I live in Tyler. Know of this cemetery but never been there. The police hang around there because it's been vandalized of the Confederate tombstones. That unmarked grave is a Confederate soldier. Oldest cemetery in Tyler.

We used to pass this cemetery all of the time during the summers when we visited Tyler (my mom’s hometown) as a kid! I’d always wanted to visit this cemetery and now I can thanks to LaMont! Thanks, brother!
I know I’m way late to this but just found your channel. The brick tomb/grave is one of the most intact examples I’ve seen and Texas is my stomping grounds. For me, police show up 7 out of 10 times. Some make contact, some don’t. If they don’t make contact, I’ll go speak to them, maybe ask some questions about local history. Depends on the situation and the vibe. The Civil War statuary is an awkward subject, isn’t it? I had ancestors who fought on each side. In one family, two brothers and their father fought for the Confederacy while the other two brothers fought for the Union. These men were the uncles of my Great-Grandmother. I’m lucky to have known her and I wish I’d listened more closely to her stories. Listen to the stories your elders, friends. Every time someone dies, we lose an entire library of information. (What do you think those family dinners were like??)
Yes, it was a sad time in our history. Which no matter how we try will always be a part of our history. Slavery was wrong but happened. Started long before the Civil War. People had different thoughts on the matter at that time. It did not make it right. we can not erase it .
don't forget there was slavery in the Bible in Jesus time. I believe all he said at it at that time do not mistreat your slaves. The biggest slave owners now are the Muslims they still have slavery. Many Christians are put to slavery.
Thanks, Lamont. Lovely cemetary. CSA stands for Confederate States of America. Great story about Tyler: very rich socialite there murdered by a family member for her money. Featured on "City Confidential" on A&E.

Lamont, have you been to Nashville yet? There is a cemetery there you must tour. In the past, it was Nashville luminaries and wealthy elite that were buried there. UNBELIEVABLE monuments, mausoleums and crypts. Some of the most elaborate I ever seen. Beautiful grounds, very nice. I am also a fan of cemeteries, graveyards and the history of it's residents. In the 1980s and 1990s, this cemetery had lots of issues with rituals being done at night by witchcraft practitioners, had to start closing at dark. I went a few years ago, and it's business office was closed, abandoned and wide open. Records were everywhere of plot sales and personal info. Mausoleums were broken into and caskets visible. This place even has DuPont family members and Tennessee Governors, Mayors, etc. buried in there. I don't understand what was happening with this place, abandoned and showing signs of vandalism, but it's sure one to be seen. Mount Olivet on Lebanon Road. It's just a few streets east from downtown Nashville. I only hope today it is being taken care of again. I don't live there anymore but it should be enjoyed, or viewed, if your ever in that city.
Lamont I agree that acknowledging owning slaves is not something that agrees with our sensibilities; however as you noted it was a different time.
