No contest for Fanna & Lui Chie Poo here. This is when the St.Leger was 14 furlongs. Changed to 10 furlongs in 1991. Only 4 winners of Triple Crown with this race at 14 furlongs in 31 years. Twice as many TC winners in the 30 years with Leger distance at 10 furlongs since. Did the distance change make it easy to win triple and cheapen the achievement?
Those horses aren't even bred to go 12 furlongs we should seriously consider to cut the distance to 10 furlongs for the derby all these stallions we have come from USA where u hardly have a race going 10 furlongs
The reduced distance certainly made the difference....Didnt agree with the change of distance myself....to be a TRIPLE CROWN WINNER is a very special achievement....and the distances was a part of that test.But the promoters cut the distance of the St Ledger to increase entries
