      It depends. Definitely the vertical provides overall higher level of the signals. However, if you listen carefully, you must recognize that my lousy beverage has the potential to fetch a DX station from the desired direction in a better ratio of useful signal to unwanted strong local signals. This is what matters. Petr

      exactly. Signals obscured by noise are useless. Rx antennas are about nulling noise MORE than they null desired signals. Total signal strength means nothing if it's in the noise.
