  • Rahul Dua, one of India's beloved stand-up comedians, shares his journey in comedy, family life, and pursuing his dreams.
Growing up in a typical middle-class family, Rahul didn't have much say in his decisions. He studied engineering and then pursued an MBA, following the path many engineers take. He eventually landed a job in Mumbai, where he realized his true passion lay elsewhere: in comedy.
After attending a comedy club in Mumbai, Rahul decided to chase his dream of becoming a stand-up comedian. He quit his job and started performing in open mic events, which fueled his passion even more. Rahul also discusses how his family viewed his bold decisions.
He encourages others to explore different career paths, meet new people, travel, and try new things to find what truly makes them happy.
Josh Talks collects and curates the most inspiring stories of India and provides a platform to showcase them. Speakers from diverse backgrounds are invited to share their stories, highlighting the challenges they overcame, on their journey to success and realizing their true calling.
Josh Talks passionately believes that a well-told story has the power to reshape attitudes, lives, and ultimately, the world. We are on a mission to find and showcase the best motivational stories from across India through documented videos and live events held all over the country. What started as a simple conference is now a fast growing media platform that covers the most innovative rags-to-riches success stories with speakers from every conceivable background, including entrepreneurship, women’s rights, public policy, sports, entertainment and social initiatives. With 7 regional languages in our ambit, our stories and speakers echo one desire: to inspire action. Our goal is to unlock the potential of passionate young Indians from rural and urban areas by inspiring them to overcome the setbacks they face in their career and helping them discover their true calling in life.

I started getting into Stand-up comedy around 2 years back. When I first performed my set in Mumbai, I had no idea who was hosting and who else was trying out their material. To my shock, it was Biswa hosting and comedians like Zakir Khan and Naveen Richard were there trying out their stuff. I got to meet other comics as well, and it was a wonderful experience overall. My first set ever went really great, the audience gave an amazing response and I felt brilliant too. But what followed after changed my thoughts on stand-up comedy in India. The following months were filled with ups and downs - I was new to college (undergraduate) and hardly had the time to write new material. Finding places to perform was a tedious task too. What was worse? Getting the audience to 'click' with you. Don't get me wrong, but I do believe likability has a lot to do with how well 'jokes' go around with the audiences. I won't name them, but I know of comedians today making great money with the worst, senseless jokes ever just because their 'fans' adore them. Anyway, I have sadly seen a lot of wonderful comedians go unnoticed because of the lack of sense and logic put in by their own audiences - they wanted easy jokes while their comedians kept trying hard. To conclude, if you are planning on getting into stand-up comedy, prepare to put in a great ton of time and energy just to even get few laughs on a regular basis. Stand-up requires a huge deal of commitment and hence I left the scene itself. Maybe I'll go back someday.

I have established myself open mic from the help of komedians network of India and some sponsorship from them and practice and do open mics in small restaurant I live in so backward city which is just a town and k m from Odisha
Yes u are correct that stand up needs full commitment and that's why only some are famous I m giving jee exam this year so that i could get IIT Delhi and continue there ... I think I can clear it as I have worked so much for only this purpose to do stand up and move to a good city

Super weird and Its even more weird to know that he was still pursuing his degree when I started pursuing mine!

It sounds great to hear from one who is already successful but not everyone is as great as you, just for example every class has a topper, there are backbenchers too. maybe some of them won't survive outside that controlled environment. So it's better to stick to what you are doing until you found out that you are that topper in your passion!
