      Brian Wilson made a come back in 1976-77 briefly before falling back into drugs. This would have been the 3rd of 3 albums. The first was 15 Big Ones which was a terrible album. Mostly cover songs in a very half hearted style. Then they did a synth pop album called Love You. Has a New Wave music vibe and similar to what Daniel Johnston would do in the 80s. I love it! The lyrics are child like and sometimes bad. Adult Child would have been the 3rd album, but it was never finished.

    Been obsessed with this album for the last year and recently found a vinyl copy of this and I didn’t realize the order of the tracks on the first bootleg are totally different than they were ordered on this video. The songs here flow so perfectly into each other (specifically 2-7), as if they were written with that in mind. Props to the person who put the songs in this order. The RUclips video is honestly better than the actual vinyl in my opinion.

      I remember reading an interview with Brian some time in the mid to late 90’s where this album was brought up, and in so many words Brian stated that this was some of his favorite work. He also said that he was pretty crushed when it was voted down by Mike and Al, and that kind of led to a relapse of sorts. Lots of drinking and drugging.

    Late to the party here, first time hearing this album… and wow! Why exactly was this shelved? This is *SO MUCH BETTER* than “M.I.U.”. I mean, like no comparison whatsoever. Maybe this wouldn’t have spawned a slew of top ten hits or sold millions of copies overnight, but it’s not as if MIU was a big seller either, and that’s what we got instead of this brilliance. I can’t believe this has been sitting on a shelf for almost half a century now. This really should get a proper release while Brian is still with us.

    • @Shikta-poobah67
      @Shikta-poobah67 7 месяцев назад +5

      @@billpotter7162 Such short-sightedness on their part. The album that preceded this (“Love You”) was easily the best of their post-Surf’s Up period, and this would have made the perfect follow-up. I don’t know how they couldn’t see that, unless of course it was just jealousy… but they had made this kind of thing (letting Brian ride out his waves of creativity without interference) work so well in the past. Yes, this album is a bit off-kilter and unconventional, but the same was said about Pet Sounds a decade earlier, and look how that turned out. MIU was almost 100% Mike and Al’s album (mostly the former), and it’s arguably one of the worst Beach Boys albums ever made. One would think that after this much time passed, that little oversight would’ve been acknowledged and compensated by a late release of Adult-Child, but we’re still waiting.

Also putting any slur up on a pedestal just gives it more power and thinking someone's race actually matters when taking their opinion in mind seems kinda racist to me. Are you really trying to argue I can't say traditional black songs aren't racist because I'm not black? I highly doubt all black people were saying "let's write these songs because we hate our own race" back then just because they were playing them on banjos. It really speaks on people's own prejudices and lack of knowledge of thier own culture (assuming they're American because if not irdc what you think about our culture) when they just assume these songs are from a place of hate.

However, I don't like the sound quality on a lot of the songs. Many of them have a loud, bass boosted sound with a lot of noise in the background. I am not blaming your mixing skills at all, I just think that there are better sources for files than the ones you used. Also, both "New English Waltz" and "Calendar Girl" have such horrible quality that it really damages the listening experience (in my opinion) and there are no better versions that you can download online.
    Like you said in the description, the goal for this mix was to make two medleys of sorts where all the songs flow together, and 90% of the time it works wonders. I get that because of the medley goal, you had to be a bit creative at times and "force" a transition where it wasn't needed ("Hey Little Tomboy" to "Games Two Can Play" especially). This was my other (very small) issue with the mix, the forced transitions.
    I know these are just nitpicks, but I still decided to make my own mix where I try to "fix" the few issues in your mix. In my mix, all of the tracks are as high quality as they get, and the transitions that weren't necessary have been removed. Also, I made some transitions a bit smoother.
    Here is the mix!
    drive.google.com/drive/folders/1WuCHqPJolqMWifsNj86PurqyOaKkvZas?usp=sharing
    Now this is not "my own" version, I just tried to refine your version a bit. My mix builds completely on your work (which, again, is amazing) so full credit goes to you.
    Sorry for rambling, nitpicking and making this comment so long. I felt like it was necessary to explain a bit of my reasoning behind my mix. If you have the time to listen to it I would be very glad! Maybe you could even give me some notes or pointers what to change/improve? Would be very appreciated!

      Hey, thanks for the feedback on my work! I completely agree with you on the sound quality of some of the tracks because what can you do when you only have bad bootleg recorded audios right? And the transitions might sound forced on some of them but you know, once I thought about making this I said to myself, what the hell, I'll make two LONG sides that are big medleys and I honestly don't think there isn't a better tracklist that lines up better than this. (Although I haven't looked at your revised version yet, gonna listen to it now and I'll add my thoughts on it)
      For SMiLE, I am gonna blow everybody's minds. But I will make a community post about it and update everyone on how it's going. (I have good news and bad news).
      Anyways, welcome to the Beach Boys community, it's really somethin'!
      EDIT: So I checked it out and the tracking looks more realistic to a possible release for that time, my tracklist was how would I release it if I were them y'know. The thing that bugs me is that when you eliminate one transition on a side it defeats the purpose of the concept so I would either somehow find a way to reorganize it if we are going to eliminate stuff like New Eng Waltz and Calendar Girl; or we could junk the concept, keep your tracklist but make them normal fade-out tracks. It would still flow well together because they are all great songs cobbled into one album. So yeah, it's good!
      Also I think the bass boosted stuff wasn't that bad last time I listened to my version. However I will say, I have no idea what happened to my SoundCloud upload. Its compressed and bass boosted to hell so if you're talking about that then yeah it's bad but the FLAC files are fine. I could change the audio file if I pay 10€ to SoundCloud but unfortunately I don't have that kind of money right now. (Don't ask, I live in a country where that amount is worth a lot 😂)

    • @leowilson67
      @leowilson67 2 года назад +1

      Yeah I agree with you, it's not really a concept anymore when you remove just a couple of the transitions, which I though about as well. On the other hand, I still think it works very well even if just some of songs flow together. If you think about it, this is exactly what Smile (sessions) does where there are 3 or 4 songs at a time stitched together as medleys or "movements". I think especially "Lines" - "Everybody Wants To Live" work together extremely well, along with "Games Two Can Play" - "Winds Of Change", while the rest of the songs work great as standalone. This way, Adult Child consists of half regular songs and half medleys, at the end of each side ("Everybody Wants To Live" would probably be a fantastic end to side A...).
      So my opinion is that this tracklisting also works well, but I can absolutely see your point about re-arranging some stuff.
      About the audio quality, I was actually talking about the FLAC files, not the soundcloud believe it or not ;)
      As I said most of it sounds fine, but specifically these songs (Shortenin' Bread, Everybody Wants To Live, On Broadway, Deep Purple, Help Is On The Way and Still I Dream Of It) have a lot of white noise, and have generally lesser audio quality than the other songs. All the songs I listed are "Adult Child" originals since they don't appear on any other album. Because of that you have to get them from rips and bootlegs, with mediocre quality to begin with. The ones I found however are (surprisingly) really clean and high res. So the biggest reason I made "my" mix to begin with was actually the sound quality, the rest of your mix was already near perfect.
      Anyways Adult Child aside, I am beyond hyped for your Smile mix! And don't work if you feel burnt out, a project this huge is not something you would want to rush and the wait will surely be worth it in the end no matter the time it takes!

Please can you consider mixing it so it isn't a medley too as listening to the singular tracks can be jarring with how they suddenly start and end. Again I know I’m late to the party with this, but after having recently ‘discovered’ this album a couple of months ago I was finally able to obtain a bootleg vinyl copy, and much to my dismay I noticed that three of the songs included here in this upload are curiously missing from the record I’m now holding in my hand. The missing songs are “New English Waltz Pt. 1”, “Calendar Girl”, and “Our Team”.
    I do realize that it’s merely a bootleg, nothing official, and as is often the case with bootlegs there are several different sources, and given that fact there are often discrepancies. However according to everything I’ve researched online regarding Adult/Child, the track listing on my record is the most common one.
    I suppose my question for the uploader is “What’s the story with those three extra songs?”
