      Honor wasn't necessarily a trait of the Starks. Ned inherited that through his fostering in the Vale by Jon Arryn. Before the conquest the Starks were the Kings of Winter, and they fought many wars against the houses that now serve as their bannermen. Winter is Coming was a threat, not a warning.

    • @willdoelol
      @willdoelol 6 месяцев назад +73

      @@timovangalen1589This. Although the importance of honour was important, it was not their utmost priority. These are hardened people born to live through hard times where any coming winter would mean the certain death for many of the Northerners. The Starks saw to it that their people had enough to be fed, by any means necessary

      And still, they made him to carry Ice the whole time, just to remind the dumbest who this is. Riddiculous.

    • @mergckv
      @mergckv 6 месяцев назад +67

      You don't know anything about the Starks
      1- Ned stark was more of an Arryn than a stark, it was Jon Arryn who raised him and raised him. Ned knew he wasn't a typical stark, his brother and sister were typical stark and he says they had wolf blood that's why they died early.
      2- Starks have great self-confidence and courage . Starks have ego, their honor comes from their ego, just like other northerners. We saw this best in GreatJon Umber in the series, so Starks act like Jon Umber. but the starks were more knowledgeable, intelligent and cultured than other northerners, they were winter kings before, they were architects, they united the whole north, they built the wall
      It is thought that the person who is thought to be the architect Brandon is not a single person, but actually a large generation, that is, many Starks were also architects as well as kings.
      3- Yes, the Starks keep their promises, but this does not mean that they are calm, never goes back on his word and silent like Ned. They were not idiots who would threaten the entire north for a southerner.
      Even Robert Baratheon was more of a Stark than Ned. Ned Stark already compared his elder brother to Robert Baratheon. Also Ned elder brother took Barbrey Dustin virginty. Its not honarable movement
      Additionally, the Starks despise Southerners due to their beliefs and culture.

      Funny thing is, it's not really the "fantasy Northman" thing at all. It's just Sean Bean's accent. He refused to have a more generic Brit accent and just spoke in his own native accent so they just made every Northerner speak like that. So one actor's refusal to have a pretend accent made sure that every actor who'll ever play a Northerner in this universe will have to, in perpetuity.

    The line "Do you think my ancestors built a 700 foot wall of ice to keep out snow and savages?" really hits home. If humans generations and generations before you all came together and built something like... they probably didn't do it for no good reason. There was definitely something horrifying north of the wall. Strange how characters seem to dismiss it. I understood that's intentional, for dramatic purposes from a writing perspective. But still. That line was perfect.

      They all knew what it was but the knowledge faded overtime, with war, famine, lack of literacy history can disappear very quickly. And In a time period past the high of magic, it was out of fear of the unknown. From the limited lore we have, asoiaf world seems to be set in a magical post-apocalyptic time where people don't even believe that magic was that powerful. That conjuring fireballs, illusions and warding spells like the ones imbuing the wall was the best they could do.
      While not as grandiose as most verses, its prime magic level seemed to be a less powerful version than that of Harry Potter. They used Blood & Flesh Warping magic to create Dragons, by just setting that George directly indicated the level of power of his verse. 100 to 200 years after the time asoiaf nobody would believe that magic or Dragons ever existed and it would be identical to our real life medieval time.

  • @SpixPrime
    @SpixPrime 6 месяцев назад +38

    So good, a visit to the wall was never in the book for Cregan and Jace but it’s change I welcome. It feels so significant especially considering Aegons prophecy though I’m assuming Jace hasn’t had it passed to him yet.
    Loved this. Cregan talking of the Alysanne and Jaeharerys and their dragons refusing to cross the wall, (some theories suggest the magic in the wall or they feel the presence of the Others and are afraid), such a good call back and representation of ASOIAF lore, I hint of retconning the later seasons of GOW well for me personally.
    “Do you think my ancestors built a 700ft wall of ice to keep out snow and savages?” God I loved that line and really it should have been asked more after even hinting toward the Others. And then to hear that familiar eerie music, I got such goosebumps, even watching the scene looking beyond the wall you don’t know what is out there but I reckon you get the feeling there is something dark out there in the cold and dark.
    My favourite part of the episode all honestly

      It makes me wonder if the Starks’ belief in the Wall was reinforced or rejuvenated by Aegon’s prophecy - Torrhen knelt because Aegon shared his vision. But after Aerys, any Stark who might have known about the prophecy was dead.

    Cregan actor Tom Taylor also played young Uhtred son of Uhtred of Bebanburgh in the first episode of The Last Kingdom. The north is strong in him.

    When I saw the stills of Tom Taylor as Cregan Stark, I wasn't quite sure about him, he looked a bit fresh faced.
    I know Cregan is only 21 here, and 23 during the Hour of the Wolf, but he's described as formidable, and that whenever he walked into the room, the Lads found him intimidating, and he reminded Bloody Ben Blackwood that he was just 13, despite having fought Borros Baratheon at the Battle of the Kingsroad.
    But that look he gave at 1:33 had me convinced he was the guy to play Cregan. But hopefully, they'll have him grow a beard for when he appears for the Hour of the Wolf, make him look a bit older and weathered, compared to the Lads.
