Ryan I just modded BEAT's third level to sound more like EXPLORATION.
... and i still suck at PONG
Michael Ryan Oh and DISCOVERY is based off TRANSITION by the way. CONTROL is the only original song.
wow you would never believe you could trip without some sort of drug but you can lol.

4:30 those beats remind me of Sonic Colors: Game Land
The music doesn't progress if you don't catch all the flashing beats at the end of a segment, otherwise I dunno
Your awesome the best gamer ever

hand-eye coordination like a boss... who wanna proof me that this doesn't affect real life? But yeah, it's just a game... just a game..
FUN~
pause at 0:59 the core glows blue!
You know the BOSS of this level i HATED it butt after 5 weeks of tryin i FINALY defeated the BOSS got that was SOOO imposible
+thys p Yaaa...Exploration is the hardest level in the whole BIT. TRIP.

My brother and I did co-op and made it to the last wave of the boss... but then lost. (LOL)
Tbh, I think CORE is my favourite, LOL.

I know this is a 4-year-old comment, but I'm pretty sure they're the end-of-section checkpoint. You need to hit them to end the section.

Is there a way to do that with my keyboard? I mean, for example by pushing the right cursor key it registers a 'right+space' command,
I just can't beat the boss on Normal. Just failed three times in a row. Wave 3 always gets me.

Anyway, In this game you won't get into Nether if you keep misfiring.
Nether like minecraft
Not necessarily.
eu tambem(i too)
when you say this is the part where things get fun, do you mean fun in the sense of you just set you friend who rages alot up on the hardest difficulty of a game and its fun to see their reaction?
Is it an instant game over if any of the cities are hit?
No
One Orange Structure Destroyed, Insant Mode Down.
U dere Miguel?
did you know this has co-op? I just found out. (LOL)
It does?
@@TheGoldNShadow it dose have co-op

Why does it look like the duration is 0:01?!
The Point-and-Fire makes the game stupidly hard in my opinion.
training not tryin
what's bomb?

Challenges on PS4 are really irritating.
this is impossible
