I really appreciate your time in doing this video. I assume the 1/2hp motor would draw closer to 12A here in the US on startup(110v) so it's a good idea to see what happens when you have a cheap inverter. I like your diy! I think that one powered up the fastest, (and is probably safer to use than the others)

@@amri2design, wajaeboseben, MisledDan - I like the concept of this video, but on youtube there will always be those nay-sayers who say this wire was too small or this unit needs to warm up or you didn't check the crankcase oil on inverter #3 (??) - so Lab procedures must be perfect. Please do not consider me a naysayer - I know there is quite a bunch of junk on those Maersk line ships headed to Amazon, but once in a while there are some very nice designs that should win awards. That is why we test!
Some inverters need a small (20-25 w incandescent) load just to get them to seek to their on position - it also shows that at least it works at 25w! - not a bad addition next time. The DC cable should be sized for full startup load which can be 2-3 x running load or about 3000-4500 watts. Use "00" or "2/0" which is very big wire - that way the IR drop while running the inverter will not stop it. Also, very few cheap inverters are TRUE sine wave - modified sine wave units work for 90% of applications, except pumps and motors! So? Another good test is an oscilloscope so that we can see is it REAL sine wave output or sorta-kinda-not-really sine wave output?

Good job this guy knows how to demo do's and dont's. To operate a motor it should be a sine wave low frequency inverter. Other than that it wouldn't last.

Stupid review...he use msw inverter to run induction motor...that was so stupid.....all those fail because protection circuit protect the inverter when running on induction motor..

All those inverter are modified sine wave....and definately can not handle induction motor...msw inverter when put into induction motor would draw amper twice than it is....
The protected circuit detect a short...so they wont start...the one wit no protection circuit start but then blow up in seconds....wkwkkwkw

Interesting Test. So I can Test my DOXIN 1000 Watts Inverter using a 0.5Hp water Pump too.

The problem is when you try to start an induction motor it sucks almost 4 to 5 times more then it's rated power for a few seconds. A soft start circuit which could be easily rigged up would solve the problem!
Me: yes! Finally a real inverter! Works perfectly! ( tiny blue 1000w inverter)
Some seconds later: BOOM! smoke!

Mine is having problems with high voltage output on all outlets 135.6v 32 amps it's a powerbright 6kw 12kwmax msw it's always been very good costed me 600.00 power 15,000 btu AC unit offgrid with it. I need repair done I love that inverter. My bank is 1410ah 12v bank. 1800 watt solar 1200 watt 3 phase AC PMA wind turbine 100 amp rectifier solid state relay and dump board 300 watt resisters . Works very good.

Note that induction motors can draw between 5~ 10 times the running current on start up. I been finding Low Frequency large iron core transformer based inverters are the most reliable. It typically the dc to dc converter that fails on those HF types, rubbish designs.
Cheaper LF inverters consume lots of power on idle.
