I have freedom of speech in America. However, I can not publicly talk about the industry I regulate. Further, I cannot even talk privately about the proprietary information that I know about said industry or its participants. I can quit and blather all I want. I just can't do both. An adequately functioning adult understands this limitation.
@@kaptivatingstudios676 So.. you're not an adequately functioning adult, then? Idk if you know this, but "the invisible hand of the free market" can't do everything. We have laws and regulations to protect businesses and people from bad actors. It's proprietary information; do you know what proprietary means? Because the reason that you wouldn't want that information released is literally build into the definition of the word... so if you understand it, then you should understand why. And if you understand why, I'm not sure why you said "[you] don't see why not" "Shouldn’t you be able to share your opinions about businesses or voice objections or even praise?" That's also not what anyone was talking about. When you purposefully misunderstand/don't understand someone for the sake of making an argument, it makes you look like kinda silly. Do you understand that they're not saying that they're literally not allowed to talk about the industry they regulate in any capacity, at any time, no matter what, no exceptions, not even a single word? Because that'd be nonsensical. I don't even know what industry they're in, but I don't need to in order to know that what they meant is that there are certain things (or categories of things) that they can't talk about. This could be to protect trade secrets, future company plans, classified information [from govt contractors], something simple like employee security, or any number of things I'm not considering. (they'd almost certainly be allowed to praise someone/something related to their industry)

Yes, there are limitations on free speech. If you are part of a business deal and you know a stock is about to tank, you can't tell everyone you know it's about to tank so they pull their money from the stock. It's called insider trading and it's illegal. You could argue free speech but insider trading law would supersede it. I think the issue here is that his own profession is captured by 'trans' ideology. England, Sweden, and Finland have all done systematic reviews of the evidence and found no evidence for 'transitioning' minors and that the harm it has caused is not justifiable. And France, Norway, and Denmark are also putting the brakes on these medical interventions. The suicide rate is x19 higher post-transition and often occurs w/i 5-10 yrs after transition. The 'trans' agenda is promoted primarily by wealthy, male, heterosexual cross-dresser sexual fetishists, autogynephiles/transvestic fetishists. (To follow the money see The 11th Hour Blog). Men who often have other paraphilias. These men invade women's single-sex spaces and supplant women's and LGB's sex-based rights--including women's sports. Most of these men are genitally-intact. And they promote mutilating 'transitioning' of minors that is not justified by the evidence. Many of these minors are just gay or lesbian who are 'sex lobotomized' by the 'gay conversion therapy' of 'transitioning.' 'Transgenderism' is misogynist and homophobic to its core. It is a medical scandal that I hope results in more legislation banning it and lawsuits that will curtail it. See reduxxdotinfo and the IEA interview w/ Helen Joyce, author of 'Trans: When Ideology Meets Reality' to understand what 'trans' 'gender identity' is really about. See Women's Liberation Front and LGB Alliance, LGB United, Women's Declaration International USA. @@BDub2024 I'm not Canadian, but my feeling is that pretty much nothing that he says is based in any fact or even honest reason. The Canadian law that he complains "compels speech" just plain doesn't. To say so is like saying the 2d amendment to the US Constitution MANDATES that all Americans must have guns, it just doesn't say that. Then he goes on to talk about how certain surgeons are "butchers" because they perform gender reassignment surgery, which would apply equally to any surgeon, especially those who perform any elective surgery whatsoever, cosmetic surgery, breast enhancement, anything really. Former Trump spokesperson Kaley McEnany had an elective radical mastectomy because her mother had breast cancer and she tested positive for genetic markers. Was her surgeon a "butcher" for "hacking off" (terminology Peterson has actually used in discussion) her healthy breasts? What about the children? Children mostly can't get ANY surgery on their own, parental consent is mostly required, and that goes for gender reassignment surgery, which is so rarely performed on minors it's fair to say it isn't. So that's just a red herring. But what about breast surgery on teenage girls? That also requires consent, but usually it's a case of breast reduction where a girl's breasts come in uncomfortably large, or they have breast cancer, or they are getting enhancement, which Jordan doesn't complain about. Bottom line: nobody is being "butchered", least of all kids, it just isn't happening. This goes into politics where he excoriates anyone with ideas that don't fit a very narrow conservative orthodoxy, as crazed marxists and communists, which is plain ludicrous. Joe Biden is ideologically much closer to conservative than he is to socialist, and communism hasn't even entered the chat. But all that he talks about are evil leftists and cultural marxists, bogeymen he makes up clearly to suit an agenda. So his penchant for hyperbolic rhetoric seems quite purposeful, more like he's trying to ACHIEVE something than simply express himself, and that's called "politics", not honest expression or debate. So while I agree that intelligent discussion is critical, I disagree that Jordan participates in it. I would welcome him to participate in a genuine dialogue, but he seems to have abandoned that for a much more pragmatic path. His preference toward extreme rhetorical exaggeration just makes him seem like an erratic madman. That's what I think anyway.
@@BDub2024 Surely you realize the flaw in your reasoning? Children need surgery the same as anyone else: to save their lives. Kids need heart surgery, they need to have a burst appendix removed. But it's always sunny with parental consent or in lieu of that, court consent when the parent is not available or not capable. Surgery on children is not happening outside these strictures Society should surely protect the young and the weak, that's a given, and we do. I don't see what the argument is here.

As a psychologist, he must know that overcoming the biological will to live, letting go of one's multiple attachments to life as well as to loved one's, is no painless, easy or simple task and that it would take a whole lot of mental courage and guts (not to mention, a whole lot of unresolvable subjective angst and suffering or a complete loss of hope) to even begin to overcome those factors and consider a self-exit, even if one were faced with an incurable terminal illness. How can he not know this as a psychologist, let alone ask someone to just "go do it" when any DIY option is far from easy or simple? No one should be asking anyone to go _-I-L-L themselves. Period. Especially not a psychologist. The reason programs like MAID are there, is to provide people with the right to choose a voluntary, painless, guaranteed, peaceful and compassionate exit from life, at a time of their choosing, where they can find closure with loved ones, say their goodbyes and so that they don't have to resort to ill-reasoned or gruesome and painful methods of self exiting. There is no peaceful DIY method available to most people on this planet and he ought to know this as a psychologist. What if one of his patients was someone that was dealing with a terminal condition, terrible unresolvable suffering, nearing end of life and was asking for the means to a peaceful exit? Would he ask them to go just go _I-L-L themselves!? What kind of psychologist doesn't understand the actual logistics of a DIY exit? He really should NOT be asking ANYONE to "just go _I-L-L themselves"! and definitely not in a kermit-like voice.
Your argument is ridiculous. Everything you say about suicide is correct and tragic. He was pointing out the hypocrisy of the person's comment about population, which is the hypocrisy outlined by the [working class] philosopher Professor Scruton about privileged left wing people: everyone must not live/spend their money BUT NOT ME. That is what Peterson was pointing out. He was not encouraging that person to top themselves, so your argument is disingenuous.

Period. I mean, he’s a clinical psychologist! I don’t hate him (or anyone for that matter), I just disagree with him. Just because I disagree with someone, doesn’t mean that I must hate them. Honestly, probably. Bit that is far from being a doctor and saying that other professionals are monsters and should be killed.
I have freedom of speech in America. However, I can not publicly talk about the industry I regulate. Further, I cannot even talk privately about the proprietary information that I know about said industry or its participants. I can quit and blather all I want. I just can't do both. An adequately functioning adult understands this limitation.
I don’t see why not. Shouldn’t you be able to share your opinions about businesses or voice objections or even praise?
@@kaptivatingstudios676 So.. you're not an adequately functioning adult, then?
Idk if you know this, but "the invisible hand of the free market" can't do everything. We have laws and regulations to protect businesses and people from bad actors. It's proprietary information; do you know what proprietary means? Because the reason that you wouldn't want that information released is literally build into the definition of the word... so if you understand it, then you should understand why. And if you understand why, I'm not sure why you said "[you] don't see why not"
"Shouldn’t you be able to share your opinions about businesses or voice objections or even praise?"
That's also not what anyone was talking about.
I thought a similar thing when he refused to delete his Twitter post about Elliot page saying he would rather die in his stupid dramatic fashion. His post was against twitters terms of service, terms he agreed to. I would have thought a phd holder would have been able to easily comprehend this. Instead of crying persecution.
You absolutely can . What are you talking about. Is very, very little things that you can do .
Yes, there are limitations on free speech. If you are part of a business deal and you know a stock is about to tank, you can't tell everyone you know it's about to tank so they pull their money from the stock. It's called insider trading and it's illegal. You could argue free speech but insider trading law would supersede it. Peterson's ability to keep his license is predicated on meeting certain professional requirements. If he doesn't want to meet those requirements because he wants to say whatever he wants, then f*cking give up your license, dude. Blame it on the unreasonable academic elites like you always do and f*ck off.
Why does anyone take him seriously
Because he makes MAGAts feel good about themselves.
because he is defending the power hierarchies that serve his audience and telling them that they are indeed entitled to run shit and be on top because they inherently deserve to be on top.
A large part is also that he draws on legitimacy from having recently been a clinical psychologist in "good standing." He knows his credentials affect his income and boost his lies.
Because life gets difficult at times and everyone needs a strong daddy now and again.
Of course only people who think and try to understand take him seriously. Parrots like yourself can't understand that.
I thought it was interesting how his daughter was just sitting there, listening - not agreeing, nor asking him for any questions or clarifications. It almost appeared as if he was throwing her a bone to boost her online audience/presence/platform, and at the same time was glad to have a very friendly atmosphere to just say whatever the hell he wanted without any pushback. I feel it honestly reveals a lot about what he feels about himself versus what he knows, deep down, is true. He likely wouldn't have said half the crap he did on some other program. Healthcare professionals have to practice according to a Code of Ethics. We all have them. If you don’t practice accordingly you can lose your license. He should just give up his license if he can’t act like a professional.
I just scanned his code of ethics. He went against a few requirements. The worst is slurring those physicians. That’s a no no. If they think a professional is doing anything unethical they can not broadcast it. They are allowed to talk with the other professional but they can’t broadcast it. And the way he treats others is definitely enough to get his license revoked.
@@BDub2024 Its not really intelligent discussion he engages in, it's overblown rhetoric that most of his followers accept.

16:33 I’ve been thinking this every time she's onscreen, but the way you can see his daughter's soul just leave her body and almost hear her inner monologue of “I wonder when he'll finally run out of gas” will never stop being funny to me. Like you know that woman has sat through thousands of these rants at the family dinner table.
Don't blame her for trying to kill him tbh
Her crazy Dad and his insane rants are her meal ticket. Without him, she'd probably become an Only girl.
Didn't she call him on twitter though? That tells us that she's at least incredibly annoyed with all the nastiness that he's spewing all the time.
Peterson stuck in his own hero journey at the 'Goddess' phase, trapped by motherly support of wife and daughter, Anima issues in obsession with female body dysphoria.
Carl Jung would have a field day.
He strikes me as the type who sits silently at family meals, inviting his family, to do all the talking, thereby allowing him to sit in silence judgment.
@@sarahdlp524 No actually it is not. Certain ideologically, religiously or politically motivated people (not all, but some) seem to say this very thing, as if it’s some sort of a “rebuttal” to the topics that they are ideologically opposed to. It seems like they say this sort of thing during arguments about climate change, population (I guess… as you pointed out), or on topics like MAID, etc., etc. Maybe it’s a knee jerk reaction to positions they don’t agree with on an ideological basis, but as a psychologist, he ought to know better than to say it in the first place to anyone at all, regardless of their political orientation, their beliefs, etc. Really no one should be saying this to anyone else for any reason at all. Period. I mean, he’s a clinical psychologist! I don’t hate him (or anyone for that matter), I just disagree with him. Just because I disagree with someone, doesn’t mean that I must hate them.
The fact is that there are many ways to point out to someone that they are being hypocritical on any topic WITHOUT resorting to telling them that they could or should just go commit su-i___ as an ideologically motivated rebuttal. Given the very fact that actually doing so, in practical terms, is neither easy nor painless at all. It’s a callous thing for a psychologist to be saying. That’s the point. There is no painless, guaranteed, peaceful off-switch. He ought to know that as a psychologist, but he tends to say it nevertheless, as a so-called “rebuttal”. This is a common ideologically motivated retort by some, but should not be used as a retort at all. That’s the point. I hope that makes more sense.
Look, I have empathy and love for him as a person, despite disagreeing with him on many topics, knowing that he has been through a lot of suffering in his life, like any other person on this planet. But I don’t think anyone should use this as some kind of a “rebuttal” or comeback.
No one that wishes to live, should be asked to “go _ILL themselves. It should not be said as a rebuttal and not even as a joke. That’s the point. He’s a clinical psychologist!
