  • Little Mix - Black Magic - lyrics
    #1 Get Weird (2015)
“Black Magic” is Little Mix’s lead single from their third album, Get Weird. It compares a girl’s charm for a boy to spellcasting.
The single peaked at #1 on the UK Singles chart for three weeks, making Little Mix the first girl group to have a song with duplicate weeks on top since 2007. In October 2023, the official music video reached one billion views on RUclips, the first for Little Mix and the ninth video by a girl group to hit the milestone.
    Leigh-Anne:
"I don’t want to say “Black Magic” saved our career, because that sounds a little bit dramatic. But it definitely came out around a time we genuinely thought we were getting dropped by our label, put it that way. We’d scrapped a whole album and we were freaking out. And then [songwriter and artist] KAMILLE-our saviour, our angel-came and gave us “Black Magic”. Although it wasn’t completely instant in terms of us all loving it, if I’m honest. But I think we all knew deep down this was the song that was going to save everything"

    Jade:
"I remember when we first heard it, I wasn’t that sure about “Black Magic” because it was so pop-y. It was the first song that we hadn’t actively written on, and I think I felt a bit proud of the idea because it was such a thing for us as well to be seen as credible songwriters. So, to take this song and not have been a part of it all was a bitter pill for me to swallow, I suppose. But then the more we got into it, and once we recorded it and stuff, I was, like, “Yes!”

    KAMILLE:
"This song, actually, is a really naughty song. No one knows this, but a lot of the lyrics are quite sexual and I love doing that with Little Mix. I’d be putting super naughty lyrics into all their songs and y'all don’t even know! It was a real turnaround in their career. We had gone away and written like probably, I’d say about at least 50 songs, and they all didn’t feel right. And I felt like, “Oh my god, this is going to be over in a second, my whole career as a songwriter.” And then, I got back to London from being in LA and wrote “Black Magic” with Ed Drewett, and they loved it. And they edited it, changed it, made it theirs and this is what it is now"
