Thank you for posting this! I did the same for my 98 TJ. It is 100% worth the hassle because it makes every other repair easier. Every inch of the frame, engine, suspension, tub bottom, etc. Is accessible.
That's awesome! I plan on doing a body off engine swap before too long. Thanks for putting this together. I have a question, if you don't mind. The Jeep's computer and engine wiring harness are mounted to the firewall. How did you take care of them when removing the body?
thanks for the vid i am puting back my 97 from a full frame off resto and im wondering on the driverside of the motor there is a bracket that holds the main fuel line and another rubber line with the being metal do you know were or what that goes to, thank you mark!
You do not have to jam a flat head into the shifter... just have to grab it with a pair of channel locks, you will leave teeth marks but you will not damage the shift pattern logo. Clearly both damage the knob but I'd rather have the shift logo instead of a damaged one. (Logo will brake, tryed already) awesome video tho, very informal of a few things things I was questioning....
There’s actually a way to remove the shifter from out the top of the transmission by pushing in and turning. I’m sure someone has it on RUclips. This was my first time tearing a Jeep apart. Learning experience!
In fact, if you use a hair dryer or a heat gun right on the shift pattern, using a slim flat screwdriver will pop out the shift pattern cap with zero damage.
As you picked up the body did it need to move front back to clear. I've done all the video shows but I'm still hitting something. holding me from a clear lift off.
Joseph Starnes it can be lifted right off straight. If you can't lift the tub still I would suspect possibly a body mount bolt that might have been missed? You removed 11 of them right ?
DemersCG yeah me and my father in law went over the video twice and every thing covered was to the point of what we had done. When we lift by hand it sounds and feels like it's catching on something. That's why I have not used a hoist yet.
What about evap canister? I watched the goonzsquad videos and they broke something on theirs when they pulled the body up. Looked like it was passenger rear panel.
David Whitby I cant think of anything on the rear right that I had to take off. The evap system is attached to the tub which comes and stays with the tub. I didn’t go over the canister in this video but you shouldn’t have any issues with it. Just remove the hoses from it
Chris Demers thanks! Have you put this all back together yet? I’m about to start with my 04 TJ, I want to do a V8 swap and just like the idea of taking it apart and rebuilding it piece by piece cleaned up.
also chris my email is railroad88.mb@hotmail.com if you have some good pics of the lines and plugs ect that would be real helpful, i know my buddy help me tear it down because hes done won but now hes to busy to help me put things back,i did see your 4wheel drive linkage and he told me to remove mine because i bought the steinjager cable set up so i hope he was right because i dont have that linkage by the 5speed shifter as i seen in pic, im going to look at the steinjager video on the install. thanks you!

Chris-thanks very much. I just did a frame swap, and I used your video to help me. I also linked to your video from the Jeep Forum. Thanks again.
That was actually very helpful. Thx for the walk through
To the point and very informative. Right on
Great video. I'm just starting to tear down my '02 and this video has helped me a lot. Thank you!
Great Video--clear instructions. I followed what you said exactly. Worked perfectly for me.

thanks, what are you doing about your frame? I have accident damage from a previous owner I want to address.

The tub with the front fends and components weigh a lot dude. Your going to need more than 2 people to lift it. Use the hoist and go slow
