All pilots should be "weather nerds"--it really is a matter of life and (here at least, virtual) death. Great video as always. I share your excitement!
The new clouds were the biggest bump in 'immersion' when introduced, IMHO. Right up there with deck crew on the Super Carrier. With that, I have only three words to add: "AI", "AI", "AI" :)
Great Sitrep 👍Weather is a significant part of aviation, and forecasts define operations. It's good that ED is investing in it. As a Finn, I just have to ask when we will get realistic looking snowfalls in all forms.
JUST FYI, I just got the pimax crystal light, first time trying VR.....BY GOD its a whole new level of gaming, I am almost 40 and it gives me that "Christmas morning" excitement to play again. If you can swing it, try it, you wont regret it.
You have to give half life alyx a go!!! Wasted over an hr in the opening baloney that game blew my mind and yes dcs is next level in vr but doesent run the best for me.
I'm very excited for more weather effects, it looks great but feels really stale, we need dynamic stuff happening outside the pit! Wind, rain, snow, fog, smoke, reflections.
Smooth. No lag. No stutter. Or a bit of foggy atmosphere? It's very pretty, but I wonder sbout the processing costs, when the engine is already creaking.
I totally agre. 8500 man hours is a ridiculous investment when you look at some core features that desparately need work. Multithread is still on v1, VR needs.. well everything, EW/ECM is dumbed down and don't mention Vulkan.
How dare ED improve the core engine with more realistic weather and line of sight blocking for visual and sensor systems, while simultaneously making improvements to the SC. What's next, a working dynamic campaign for free as well?
Guess they finally had to catch up to the graphical fidelity of farming simulator. Ever notice they announce stuff in their X and beyond trailer and we get it 8 mos or so later, but it takes literal years to deliver on promised features of half decade old modules?
Maybe they should spend some of those thousands of man hours on something beneficial to the sim. It’s already been stated but AI logic, air traffic control and ground ops (carrier update improvement is definitely a positive for us that bought the carrier YEARS AGO), and how about simple game play - dynamic campaign. Can someone point out literally how many years this has been talked about but nothing. Yet we get a constant stream of early access aircraft and pretty landscapes with nothing to do unless you buy a scripted campaign or you dog fight in multiplayer. For me, not buying another module until dynamic campaign. And my guess I will not be buying another module. I’ve done my part in supporting them. Dynamic campaign has been literally the top request for easily 10 years.
I think that the added Supercarrier features are great and a step in the right direction (even though I don't personally fly carrier ops much). That said, I'm really very disappointed that so many man hours and money is being spent on making DCS look nicer (i.e. clouds and fog). Please EA, give us a semi functional ATC. The whole "Can't clear for take off. Cleared for take off. Can't clear for takeoff", random "Hold position" calls and of course my favorite ATC feature: fly heading 300 each and every departure (I mean at least change it to something generic like "Fly runway heading to 5000 then cleared tactical) is awful. Completely immersion breaking for me. And let's not even get started on the less than useless wingman AI. I love DCS but I've recently started also playing BMS and they've really got some things right over there in Falcon land with features that EA (who have an actual budget) could easily implement.
How about they create a functional product before offering it for sale, instead? I'm tired of supporting the developers only to be served partly working products for nearly 20 years now. At this point it's just insanity to buy something on the hope that ED will one day have everything working 100%.
I’m about 110% sure all of this volumetric dynamic fog and sand with lighting and blah blah is going to pretty much look like crap in VR and will reduce my frame rate to 7. So pretty sure I’ll have that option set to off. I can’t get excited about things that Will- by necessity- create an additional - substantial - performance anchor for anyone without a turbo charged diesel powered over clocked liquid nitrogen cooled vidoe card
Does anybody know which F-104 version they will do? G would be the most interesting (well.. Italians might have a different opinion). But a version with AAR capabilities would be nice. Or the ZELL module. I like the F-104 because in other modules you have to fly to the specs to get the best performance, while in the F-104 you have to fly it to the specs to not fall out of the sky.
@@Pricklyhedgehog72 even so... think it is in poor taste for ED to use a developer they are having a fallout with, unless there is an unannounced resolution pending.
Yep. it takes a lot of processing power...to simulate both a digital cockpit and analog cockpit which may have mechanical indicators. Some are out phase. For example, a mechanical "attitude" indicator is just a ball in water where you actually see the backside. Funny how, most simulations get it wrong. What you see now is the corrected 180 out phase correction on the z axis.
@@gungriffen That's a very bad description. If they did it as "stepping stones", they end up with disjointed code. LOS calculations should be an integral component of any weather code, which means it should be done *while* coding the weather code, not tacked on later.
Commercial pilot and past CFI here - I'm as excited for the weather as you are. My PC not so much.

Great video, thanks
Sometimes you got a far away cloud on one eye, but not on the other. That's a pretty funny effect, i've only seen in DCS VR so far :D
See that with contrails all the time. It is a bit disconcerting the first few times you see it.
Hi, big compliments to your channel and your videos. Keep it up.🙂
Love me some eye candy! I want the sim to look as good as possible.
bms has entered the chat lol
I personally thing eye candy shouldn't be the top priority in a simulator.
@@SVD762-lp9en Agreed. The planes should come first. But it's 2024 and I want great looking terrain and environmental effects.

It is a biblical event to watch the haboob consume everything around you... the stinging wind, the cold rush... and the rain and lightning!

DCS should focus on weather, NPC AI and AI ATC/general Air Coms. Dont need more modules until these features are as near perfect as possible.
Rejoice nerds, now you'll be able to "justify" a 5090!
Yeah, the timing of this update is a bit worrying.
Can you believe people complained on the forum about how much work had been put into the new weather system?

Interested to see how the new fog implementation will mess up all the existing missions situated on the Caucassus map.

Haven't had that problem with the Pimax Crystal...
I feel the best way to solve the Stennis SC compatibility is for people to buy the super carrier, module and support the developers.
