apparently Robin Guthrie gave Brendan and Lisa from Dead Can Dance a specific guitar used on Garlands, which they (DCD) then used on their first self titled album - which along with Garlands are probably in tandem my favourite gothic records ever. i feel like the sentiment expressed is also massively applicable to DCD. I absolutely adore the brooding, mysterious wall of sound of these records - incredibly evocative and atmospheric. i do wish in both cases even if they changed styles, they made more work in this phase..! I'm not a musician only a music enthusiast, and unfortunately don't know the name of the piece of gear offhand or any other technical elements. But when i saw that written somewhere, it was like a puzzle piece falling into place. Sorry if there's silence on my part in event of a potential reply, because i have kinda tuned out of notifications for the short term for various reasons, i just wanted to throw in the comparison to DCD's debut and the connection! Wishing you both the best of health!
@@mothratemporalradio517 Interesting discussion. I (from 63) see Garlands as the most powerfull album, but the song "Threshold" from Dead Can Dance is perhaps my al time favourite song.
I was transfixed by this as I was in the very early eighties when I heard the Garlands L.P whilst experimenting with a trip. Not done it since but, your cover took me back! Gonna get another bass & learn this. Thanks! p.s, Cocteau twins been my fave band ever since! 😎
Was typing “Cocteau twins bass cover” with this song in mind but not expecting any results. This upload was the first to pop up, ironically. Probably my favorite bass riff ever created by CT. 3:00 simple but such a groove. You nailed it !!
Congratulations ! excellent bass my dear, perfect, one of the greatest bands I know, from start to finish. If possible send the Peppermint Pig 12", it will be fantastic. Congratulations!
Brillaint, your version is the best bass cover video on RUclips of this song. It's a great riff and my favourite CT song. Any chance you could have a go at Debbie Goodge's (MBV) bass on "Only Shallow" which also has quick bass chords. Cheers M
do you think you could post a bass tab or any way of distinguishing the different picking patterns? really having trouble even when slowing down the video.
I am stuck with the first 2 albums and the lullabies ep. After these, their sound took a direction I don't personally like, but Irespect it because it is the material that made Frazer a legend and Guthrie an ambient dream pop guitar god.
dude this is insane, just like the track! play the hollow men! i've been trying to figure it out for a year on and off, im trying to find out what he's actually playing at some parts
Amazing cover. Great clean playing and in my opinion the best bass cover of this song that currently exists on youtube.
Thanks so much.
@@ioannist.5568 You're very welcome, keep up the great work. And if you take requests, I would love to see a cover of "Big Uncle Ugliness" by Lowlife.
@@stechuskaktus2477 I covered yesterday the song a year past july. I will check this one too.
Agreed
Brilliant. I remember Garlands being brand new and it changed everything.
What a massive bass tone! Great cover!
Magistral ejecución...!
Excelente cover
@@flakwolfderwolf1127 thanks!

Superb bass in this classic song! And played to perfection...
Thanks Niels!

Thanks for your kind words!
Badass thank you for sharing this cover.
Thanks. I hope it helps
The only band that I honestly think never made a bad song.
I can speak omly for their first three official releases which I like the most
@@ioannist.5568 I agree. Think they got a tad too "lush" over time. I prefer this more minimalist and post-punk sound.
@@ioannist.5568 I think their best song is the John Peel version of "Blind Dumb Deaf".
@@lefthook9707 indeed the bass and the saturated drum sound are great and raw on this
Great stuff. I prefer CT's early work, like this, so much more than after Head Over Heels.
I mentioned that too and I am glad there are people who have the same opinion.

Τι ωραία φάση, τι ωραίο τραγούδι. Μόλις μπήκε στη λίστα μου. Φαίνεται αρκετά μπελαλίδικο. Ειδικά στο δεξί χέρι, στην πένα

Incredible cover! Mind telling me what pedals you used?
Thanks. I have already said in other videos that my main pedals are a Tech 21 bass driver di v2 and the Providence Anadime bass chorus

would you ever put like a tutorial of the song.
If you change the speed of the video I think it would help
Does playing this song kill your left hand too or do I just have arthritis?
I wouldn't say that because the pattern as you can see is mostly to repeat octaves
