  • I have been using UCO matches for over three years now. I felt it was time to publish a video review of them.
This video is both a practical application review (demonstrating the uses of the product for actual conceivable survival situations) as well as a longevity review (a product that I have experience using for at least several months).

They really are great matches, on a side note, if you lose or get the strikers wet you can light the matches on the very fine side of a file. Like that on a leatherman.

Joshua your videos are fantastic. You are a patient, clear, and gifted instructor. Maybe someday the stars will align and I'll be able to learn from you in person. You sold some UCO matches on this one.
And for what it's worth, I appreciate the multiple cut-aways that make your videos some of the most efficient, focused instructional content I've ever seen. Your respect for my viewing time is greatly appreciated.

I am glad you appreciate it, I get a surprising amount of flack for that when it’s just an attempt to cut out anything that isn’t completely necessary and respect people’s time

Great comparison! I always take a BIC with me as well as a firesteel but I'll still generally have a container of UCO matches as a backup.

The bigger Titan matches are great for people who don't use matches on a regular basis. In my experience its better to have to much of anything then not enough. When people are cold an shaking with numb an wet hands, normal matches become worthless. People break almost every match they try and use if its a normal size match in those conditions. Also the time it takes tender to catch fire will change by a few seconds when its very cold outside. At least at the courses I have held in the past temp has been a factor when lighting tender. But temps can change by 40 degrees or more in a day here in Alabama. I can say this with 100% confidence, your match video is the best match video I've ever seen on RUclips. You cover every base very well and have the best equal evaluation between each match for sure. I enjoy your video's my friend and hope you make many more. Thank You.

Thank you for the feedback, sir! Glad you enjoyed it. I think you make a really valid point on the temperature extremes. When people start pushing towards hypothermia they lose dexterity and fine motor skills (been there myself), so the biggest match with the longest burn time is the best choice, and the Titan Matches are the biggest and longest burning matches available (that I am aware of). You are right, for a survival kit, when you might not need 25 matches, 12 really big ones would do! Thanks again for your input.

I use the UCO stormproof myself. I ALWAYS use 2 or 3 at the same time depending on my tinder. Rather it work 1st time than risk wasting a resource. However the 1st match might dry out tinder enough to help second match work. I skip that n just use 2 at once. Great vid. Love the demo n not just pontificating.

Excellent, very thorough review brother. Your channel is going to do very well!
UCO is the only brand of matches worth putting in any sort of kit in my opinion, they work no matter the conditions.

Thank you for the feedback, brother! I appreciate it. And I could not agree with you more, I have carried and used them for over three years now and wouldn't use any other (or endorse any other for that matter)!

I had just finished watching the matches road flare you created with the uco matches and wax. Would of loved to see the bundle go up with one of those. Thanks

Very fair test to see if they work as advertised, which some products don't. But I have to admit it might be overkill but I carry the UCO matchsafe full of matches and an additional box of them in a ziplock bag, better safe than sorry I suppose. Thanks for the review.

Nothing wrong with that! One critic's "over-redundancy" is another man's additional nights of not dying from hypothermia.

Another fine tutorial thank you! For really wet conditions i have rolled a piece of bicycle rubber inner tube fit snug around the container so it is extra watertight and rubber wil always light up no matter how wet it gets.

I've had some of the UCO Stormproof matches for a while but never used them. Until yesterday, my daughter was trying to light the candle in her jack-o-lantern and the lighter ran out of fuel. So I figured I would try my matches. I had no idea how big and strong the flame would be, lol.

for some weird reason the UCO titan matches are not available in my country, probably in the whole EU. Ordered them from ebay USA and yes they are way more efficient than normal (smaller) matches. just too expensive to stockpile ;-)

Yes, or even better yet, his EDC Fire Kit video where his dog is running and jumping around like it is on crack. Now that was one of the funniest things I have seen so far.

I've been using the Walmart brand as a backup and I'm not impressed at all. I've heard nothing but good things about UCO so I'm going to have to check them out.
