Esteban Ocon, the long Frenchman, has one of the most impressive foundational stories on the current F1 grid. So today I thought it'd be a nice idea to fully explore his rags to riches story, and approach the sentiment that - a lot of people don't think he's particularly liked within the sport.

Looking at the stats behind Esteban’s career he appears to be criminally underrated. Beat Verstappen in 2014, comes within 13 points of Perez in 2017 and then dominates Sergio 16-5 in qualifying the next year. When he comes back after a year out of f1 he is put up against one of the best drivers in modern f1 who he slowly gets on pace with throughout the season and manages to score a p2.

    • @hoya1178

Yet Max felt he owned the track only because he was in p1 and proceeded to fully close the door on Esteban even though he was alongside him into turn 1. Furthermore I think Esteban handled the whole situatuon well where he acted very professionaly in the media after he was absolutely slammed by Verstappen fanboys and the press... unlike Verstappen who acted like an absolute clown and acted like a manchild.

I've spoken about this on other vids and platforms but I'll tell you why he got fired and when you look at it's not surprising.
Lets be honest his results weren't the best and for a constructors there progress has been shit. You sign a GP winning driver in Riciarrdo and in his first season you have multiple retirements and engine failure with the same engine he grew to hate at Red Bull. Partnered with a young talent in Esteban Ocon, your driver line up was solid and they seemed to be driving on form making minimal mistakes. Its not a driver issue. Since Renault decided to become a constructor, its been statically proven in the history of F1 that constructors have the most money and perform to the front. We all saw what happened with Mercedes taking advantage of this and decided to get on top of the new regs way faster than everyone else in terms of development. But we also saw what can happen with McLaren trying to be their own constructor with being the only team with Honda powered engines from Ron Dennis's call. McLaren went from being 3rd fastest to basically last. It's all a risk but not excusable. 2014 - 2021. 7 years. A couple podiums?!?! In that space of time Red Bull went to HONDA to ditch YOU!!!! And the results?
      Two words. Race. Wins.
Renault engines in the V8 era weren't known to be a fast engine anyways but was good enough for Red Bull to design a car around it to help in corners. 2021, Alonso coming in. The Espanians not gonna get any younger and expects to be challenging for championships ASAP. He (Cyril Abiteboul) failed and with the new factory and recourses hes developed and had , he only has so little to show for it. After watching "Drive to Survive Season 3" his so called "man management skills" with Riciardo was nothing short but embarrassing and unprofessional. The man genuinely looked like he wanted to cry over a a man simply objectively looking at better options since the first season went so badly with race retirements after race retirements after race retirements. Add also to his age to take into account to.
F1 is expensive. Force India were pretty much dying and were lucky to receive money from Lawrence Stroll and now went a step further and turned into Aston Martin. A constructor pretty much with a Mercedes engine. McLaren has now ditched you guys for - oh yeah a MERCEDES ENGINE!!!. You've just lost a customer and now your others competitors are leaving you in the mud.F1 would be less boring if dumb fuck heads new how to run teams and perform where they need to be. We should be getting top 2 teams each year fight it out and at best top 5 teams battle it out for the points paying positions Renault (Alpine) are a constructor like Ferrari and notice how everyone holds them accountable for a terrible 2020. Honestly. It's like watching a top Premiere League team like Arsenal be in the 14 - 9th position in the table when they should be top 6 minimum. When you put it like that you kind of don't feel sorry for the guy. lol

Great video ! Love it, the Formula 1 media didn't cover him well too. he's not like Norris, Russell, Ricciardo who get everything from the media and all the attention. Ricciardo got multiple video with his Renault podium. Sainz got video for his podium too, Norris with McLaren get dedicated video.
First podium of Esteban in Formula 1 ? Not a single video of him in official Media RUclips channel juste write "Ocon podium" on their channel. NOTHING. Every other driver get atleast 1 video...
Other drivers become famous in the media and again that's not the case of Ocon, but every fan who meet him on Grand Prix week end agree that he's always smiling and happy and very humble.
He don't deserve the hate ! Remember when dutch media insult him in Norris Interview "That french f***"
Formula 1 become a media war too... That's bad :/

I felt like it was not talked about as much as it should have been. i think part of the reason ppl dont seem to like him is in part the way he was portrayed in S1 of Drive to Survive then being away for a year then coming back and struggling a bit. also not being part of the twitch/meme generation of drivers haha. cheers!
