ADG Essenza review: • Acqua di Gio Essenza R...
Previous ADG review: • Armani Aqua di Gio rev... #fragrancefamily
#BestColognes
It's time to wear this again. I hardly smell it on people anymore. And I'm starting to wear it more. And women loves it. I get compliments regularly when wearing it. It's still my favorite scent although I have 30 plus fragrances in my collection. And it's my wife's favorite scent as well.
Make videos like this again!
Aqua di gio IS aquatic....but just not marine aquatic. Its more of a fresh watery aquatic...more reminiscent of a body of fresh water...like a slightly saline pond surrounded by flowers and woody trees.
it was inspired by Italian beaches
"You smell nice." "Are you kidding me? I smell fantastic!" Love the review, bros. Great work!
This is my all-time favourite scent, and the first I ever bought. Thankfully most men where I come from don't seem to wear anything but Joop! Homme so I can rock this and be unique.
My definition of aquatic is Bvlgari Aqva Marine!
Definitely!
ADG came out when I was a senior in HS, this got so popular so fast that it hit viral status. Girls loved it, and I think most girls, any age, still prefer aquatics. Like you said, 100's of fragrances smell like this, because it created 100's of copycats.
its a good one! thanks for commenting!
This is all I wore for years. 1998-2012 lol. Girls love this stuff. Still a very good scent. Great review bros.
I've heard that modern formulations are just a shadow of what ADG used to be. With that said, I've only tried the modern versions, and while it smells good, it has piss poor longevity on me as well.
I own it merely out of respect for one of the best frags to come out of the 90's.
ADG is not bad, i dont care for it...but Profondo makes me sick. that calone note is just...no thanks.
I too bought it because a woman suggested i buy it. Its in my collection, but its NOT replacing versace signature.
When i tried this on i was like "ok here we go, another classic smelling cologne, lets c why its so popular, i bet it boring its been around the block, its gonna be a bland mass audience fragrance", but as soon as i smelled it was like DAAAAAMN?!
It blew me right out of the water. I was simply stunned at how pleasant this was. I stopped being a fan of acquatics after davidoffs cool water and bvulgaris acqua, aka salty balls.
ADG was my very first cologne. I bought it when I was 16 in 1996.
Love the smell of Acqua Di Gio. I think its the best of my collection and I have gotten the most compliments from it than any other I own. I don't smell it on myself after a very short time but others have noticed it several hours later even in a club setting which really surprised me.
This Version is a bit more sophisticated and Masculine. It has a clean crisp subtle Woodsy and Citrus scent. I got far more compliments with this version than the previous one.
I have CK eternity and Aqua di Gio . Both my 3rd bottle ...
but post 2010 it is just for memories sake.
I got it as a gift but i won't re-buy it after i use it up, i like other aquatics better such as versace pour homme
Also, the word Daver looking for at 12:45 was "Saturation point". The fragrance market is beyond saturated with AdG. Also as a side note, I've never owned or wore AdG, word to Jer. I was a Cool Water kid growing up and transitioned from that directly into Allure Homme Sport in high school. I think AHS will be in a similar position to where AdG is today in a few years.
I like this one.
I stopped wearing allure sport cuz people kept asking me if I was wearing ADG... now I wear virgin island water in the heatheat
LOVE adg!!! Still the best aquatic I have put my nose on :-)
love it ir hate it ,bottom line is it gets the wiggle wet! i read an article back in 2000 that the name agua was to imply water as in holy water. Armani wanted a signature scent but the aqua part was because he disliked "eau de toilette" toilet water seemed a negative thing to him so he wanted armani water. nothing to do with scent profile.
I'm eagerly awaiting for my VIW in the mail. Love that stuff!!!
you know what's sad? that in the rarest cases people with a passion a knowledge like you guys work in perfume shops. that´s kind of a compliment to you guys, i guess ;)
So weird how popular AdG is in the USA, I've never smelt it on anyone here in the UK, I think the most popular fragrances here are JPG Le Male, Chanel de Bleu and 1 Million, everyone and their momma wears those, so thankfully I can rock AdG without worrying about smelling like anyone else.
I respect, but will never wear it. But you're right, it's the Fragrance of a generation. CW 2.0, and they did this one well, hence the dollars it still generates. Good review boys.
I second the collection video request! Perhaps one for Daver and one for Jer!!
Man guy in my opinion this was the cool water killer and there hasn't been anything to kill this one since. bvl aqva came close but no cigar. I am still watting as others. The only down side I see to this fragrance is that it wont work for me during cold weather. I think before cool water it was eternity. Anyway that's my take on it. Very nostalgic review guys thanks.
Same here.. I finally smelled it a few months ago because I heard so much about it. Nothing to be excited about.
I like Jer have never smelled this... Let me be more specific... I'm sure I have smelled this one someone else and had no idea what it was so I am sure I have smelled it but I have never looked for it... It was popular back when I was in my 20s and because it was so popular and everyone was raving over it I didn't want to smell like everyone else... If I go to Macy's or something and the associate tells me this is their biggest seller... I won't buy it because everyone already smells like it...
I stopped wearing ADG when i was 40 and it was one one of my most complemented until then with Armani Mania, Azzaro Pour Homme JPG.
Perry Ellis 360 Red > ADG by a mile... Price, longevity, sillage
That's crazy! I literally just bought an ADG box set and the guy at the counter made me consider the Perry Ellis red in comparisom. While I do admit PE is the better bargain i just get too many compliments. I went with Gio
Ive gotten alot of compliments with both but more with Red. Perry Ellis is spicier and lasts alot longer than Gio.
True religion for men is also a great alternative to adg and for 12.00 at marshals or tjmaxx
I agree it's totally my generation's Cool Water
And I'll continue to add on in that y'all say aquatics have moved on this and that but still you can never Go Wrong
Thanks for the validation Jer!!! =)
I've never got anything but compliments from wearing Aqua Di Gio. In fact, the only negative thing a girl has ever said is that she'd like if I had worn MORE of it. I've even had one girl tell me she buys it to spray on her pillow to make her feel like a man is sleeping next to her. I mean, any good cologne that stands the test of time is going to be worn by many people. That doesn't make it bad; what it does do, if she's smelled it before, is give her a sense of comfort. On top of that, it's about HALF the price of other designer colognes if you buy it in the 6.7 oz size. It's soft, subtle, clean, and fresh. It doesn't scream "I'm an old man so I smell like pepper and pete moss!" because, well, it doesn't. It also doesn't smell cheap, you know, like fabric softener sheets. I'll admit it doesn't last long, and I would like to see an eau de perfume version, but at the price of $72 for 6.7oz on fragrance . net... if you've got some extra money and you need a go to, I don't think you can go wrong with this scent.
Did you try aqua di gio essenza?
davedurable just purchased a bottle bro
Umm, there is an eau de parfume version. It's called Profumo and was released in 2015.
we are taken seriously. :) and, no, to reiterate my opinion, it doesn't smell very aquatic to me--especially after smelling other aquatics out there
I never had it, put it on my list but when I open my wallet Others are ahead on the list. Was in a Macy's awhile back bought John Varvatos and the clerk brought m\e a bottle of A. and recomended it I politely decliened.
I've always thought L'eau D'Issey Pour Homme started the whole aquatic thing xD. Oh well.
lol! yeah, common problem with this one.
Daver, you want something more unique? wear Musc Kublai Khan..that will get you a more dramatic reaction for sure
One great clone: Unbound for Men by Halston - a touch more natural and sweeter.
what do you guys think is the ADG of 2015?
Matt that's a fantastic question that would require a whole video to discuss. :)
Matt As far as the mainsteam scents go Id say this and Bleu De Chanel are the 1's I smell the most but as far as niche goes its deffinitly Aventus
Does it suppose to smell like alcohol the first second sprayed when wet?
brian bui you bought a fake one bro
Can you guys show us your collection?
What's the fragrance mentioned at 14:29?
Ambre Narguile by Hermes. What's funny is that now there are a few fragrances that smell like Ambre Narguile. haha.
my favorite

Hearing all the hype about this fragrance I finally decided to sample it at Macy's. To my surprise it started to smell like egg/shell on my skin within 5 minutes. I thought it was probably a bad tester so I decided to test it again at another store on a different day with the same results. Thinking my skin chemistry had to do with it so, yet, on a third occasion I used my son as a guinea pig. Again, the same egg smell on his skin. Just terrible.
yeah, it is beginning to be a little past its prime
Somehow, despite this frag's market saturation, I've avoided smelling it. :)
Great Review but I disagree on why people wouldn't want to wear this cologne anymore. For example why not I mean if it's Not Broken don't try to fix it it's a Great Smell that only it smells like it regardless if 100 people wear it it Never gets Old and now 20 plus years later people have moved on from cologne wearing and specifically this scent but I mean if I come across someone that wears it I won't be so close minded like only I can Smell like Gio then someone very open minded where to say oh yea who died and made you boss type of mentality lol that's why I say this is one of the best smells if Not The Best smell Ever!
There are sticks of deodorant that smell just like this and project better. It's a good smell, but at least on me it projects like crap and poops out quick. Good smell, but just not worth the money.
Best parfum
ha! that doesnt surprise me. man, that sucks. i hate the fake fragrance industry.
yea... 7 or 8 years ago back in the day, I thought any bottle was a real bottle lol.
Do you go on dates? I have so many colognes that everyone says are the best, bleu de chanel, sauvage(terrible) etc. ADG by far gives me the MOST compliments by far and it's not even close, I'm gonna stick to the women's reviews, I know that ADG is worn by many people, but everywhere I go, I never smell it on anyone when passing by cologne wearers. My exes that I'm still friends with tell me all the time that they wish other men would get it lol. My current girlfriend likes this by far the most as well.
5:53 - 7:09 ... How many times did Daver say "aquatic"? teehee ;-D
I had it, I was smelling like every girls that I dated or even talk to, X boyfriend!! I got tired, let it go, never got it again, and I am not planing to get it AGAIN!
Fragrance brooooooöooooooooooooooaaaaaoooooaaaaoooos
What perfumer created it ?
+Diego Vivar giorgio armani
Perry Ellis 360 red is waaayyyy better
TOTES MGOTES
this doesn't seem like an aquatic to you? are you serious? do you want to be taken seriously?
My first fake fragrance ever. I know, right?
Aquatics are boring.. they all smell the same. The only "aquatic" i remember are Cool Water and the good old Rochas Homme for men - yes i know its citrus.. but still.
I prefer fragrances that sticks out, pokes your nose abit.... raises your eyebrows.
Besides, if you want to smell like everyone else... ADG, Le Male or 1 Million are a sure bet.
haha! thank you! :)
LOL!
I've never understood the love and popularity of this fragrance. I think it smells like the citrus-y air freshener (?)smell that you encounter in a pet store like PetSmart or something.
Smells like jolly rancher candy on my skin..just doesn't last even with the sprayer giving you a waterfall wwwdotblueribbonbulliesdotcom
Agree..not worth it..I have to have PROJECTION and there's none wwwdotblueribbonbulliesdotcom
The bottom line here is when one scores a date with that squeaky clean woman with discerning taste you pull out the Acqua di Gio
One does not wear Armani for himself...he wears it for her
+The Cauze Of Wet Pantiez if you want to smell like her past few boyfriends, go ahead.
+Fragrance Bros. Absolutely ...when women recognise a fragrance its for good reason young grasshopper :D
She will feel brilliant for knowing what you wear as you compliment her great sense of smell and equally good taste XD Timeless classics are just that because they stand the test of time and are proven winners
Armani says money taste combined with fresh cleanliness ...mission accomplished
A man can then separate himself from "past boyfriends" with whatever actions he chooses after that What does a scent no one recognises do for opinion? They don't know if its some cheap crap you stumbled on at Walmart ...yeah you go ahead and keep her guessing while she calls her other choice of man whom she KNOWS wears class
+The Cauze Of Wet Pantiez well if you think that women are stupid, of course you are correct. But women aren't. Scent is felt more than anything else, and when you wear a scent that brings back emotional memories of someone else, you are treading on thin ice if you are trying to impress someone romantically. ADG hasn't aged well and is not only not as good as it used to be, but it is a cliche. If you want to look and smell like everyone else, you definitely aren't doing yourself a favor. You want to show others--especially a love interest--that you are different and intriguing. Wearing something other than ADG doesn't have to mean wearing something she won't like. Just find a unique scent that smells great and make it your own.
Fragrance Bros. Hmm...when you put it like that I see your point.
Perhaps its time for unique change
Time to go buy some CK One ... XD
