    I've loved and still use Jack Black products (my husband does too) since I worked in a Men's Department at Nordstrom and was gifted a lip balm by a vendor back in 2014. They are amazing! I'm surprised more women haven't discovered Jack Black.

    I can definitely agree with the consumerist world vs actually important stuff. I would like to get to a point where I'm not stressed by the paycheck-to-paycheck situation.
    SPF does not taste good. I've run across that with the spray-on sunscreen I use. I have to make sure I hold my breath when applying it. Lip balm an item where it's worth stashing a few around so you can always find one when you need it.
    I've only ever had to check batch codes when there's been safety recalls on stuff. Nice to know that they're usable for more benign processes too.
    I've been bit recently a couple of times ending up with not what I wanted from some overly hasty ebay shopping. I think I've learned the lesson to low down and really look at everything before making a decision.
    With your already sparkling personality you don't need more sparkles in your make up. Good call on that one.
    I can't speak to the quantity of products in your one hand haul, but I can say I feel your reasoning is solid. I don't see that you have any reason to feel bad about any of your purchases. I think it's wise that you keep circling back to the "no special occasions" rule. If there's a thing you really enjoy using, that should be the special occasion, not some random event or daydream scenario. I also appreciate what you said about constantly evaluating your behavior. I have got caught in ruts and slips back into old behaviors because I became complacent and went on auto pilot from a half-formed mentality. Consistently being aware of the choices we make and the thought process behind them and reasoning out and re-evaluating the thought process keeps us as active participants in our own lives.

    • @TheStyleStumbler
      @TheStyleStumbler  24 дня назад +2

      Agreed - living paycheck to paycheck is soul-sucking. Peace of mind is underrated in the context of consumerism.
      No, SPF really doesn't taste good.
      Yes - thank goodness for near-instant access to information!
      Awwww, thanks Zach! You're personality is pretty sparkling, yourself!
      Those old ruts really are hard to get out of sometimes, aren't they? It's so easy to fall back into old habits. Especially right now, where I'm pretty stressed, I feel like it's particularly important to remember my priorities and check in with myself. Thanks for hanging out with me while I do it. Your support is so steadfast, and it's always lovely to hear your perspective. 💛

      @TheStyleStumbler I do believe you're the first person ever to say I have a sparkling personality, thank you. 😁🥰 Most people would probably say I don't have one.
      Stress is brilliant at opening trap doors and awakening old muscle memory of bad/old habits. Sometimes I'm able to catch myself and remind my brain I know better and that doing the old habit. But it's also nice to have others to lean on and keep us accountable. Or to remind us of the progress we've made.
      I'm always happy to hang out here. Your videos are always a ray of sunshine in my gloominess. ✨️🌞😊💛

      Stress truly is the quickest way to fall back into old habits. And you're right: having a friend to gently keep us accountable and cheer us on is the best way to get back on track.
      I'm so glad the feeling's mutual! You always light up my day, Zach!✨

    I like how the description box is called show notes here ❤. I stay away from ebay! 🙈 Only one foundation for all seasons and temperatures doesn’t see like it would work except if you were located on the equator. I try to keep it down to 5 foundations or base and the same for concealers for year round. Its okay to let yourself have more than one of something on hand while still being mindful.

    • @TheStyleStumbler

      Show notes just feels more my speed. "Description box" sounds too down to earth. 😂 I've always had a lot of luck buying secondhand things on ebay - but this is the very first time I ever purchased makeup that way. I don't think I'll be doing it again.
      I agree with you - just one foundation for four seasons doesn't work that well. But now that I have my "shade adjuster", I'm pretty happy with one dewy, one matte, and the cream for travel. Hopefully three's the magic number!
      Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts, Jessa. It's always lovely to hear from you. 💛

    Great video! You're not alone. My skin tone dramatically changes between summer and winter also. Despite wearing SPF50 daily. I go from fair to almost medium. My problem is I'm very cool toned so bronzers don't really work for me well. I have 2 makeup collections as a result. I pack away the summer one for the winter, and it gives me something to look forward to in the summer. 😅

    • @pajamamama5965
      @pajamamama5965 17 дней назад

      @TheStyleStumbler You get it :) I also need brighter colors to go with my darker skin tone as well so I have a whole array of different lipstick shades as well as blushes and even eye make up. I used to think it was frustrating because a blush that would work for me beautifully for a few months all of a sudden wouldn't show up. Especially once I got a backyard pool, and I was out in it a few times a week. Then I accepted the situation and decided that I would have 2 separate makeup collections. Since cream products and liquids go bad much faster, I have mainly powders but that works for me with my oily skin so I'm okay with it.

    Your purchases seemed rather reasonable and overall rather minor for such a long period of time. You should give yourself a pat on the back!
    Foundation is a category where I have become more and more minimalistic in because it takes me ages to go through a bottle. I have no idea what people with 10+ bottles do to ever go through one. Additionally, just because a certain formula worked for others it doesn’t mean it will work for me. In fact, it rarely does. In my years since discovering DW I am yet to find a formula that works as well.

    • @TheStyleStumbler
      @TheStyleStumbler  24 дня назад +1

      It really does take ages to go through a bottle of foundation. That's why I don't want to be buying two shades anymore. In my experience, most formulas take a little over two years to expire. I think it's realistic for me to go through a bottle a year, so having two bottles is fine. But four just doesn't make sense - I can't make it through any of them when I mix them.
      And how true: makeup works so differently on each face. Especially foundation seems to depend heavily on skin type. If I could only pick one, DW is also my go-to.
      Thanks for your input, Mariam! It's lovely to hear from you. 💛

    • @mariam.a.

      @ ok that probably sounds like playing with fire but I have panned foundations (DW in my summer shade and the PML one) which have been older than 3-4y at the time I finished them and they were still pretty much the same quality. 😂🙈

    • @TheStyleStumbler
      @TheStyleStumbler  23 дня назад

      @@mariam.a. I don't think it's playing with fire - I only get rid of a foundation if it starts to irritate my skin and/or the formula changes for the worse. My current DW is currently 3 years old and still going strong - perhaps it's just more long-lasting than other formulas I've tried. Thanks for letting me know this. Now I have hope I can finish my DW before it goes off! 😂

    There is no shame to shop makeup in elsewhere. I’ve got my Koh-Gen-Do aqua foundation just for $59 with shipping and tax fees included at YesStyle website. Right now on YesStyle website it’s just for $42. But if you want to buy from Nordstrom it costs $70 and only one shade available. I found out that makeup companies put prices for each country and region differently. Some luxury makeup I buy from Costco because it’s so much cheaper like Tom Ford eyeshadows or cream de la Mer. I don’t shop in Sephora or Nordstrom regularly anymore. And I shop throughout my credit card reward program where I get mile points and shopping points on each purchase. ❤🙌

      I completely agree! Searching for alternatives, sometimes internationally, and giving up the "luxury shopping" experience can be excellentw ays to stay within a budget. Those are great tips! And I have had great experiences buying many things second hand, from clothing, to appliancees, to musical instruments, to furniture. But from now on, I think I want to make sure I can look up a batch code when buying things like makeup or skincare second hand.
