  • Hey Folks
While I was waiting for some other paint to dry, I undertook this little custom painting side project, hand lettering an old wood saw into a rest room sign for a friend of mine who curates a tattoo museum here in New Zealand.
Some folk have asked me why I paint on old wood saws. Well, it come about a few years ago when I wanted to paint a rat rod onto a rusty saw, which sent me off to find an old wood saw to paint the ratty onto. I came home with 3 or 4 old saws and painted up one of them with the rat rod painting. That left me with a few pare, so I did a bit of pinstriping and another car painting on the remaining saws. I posted some picture of the saws on my social media and got quite a strong response from friends, family and clients.
This started a snowball effect of folk asking for commissions to be painted of their own cars and motorbikes. After completing the first wave of commissions and posting pictures on social media, not only did the requests for more come in but also folk started gifting me old wood saws that had been gather dust in their sheds. As a result, I still have a bunch of old saws gathering dust in my shed now.... I don't really have time to do much with them at the moment. So now I just use them for little projects like this, which also saves me having to find, cut and prep some sort of sign board. Basically Laziness......................
Aside from all of the painted wood saw seem to have a place in the Tattoo/Hot Rod Kustom Kulture scenes.

This guy is Crazy Cakes! The raw talent is amazing that he can just make something out of nothing and make it look so easy like he is tying his shoes.

Good on ya Jim. Gold leaf supplies in the UK sell the Hanover brushes. I think they may do 1 shot enamel too. I haven’t done any airbrushing for a while, maybe I should.

@twistedthrottle8513 sweet man. Keep at it. I’m a sign writer by trade but haven’t worked in the industry for a very long time. But still like to keep my hand in it and drag a brush around from time to time.
