A fascinating subject, my next door neighbour worked with Alan Turing at Bletchley Park during WW2, she unfortunately passed away last year at the age of 99 but was a lovely lady with some truly wonderful stories

I lived in Syracuse for 24 years, and didn't know they made this! I found some more info On-line; 'Another interesting war product that L.C. Smith & Corona made was the M209 Hagelin cipher machine. Developed by Boris Hagelin of Sweden in 1940 for the U.S. Army, the M209 Hagelin was a portable, hand-cranked encoder that created coded messages. While not as robust as other encoding machines, the signal corps used the M209 Hagelin to create time-sensitive messages that were no longer necessary after a couple of hours. L.C. Smith & Corona made approximately 140,000 encoding machines under a license provided by the Hagelin Company before it was discontinued in 1962.'

Just read the post about the letter.
Reminds me of a friend of mine who has a personal letter to his mother from Field Marshal William Slim.
I thought that very cool and I'm sure he still has it.

Don't forget the weather ship Lauenburg, they captured newer codes and reels without which it would never had been broken.

I seem to recall reading that some. Countries in South America used the enigma machines right up to the early 1970s. That's why the "Ultra Secret" was kept a secret so long.
To change the subject a wee bit. I believe one of the reasons Rommel did so well in Africa was because he didn't follow orders. Hitler told him to attack somewhere, Monty would get the G2, reenforce that place and Rommel would attack elsewhere.
I believe after a while Monty lost faith in the Ultra G2, making it much easier for him to ignore the G2 regarding the SS panzers at Arnhem.
Just my thoughts on the matter for what little it's worth.
Back to the encoding machines you have. I think they're pretty darn cool. I would think any collector of military artifacts, WW2 especially, would be very proud to have one in his/her collection. It's not like something one sees every second or third day.
Just like almost all military collectables, I'm sure they'll only go up in value.
Again it behooves me to thank you for all your work bring history into our lives. A noble pursuit.

I actually know a fair bit about this machine. It doesn't work like the enigma at all. Unfortunately I can't describe its workings in a comment but there are resources online on how they work.

I went to Benicia California recently and in an antique shop called antiques on first there was a letter adressed to Herman goering from Ziegler SA brigadierFuhrer form 1938 about the four year plan for 350 dollars. I'm telling you this because this letter is probably underpriced and you can buy it and sell it for much more
