Regarding Camelias, do you have a preferred time of year to transplant them? I have 1 sasanqua and 1 japonica that I think are getting too much sun on the west side of my house. I plan on moving them to the north side of my house. I live in zone 8b on the west coast. Thank you!
Maybe it’s too late but I’ve binge watched many of his and other videos. He has moved several shrubs and I believe he recommended doing so in their dormant periods.
What are those tall tall trees providing all that shade? Lover your channel, just bought a 1/4 acre .., This channel stirs up lots of ideas! In my zone 9b. We do get some short frosts but 1.5-2 months of extreme heat.. 105-114. If you can touch on tips for that would greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Some pretty nasty winds have been coming thru my area this morning. Couple trees coming down, and some of my potted plants got knocked over. No major damage though thankfully.

Hey Jim, my camellias have been blooming for about three weeks now. They are absolutely covered with blooms. I don't know the variety, as they were here when I moved in three years ago. Does that seem earlier than usual? Do you have any idea of what the variety might be? They are medium pink, not quite double, and they bloom profusely. That's probably an impossible question, but I thought I'd ask. I'm in Zone 8a, Birmingham area. I enjoy your videos very much! Thanks!
There are 1000s of named Camellia sasanquas unfortunately, bit only a few sold in the trade. You may be able to match it in a close by garden center

great tour of shade shrubs. I noticed 2 native shrubs, mahonia soft caress and Illicium florida sunshine, are there more you can recommend that are under 6 feet (short to medium range)?
Short shade natives are tough to come by. Definitely dwarf Yaupon hollies and Inkberry Hollies.

Hi Jim. I’m going to redo an area that has overgrown old Mahonia that were planted a long time ago. I really dislike it since it reseeds everywhere. The area only gets maybe 2 hrs of sun. I’m in Zone 7a and was wondering what what you plant since I can’t decide. Love the soft caress mahonia and other dwarf type shrubs. Thanks
I am going to pick up 5 pots of camellia next week from a seller. I live in Maryland zone 7a. Should I plant them right away since I have heard people say because the room temperature is high and inside the house is very dry because of the heat, some camellia died. Please let me know what soil do I need to buy from Homed Depot. Thanks
Do all Acuba spread so vigorously underground? I just pulled one out because I hated how it got black leaves from some late afternoon sun in the summer. But that thing great far and wide! It’s in the middle of my mahonia which will be a bear to get out since they are so prickly!
You were saying "these are ready to go out for the fall season," are the same things sold in fall as in spring or is there a difference? If there is a difference could you please describe it?

Can any of the illicium handle moist conditions? I have an area of dappled shade that has native fern and moss so I know it is moist but no standing water. Zone 8b nw Florida.
Do camelias do well in clay soil? Also, the Jean May---how much shade will it take?
The Camellia sasanquas like Jean May would like about half and half sun and shade. They do great in the clay as long as you elevate them a little when you plant them.

They are open on Saturdays in the spring. They also are set up at the state farmers market in Raleigh spring and fall
any reason why their sasanquas are in kinda deep shade?
I had all my Camellias in pretty deep shade as well. It was a good spot to keep them away from everything else. There are times of the year that they need very little water.
