We grew up on a decommissioned WWII military base, turned boarding high school and the government left behind a LOT of equipment that the school continued to use for decades. The arc welder looked very much like the one shown here. Granted, the military base opened in 1938, so unless THAT base got it second-hand, that welder wouldn't yet be 100 years old now if it still existed. I am pretty sure that it has been scrapped many years ago now.

    Make the magnet! But make
It look like the one from brave little toaster.

Now you guys can take a hybrid inverter and make a engine generator, welder and plasma cutter for a project. With a welder that has the aluminum welding offset settings like Miller and others call balance control that's an adjustable DCEN and DCEP waveform. Maybe use as the generator to run the electromagnet as well. Man, the hybrid CVT's are a dime a dozen and can output plenty of juice even with like a little 18HP opposed twin Briggs like their hybrid did.

Better let him build the electromagnet. Be impatiently waiting for that now. We need more wizard content.

My advice would be to test that magnet far out in the desert and not close to something that could catch fire like a mountain fort. 😀
