Technically it's a lathe, but more of a router jig. In fact, craftsman used to market a router jig just like this that would fit over their lathe. The router would follow a template allowing the operator to create duplicate spindles without knowing how to turn with chisels and gouges. In essence, an early form of CNC, but the human brain is the computer lol.
