So when I first took over as headbrewer in my current position, the company I work for had a consultant come on.
The dude was an older brewer and absolutely no shade, but I got grifter vibes from him. Every issue he felt we were having he happened to sell the solution.
So he asked me about my last brew. It was a lager I did with based on a brulosophy article, and he immediately started giving me shit. "You're a professional brewer, why the fuck are you listening to homebrewers? Why are you listening to amateurs!! You're a professional brewer! " Which, again, no shade to that guy, that sentiment struck me as wildly arrogant. A good idea is a good idea is a good idea. If the beer on the other side tastes good, why does your ego factor in?
I came from the culinary world. He knew that, so to help make his sale in front of the owners looks at me and says, "You were a chef, would you bring an amateurs recipe or technique into your kitchen?"I looked at the dude and said,"Yeah, because if the product is good, who cares what you stole from where?"
A lot of brewers I've met have this attitude, and imo the second you stop listening to people who are also brewing beer because of ego you've absolutely lost the fucking plot.

I have no idea how anyone could be offended by Brülosophy's findings from the experiments. It's like being offended by the publishing of a scientific paper, it doesn't matter what your personal opinion is on the subject, the findings show what the experiment discovered and science doesn't care about feelings.

I write and review scientific papers, and people in the scientific community get offended all the time

    • @giuseppegallocorvus

@Nis Sand Jacobsen ...yup, having lived in the scientific community for over 20 years, I can confirm that people become verbally and physically violent over a paper more often than you think🤣
I remember a professor with a black eye after having what he defined "a vibrant scientific debate with a colleague over the results shared in a conference, and the fact that I pointed out a mistake in one the formulas during his speech"

People who want to be offended will find things to be offended about. I think it's important to remember that there's a wide swath of people who are offended by real scientific findings about stuff that actually matters. It's wild.

I really don't want to come of as an a...ole. But are you at all aware of the political climate that's been around for the last ten years. A whole lot of people are getting really butt hurt from scientific reports suggesting that it might be a bit clever to take little bit better care of the rock we're all living on for example.

Homebrew is not new. It's older than civilization. There is evidence that Mesopotamian cities were first founded in part to have a safe, permanent place to leave your fermentation vessel between hunts.

The Brulosophy crew in general tend to drink Miller Lite in between homebrews. Their whole schtick is "like what you like". They're unapologetic on that front.
