  • Greetings, you may have noticed I haven’t done a tutorial in a few weeks, this was because I got a COVID infection. However I’m now 100% and back with the tutorials.
This week’s song is I’ll Be Your Friend by Tarrus Riley from his first album “Challenges” produced by Dean Fraser.
Please click the link below to hear the original song and hear the bassline in context.

By any chance have you considered writing a book or online guide with some tabs? It would be great for us who haven’t memorized all the notes yet. 😎. Glad you are healthy.

Greetings I've been asked several times if I've ever considered writing a book and the answer is yes but I'm not ready yet. The tab system is good but it is very important for musicians to have very good memory. So I would suggest to exercise that part of the brain unless you don't intend to be a professional musician. Good Ear Good Memory and knowing your instrument is very important. Doesn't mean we can't work with Tabs. Is it possible that you're not hearing the notes well why you need tabs?

Can you please do a video on setting a good bass guitar tone?? i have a 6 string ibanez bass but i iam having a hard time getting the correct bass tone.

The first thing you want to do is put your amp on a flat positoin - all EQ on Zero. Now , you have 6 strings but you'd need to tell me what kind of pre amp you have in the bass or how many tone controls your bass has, because the first thing to know is the potential of the bass itself. Which means what tone you're getting from the instrument from the knobs/controls that you have. If you find a good sound just from the bass (not the amp), then now you can tweak the amp to increase the dynamic range to improve the sound you like. I'll be doing RUclips live in the future where I go over tone etc. so you can look out for that.
